Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “For Sale is my 1953 Willys Pickup with many custom features.Has a fully custom powdercoated fully boxed chassis with Mustang 2 frontend and a Chris Alston 4 bar setup in the rear with a Ford 9″.Is complete with 4 wheel disc brakes and rolling on 20″ Billet Specialties rear and 18″fronts.Cab is chopped 3″ with suicide doors and shaved handles with all electrics including remotes for the doors and also the tilt bed.Bed is custom and is able to be raised with 2 linear actuators,tailgate is also electric.Engine is a Chevy 350 with a 6:71 Mooneyham teflon sealed Blower running 9% underdriven.Has all the goodies and was built specifically for the street and is a very driveable reliable street driven truck. “It’s time sell this beauty and pass it on to the next owner. I’ve had this for three years and need to part with it. Getting married and need some cash for the honeymoon. (Yeah – roll your eyes, it’s OK) This jeep turn heads and receives compliments all the time. I’ve had a lot of work done to it over the years. New tires with 300 miles on them. New starter, alternator, carburator, radiator (aluminum), stainless steel firewall (Very nice) and tons of little extras to make it sharp. Engine: 65-67 Buick Special V6 225. Common after market jeep engine. (So I’m told) Rebuilt in December 2008 with 145 miles on the rebuild. (It’s hard to drive a jeep in the rain in Oregon) The company that rebuilt the engine went out of business in January 2009 (Auto Link – Gresham, OR). It has two areas where it drips oil. One – Head gasket needs to be replaced. Two – plug behind engine….”
It looks good, but the image compression makes the body look rough.

It’s a beauty. I was a little surprised to see the engine area isn’t as polished as the rest of the jeep.

This is one of the better hard top restorations that I’ve seen. Most people dump them.
“Have a 1948 Willys CJ 2-A in absolutely perfect condition Frame off restoration with a 198 Buick V-6 with warn overdrive that runs perfectly. All 12 volt with all new gauges that all work. All hat channels perfect as the rest of the tub. Really nice Sears aluminum top, insulated on the inside. Goes down the road like a dream and I drive it daily. Top speed 60 MPH with the overdrive. UPDATE 3: The eWillys Israel bureau is hot on the trail of the ‘Tender’. Another set of pics was accompanied by the following update.
Here’s what he Googled in Hebrew: “A man named Efraim Eilin had a vision of an Israeli car industry. In 1950 he made partnership with Kaizer Enterprises and in 1951 he opened the Kaizer-Eilin assembly plant. The plant[S] made more then 100,000 cars [Kaiser Frazer, Dofin Renolt, kontesa , Lark Studibaker…] and at some point the plant export was 28% of all the Israeli exports! I couldn’t find info on the Willys except that they made the panel, the wagon and the pick-up [we say: ‘Tender’]. All the body parts were made in Israel in another plant in Israel; so, I guess that the trucks used the low part of the panel/wagon + special design for the back as an original Kaiser-Eilin. The Willys had 2 engines: 2199 cc 4 cylinder and 3770 cc 6 c‘”

As I note in the comments to this post, a couple days ago I did a number of searches (and found some interesting truck sites that I will include in upcoming posts), but I found no references to the ‘Tender’ or ‘high back’ trucks. If anyone knows anything about them, please let me know.
Here’s a nicely restored CJ-2A.
“This is a 1947 Willys Jeep CJ2A; I purchased this jeep from an individual in 2003 and spent until 2006 restoring it; I stripped it down to the bare frame and started all over from the beginning; it has the original frame, but has been beefed up in the spots that were rusted; all new springs, shocks, brakes, brake cylinders, brake lines, master cylinder, rebuilt entire steering system, steering is nice and tight; original rims with new tires and a spare; front and rear axle are original, but completely rebuilt; engine has been completely overhauled and runs perfect; new exhaust system; ….”

This is a nice, solid looking CJ-3B.
“This is a 1958 Jeep Willys High Hood, it’s my grandpa’s jeep, and it is in very good condition. Starts right up, and the engine runs good. Tires are in great condition, tred is all there. The interior isnt very old, maybe 6 years or so. This jeep has been kept in storage the whole time he’s had it. Unless you count the occasional 4 mile trip to another garage. Please call my grandpa for questions, he will know more about it.”

“Heres my 1948 CJ-2A for sale that I acquired in July of 1992. Now its 62 years old Its a 4 cyl L head as it should be with original 3spd, and 4wd.Kept indoors before I had it and has been garaged the whole time I’ve owned it. Runs and drives. Well – tight, not loose and rattly. Here’s a list of facts and features: Jeep has a total of 8951 miles as of today. Originall speedometer. I aquired with 8602 miles. I never realized I only put 350 miles on in the last 17 years!!!!!!!….”

It looks in pretty good shape.
“1961 Willys Jeep FC-150 Pickup. Original 78 horsepower four cylinder engine, three speed manual transmission, 5.13 geared Dana 44 axles front and rear. High and low range four-wheel-drive. Brand new reproduction Firestone 7.00-15 military lug tires on factory 15” steel wheels. This is a rust-free 32,000 original mile California desert truck that has less than 500 miles on a body-off-frame restoration. These trucks were built on the CJ-5 platform and featured a cab-forward body and a small pickup bed. Only 1,298 1961 FC-150’s were ever built and there are only a handful left in this condition. Beautiful Mountain Green Poly and Palm Beach Ivory two-tone with beige interior. Very reliable and can be driven anywhere. Top speed of about 55 MPH but will pull a house down the road. “Tool Time” Tim Taylor just paid $40,000 for one of these trucks in similar condition at the recent Arizona auctions, this truck can be bought for only $20,950.”

The price for the jeep looks good. This might be a good price. The trailer is also $2800, which seems a bit high to me.

(08/10/09) The jeep’s hard to see in this pic, but at first glance looks good.
“1948 Willys Jeep with a Chevy 283 V-8 with a Warn overdrive. Everything is 12 Volt and has a heater and comes with two original backseats. Original transmission, axles, and differentials. Extras include a bikini top, front push guard, spare gas tank and tire and the Jerry gas cans. Tires are in great shape and the body and tub has no rust. I really do not want to sell it, but I just do not use it anymore.”

(09/20/09) This has got a wide rimmed, slanted dashboard fiberglass body. It also has the rear wheel well extended slightly.
