The May 1951 issue of Motor Trend captured the 3rd Annual DeAnza Trail Jeep Cavalcade. The author, Ernest Reshovsky, titled the article “Jeep Gymkhana”, possibly attempting to reference timed automobile or equestrian contents designed to test driving skill, though to my knowledge the Cavalcade was not a timed event.

Always enjoy the stories over the years on the Cavalade! The pic of the “Checker Board” Airforce Willy’s with 5 guys is still owned by family members (daughters) and lightly wheeled from time to time. Checker Board is also the family given name of that Willys MB. My spouse (one of the family members) last drove the Checker Board up Bea’s Canyon out of Hemet, California in 2011 with our son. It was repainted from the original orange and white in the pic to black and white checkers around the late 1990’s to early 2000’s.
Sorry if I’m rambling, I have quite a fondness for that vehicle!
