Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Nice to see a Jeep with a later Jeep (okay, AMC) V-8 instead of a Chevy.
Given the 304 V8 and the 4 inches between front fenders and front of tub, that’s not a ‘64 (has to be ‘72-‘75).

You’re correct. I should have looked more closely to the photos.
Look at the increased length (3″ IIRC) between the front wheel and the firewall, that was done by AMC to accommodate their V-8s.
Also, the post ’68 side marker lights, so it is not a ’64.
I think AMC-era 6s are fairly rare. I don’t recall seeing any.
Chris, you are absolutely right. I sure spaced this one! I have updated the post.
JohnB – I think you’re right that they’re rare. Biggest customer was probably the feds for Forest Service and Border. I never saw any in the military but did see CJ5s of 72 – 75 in civilian colors like off-the=shelf purchase and Myers hart tops. Army MPs used them stateside with a blue cherry on top.
Interesting side not. Starting ’72 you could get a choice of 5 engines in the CJ: 232-6, 258-6,304-V8,
and 360 or 401 V8s by special order.
What’s interesting on this sample is the solid back instead of a tail gate. Perhaps changed?
I never thought about it before, but given there were Renegade CJ-5s and CJ-7s, maybe there was at least a few CJ-6 Renegades? (maybe special order?) I expect they would have a back that looked like this one. My google searches did not produce any examples.
Dave – Jeep did sell the CJs without tailgates yet not a Renegade. Don’t know if they were special order or not. they were sporty but not as expensive. Roy Clark of country music fame had a 72 CJ with a 6-cyl and a solid back with a spare tire mounted in the middle. Used it to put his fishing boat in the water when he taught fishing in Oklahoma. Almost bought the Jeep from the estate.
I had a 1975 CJ-6 for many years, with both the 304 V8 and the fixed non-tailgate.
Is this CJ6 still for sale? I’m interested, let me know
