1942 MB Slat Grille Sun City, Tx $20,000

• CATEGORIES: MB • TAGS: , , .

Looks nice. It is a no glove box MB.

“¼ ton 4 WD General Purpose Truck by Willys
LATER KNOWN AS A “JEEP”

Original, numbers matching 4 cylinder 60hp, 134ci L-head (Go-Devil) engine. Early SLAT GRILLS had no glove box, they had a round muffler, oil bath air cleaner and filter, rubber hood bumpers, solid wheels, three bolts spare tire carrier, no blackout driving lamps, no gas can holder, makers name was embossed on the rear panel and a slat grill on the Willys. As noted by the S/N the Jeep is an all original slat grill. The air filter is original to the jeep and is known as an oil bath air cleaner. The frame and body parts are all original (I have pictures available upon request).

The wheels are not “Combat Wheels”, but civilian wheels. Combat wheels were “Not of Issue” on prototype Jeeps. The reason being Willys also made cars prior to “¼ ton utility trucks” standards set by the US Government. To meet the demands of the government contract, they had to bid the entire Jeep under $400.00 a unit and in order to stay under budget; they sold themselves Willys automobile wheels in the very early production (VEP JEEP) versions.

Jeeps were notorious for not stopping very well, so I used 1954 Ford brake drums and pads to make them safer on the street and in parades.

I also converted the original voltage regulator/electrical system to a modern day 12 volt electronic ignition system for added dependability. The early Slat grill had no spare tire holder or exterior gas can.

Only 200 slat grills are estimated to have survived through 2006, according to Army Motors, the official magazine of the Military Vehicle Preservation Assoc.

The last Willys Slat Grill was S/N 125807, this is S/N 124833 and was delivered to the US Army on March 5, 1942. Full restoration was completed 2009 and she has appeared at hanger dances, parades, Veteran’s Day events, air shows, USO shows. It is a show vehicle, not a ramble through the brambles and the bushes jeep. It is “period correct” complete with 48 star flag, all canvas top, shovel and axe attached to side, and a copy of a M1 automatic carbine for the dash. I’d challenge any potential buyer to find another Jeep in such good shape, with all the parts present and as nice as this one. If it were perfect, it would sell in the neighborhood of $40,000 just like the Barrett-Jackson Jeep did last month.

1945 VEC CJ-2A Mukwonago, Wi **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: , .

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1500.

Here’s a VEC #11500 for sale over at the CJ2A Page (Thanks Bill).

This Jeep has no title.  The transmission was switched to a later floor shift version.  The transfer case may, or may not be original, the early style 4-rib park brake drum is present.
The engine is not the original chain engine, but it is a low serial number CJ-2A 33843, it looks like an early 1946 engine in it.

UPDATE: Mike notes in the comments that the pintle hitch was an option for the CJ-2As and bolts right up.  So, this could be a CJ-2A frame with a pintle.

The serial number suggests this is a little late to be a VEC CJ-2A.

Production number is 10928, this willys will be worth more once restored because of the low number. Comes with some new steering parts that need to be installed. Michigan title.”

UPDATE:  Still available

(07/10/2010) “I have a Civilian Jeep Willys that was originally going to be a V8 conversion. My Uncle lost interest and purchased another that already had a V6 installed. I have acquired the original project but don’t have the time nor money to do all the projects that I already have going, let alone a Jeep. It will come with two frames, one has work started for the V8 conversion (1946), the other (1947) has all the stock(?) parts installed (engine, trans and differentials.) The body is currently off the Jeep. The body is in pretty good shape for its age. Work has been done on the floors and PORed to repair/replace rust. This Jeep will take some work to put back together, but most, if not everything, is there. The age-old saying goes, it ran when parked, but needed a starter. I imagine by now it will probably also need carburetor work (new seals and gaskets) as it has been a very long time since it has ran.

If you are interested, give me a call or text at 209.918.1883 or e e-mail bugntjw@comcast.net; I will respond back as quick as possible.”

1946 VEC CJ-2A Durango, Co $4000

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: , .

This has got a few issues.

“Selling my Willys!!! Don’t really want to, but it looks like I might be going to Afghanistan and would rather someone use it than have it sit in storage.

’46 VEC CJ2A #17477. Jeep runs and drives great but should still be considered a project. Needs a lot of little things but I drove it all summer without any issues. I stripped all of the bondo off of this Jeep that previous owners put on it so you can see what needs to be done. I have nothing to hide with this CJ and I hope someone gets as much fun out of it as I did. This thing’s been all over the San Juans and Moab and has been a great travel companion. This would be an excellent starting point for someone new to the old Jeeps as I located most of the hard-to-find parts and got the mechanical gremlins out already (knock on wood). If you buy it, I would also be willing to spend a day going through it with you and showing you everything that it needs.

Will consider partial trades for cool overland gear (ARB awning, engel fridge, RTT, GOOD lights, winches, etc). I have the title in hand and would be more than happy to put it in indoor storage for you until you can pick it up (storage is about $100/mo around here)….. Please no low-ball offers … give me a call at 9-0-7-3-4-7-2-3-6-6”

I have everything for it. I personally just ran out of time. It is at the point where my mom wants it out of our garage. The frame motor trans are in great shape. The fenders are good and the windshield has good glass. It is #14901. Great project. I am asking 900 cash. I would consider partial trades but need at least 600 cash with the trade.”

1945 VEC CJ-2A Ishpeming, Mi $450

• CATEGORIES: CJ-2A • TAGS: .

UPDATE:  Price dropped to $450

(05/21/2009) It appears this body sports an early CJ-2A body with a VIN number of 11891 (though the seller believes it to be a 1947 body).  At the very least, it’s got the driver side cutouts to validate the VIN number.  It’s hard to tell what else is original.

“This jeep was a project vehicle for our prop building studio. It was intended to be used in parades, promotional pictures, and promotional videos as a Cobra runabout. We got this far, before we just didn’t have the spare cash or time to pour into it any longer.  Serial Number appears to be 11891. The plate is still in place on the dash, but is pretty weathered, so the last digit may be off. You can judge for yourself, as I have added a pic of the Serial # plate…..”
