Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “4 cyl. 3speed overdrive, runs good, old parade car”
I gotta say I like this jeep. There’s enough old school stuff to make me smile. Check out the battery, the roll cage, the art on the back, the dashboard, the gauges, the gas pedal … I could go on.
The owner of this jeep is 16 year old Trevor, who inherited it from his father. Trevor’s going to make some updates to this jeep, such as adding power steering. He asked for some advice regarding steering so naturally I asked for pictures.
Trevor wrote, “thanks so much for your time and advice! it really means a lot to me cause i wanna get this thing out on the trails like my dad did back in day.”

“This is a right hand drive mail jeep. It has a 1985 Chevrolet 4.3 liter v-6 engine that was completely rebuilt in September 2003 and only has 33,300 miles on it. It also has a heavy duty turbo 400 automatic transmission. It has been well maintained and is in good running order. Has brand new front brakes, the oil was just changed, and it has good tires. Its load capacity is 58.2 cubic feet. Asking $ 1800 O.B.O”

This jeep is part of a package that includes a travel trailer and jet skis. I haven’t seen too many CJ-3B drag jeeps.
“53 willy drag jeep original hard body 350 small block 355 cubic inch 327 corvette heads 205 valves, solid steal competion craink, 310 solid competition cam, Roller rockers 12 to 1 compression MSD ignition ,mollory ignition coil, aluminum 4 core radiator ,electric fan .400 turbo trans. manual velve body, trans brake, hurst shifter, 9 inch ford rear end, 31 spline full spool axel ,620 gears, 500 + horse power,$10,000 invested. very very dependable … .”

This might be a good deal. A new paint job would do this wonders.
“Hard to find Willys CJ3B High Hood! Original motor. Runs okay, needs some work. Perfect project Jeep or ranch rig.”
The builder put a good collection of parts together for this flattie.
“1966 custom Willys jeep, with 1946 body./body off restored / 350 chevy v8 motor with avenger holly carb/ munci 465 trans/ dana300 transfer case/ dana 44 rear end/ dana 30 with disc brakes front end/ 33″ like new thornbird tires/ power steering/ only thing it needs is for the brakes to be pressure bled. $5600 call Mike at 440-225-2421”

The seller lists this as a ’49. It’s not, but with the 5 gauges, it is an earlier (pre Nov 1956 CJ-3B). Motor seized.
“Motor rebuilt 5 years ago, have all the original paperwork. Jeep has been sitting for 4 years; motor locked up. Body clean, no rust new fuel tank, foam filled tires.
Asking $2000 or OBO or will discuss trade”

“One 1945 Willys Jeep Cj-2A up for sale. I bought this jeep for my father, but his location no longer allows for this type of vehicle. The jeep is in need of restoration, but is nearly ready to drive. The jeep has a brand new set of tires. The stickers haven’t even worn off of them. They have approximately 30 yards of mileage on them. There is also a new starter installed. The engine turns over, and spark is good. It is not running due to a probable timing issue. It backfires, but doesn’t start yet. This jeep is in need of a new wiring harness, along with various and sundry repairs. The frame is good, the drive system appears to be in running order, although with some use it will probably need some seals and gaskets to be replaced. The tub has quite a bit of rust, as is normal with a 1940’s jeep. The tailgate and windshield frame fold (no glass in the windshield though), and the attached towbar is usable….”
It appears in pretty good shape.

New body, new tires, new seats, new breaks, new custom built radiator, new gages, new windsheild and liner, new springs and shocks, new wireing, rebuilt transfer case and axels, over 12,000 in parts to rebuild. comes with 30 caliber machine gun and stand. The paint job on this is interesting. The bumper is pretty wild; I guess the jeep was used for pushing?

This jeep looks fantastic, but I am surprised someone would do all this work and not replace the 41 rear end with a Dana 44. Note that this is the original tub, but the tailgate has been carefully removed.
“1949 Willys CJ-2A Jeep which has been mildly customized and modified for off-road and everyday usage around town. This Jeep has been professionally done with attention to detail and function, incorporating many modern upgrades yet still keeping the period CJ-2A look. Although this Jeep has the look and capabilities for serious off-roading it has never been driven on anything but hard surfaced highways. It has been re-powered with a Chevrolet 283 small block backed by Muncie 4-speed transmission and goes like a bat-out-of-hell, but has plenty of low-end torque for any situation.”
UPDATE: This jeep is back on ebay. Now also on Craigslist for $6500.
Here’s a 1947 CJ-2A with lots of pics on eBay. I keep thinking I’ve seen this one, but I couldn’t find it in a search of past posts. Maybe it was bought and is being resold?
“Seats are Bestop Trailmax. Low back height fit the small style of the Jeep. Great Hot Rod look. I had tried tall back seats with five point harnesses but they were too restricting and did not look proportional. Lap belts are just the five point harnesses. I just buckle them around the waist and just let the shoulder belts lay there….”

Here’s a parts jeep. With the Dana 30 front and AMC 20 rear. The paint job is unusual. The back of this body appears solid (no tailgate). I’m wondering if that’s a DJ body.
“1947 Flat Fender Willy’s Jeep CJ 2A with roll cage. No transmission/transfercase. Mounts for small-block Ford (289 / 302). Original axles plus Dana 30 front and AMC 20 rear. Need the space more than I need the Jeep. $400 / obo.”

If the paddle tires are in good shape, this could be a good deal.

“1948 willys pickup Flat front Homemade bed(solid and good shape) All original 6 volt system. Good dash, all gauges intact. interior all there, bucket seats. Frame pretty good. Have a finished, primered front clip to go with it. Hood, fenders, grille professionally blasted, repaired and primered. Foot starter, had engine running Springs really good, look new.Been on a farm last 30 years. Looking at buying a wagon and need to sell $1500.00 with front clip. Good one for restore 814-590-7732 Also have 43 MB(with aluminim hard top) for sale and possibly sell 49 CJ 2-A with half cab. Solid body with great half cab. Good heater. I’m not a fan of the paint job, but everything else looks in pretty solid shape.

This is a great looking CJ-5. I suspect there’s a few additional upgrades on this jeep.
