Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Peter noted that it looks like the driver side front spring is bent near the front shackle.
Ted shared this jeep. It has a few updates, including a spray liner on the interior and underside.
“Offered here is a 1946 Civilian Willys Jeep. This driver comes out of an estate and collection of fine automobiles. The in-house mechanic states that the engine and transmission have been rebuilt and the brakes are in good working order. Newer paint was applied and the vehicle shows well. The floors and undercarriage plus the inside of the fenders have been undercoated. A roll bar has been installed. The windshield glass on the driver’s side has a crack and will need replacement. Some paint bubbling was noticed also on the windshield frame. This is a no-nonsense little cruiser. Perfect for running around town, as a grocery-getter, a vehicle for advertising, parades or simply to show and enjoy. The vehicle is currently on display at the Murphy Automobile Museum in Oxnard, California.”
This has an early windshield. It also has a floor shift, though the pics don’t show if it was once a column shift or not.
“This is a very very early civilian jeep, perhaps the very first few that rolled off after the war as it still has the MB body. Originally came with the rare column shift but later converted to stick on floor. All original drive train. Starts right up but needs restoration. Body is very solid with some bondo. Original Arizona vehicle last licensed in 1970. A great project that can be worth getting into. Serious enthusiasts only please.”

It looks clean, though not restored quite to original.
“I’m selling my beautiful 1948 CJ2A. Restored to original condition. I drive it around town, but want to clear the room for another restoration. The engine, transmission, body and suspension all original. I have the bows for the top but never installed it. It has been converted to 12 volt. Runs great!”
This might have a Porter & Reed Half Cab. It’s got a bed extender as well. It’s listed as a 1942, but clearly is a CJ-2A.

“Mid-year 1947, CJ2A for sale, mostly original components, in good condition, runs and drives well, 4WD works, stays in all gears, not fully restored but well maintained and cleaned up for sale. This Willys jeep has a lot of powder coated piece parts, to include all five wheels, bumpers/cross members, front grille, tailgate, windshield frame, driver and passenger seat frames, passenger side tool box, headlight cans and headlight rings, mirrors, windshield latches, footman loops, gas pedal, brake and clutch pedals, and various covers and plates. I’m still finishing up a few detail items such as welting and felt on the radiator shroud; have new air cleaner on order. Asking $14,500 but will consider any reasonable offer (cash offers only – am NOT interested in trades). Additional pictures are available upon request. The vehicle is legally registered and licensed in Alabama. Does not have title but Alabama (and many other states) does not require a title to register/license a vehicle this old.”
Looks nice. Sounds like the seller is flipping it after buying it at an estate sale.

Ted shared this eBay auction. It’s a beautiful jeep. It is missing the bow holders on the driver’s side and the spare tire mounted on the passenger side, but those are minor quibbles.

“This Willys is a Cj2a that has been completely restored from ground up.With the motor being all standard it has not been run much. I Ordered a new steel body mostly for the rust issues under the tool box and hat channel.By the time I replaced the channel and floor I was getting up in labor and cost.
I completely disassembled it and started with the frame and worked my way up. The list that follows of new parts installed to make it drive on the highway and be safe to operate. I upgraded the brakes, from 9″ to 11″” self adjusting; And new dual master cylinder. Converted it to a single wire Alternator to get the 12v needed for modern lights and all new cloth wiring.Rebuilt the steering box with new sector shaft, and the jeep does not wander going down the road. All steering is tight.I replaced most all the bolts.The list of parts is long and I did not cut corners on the restore.

“This Jeep CJ-3A is a restored example that was featured on BaT in January of 2014. Power is supplied by a L-134 “Go Devil” four-cylinder and 3-speed manual transmission. The seller states that the previous owner purchased the jeep from the second owner in 2003, and restoration work was completed in 2004. It has been co-owned by the seller and a business partner since 2014. Just under 21k miles have been driven since the completion of restoration work, around 500 miles of which were driven during the seller’s ownership. Details of the restoration include replacement of the body tub, sandblasting and refinishing the frame, a new top and interior, and detailing of the mechanical components.”

(10/15/2017) Almost original condition with a few minor changes.
“1948 JEEP CJ2A, completely original condition, purchased from original family, total nuts and bolts mechanical restoration was done, have all receipts ! New brakes and wheel cylinders, new seals, bearings and more, new u joints and serviced and resealed transfer case, new brake hoses and lines where needed, all electric works, lights and rear lights plus signals work perfectly, comes with extra set of ndt tires. Antique license registered, never pay again! Love the Patina, covering original gray paint is a very faded maroon shade . Wet sanding w 1500 grit will remove it. Ready for a new project, garaged since purchased, carb rebuilt, new fuel pump and all oil leaks fixed, mild drips from rear of motor. lots of new and nos parts included.”

“eatiful 1948 Jeep CJ2A Willys
We believe we are the 4th owner only in it’s life. The mileage is approximately 77,800 original miles with the original engine. Does it have character yes but runs and drives great. Top end is about 50 mph and will run all day.
It has been converted to 12v and this winter we did the following
– Brake Pads, Rotors, Calipers, Hoses, & Steel Lines
– Spark Plugs & Wires
– Ingnition & Coil
– Distributor Cap & Rotor
– Lots of Gaskets and Seals
– Transfer Case Oil Pan
– Choke and Throttle
– Steering Stabilizer
– New Guages (except for odometer)
We have the original rims for the smaller tires if you want them. Comes with a bikini top and a soft top. The best news is those areas where it normally has rust has NONE. Nothing in the wheel wells and not even any in the tool box. The original paint has been painted over as it was originally the deep harvest red. The rest has all the character that makes this Willys so popular. “

“This is a great running 1946 Jeep Willys. Body is in great shape with very minimal rustish spots. Comes with the soft top in the pictures. Converted to 12v, new starter, new break master cylinder and I am currently changing out the fuel tank to finish with the must does to sell it at this price. Please keep in mind that this is a 46 so it is going to take some tinkering with from time to time. Looking for someone that is wanting a fun collectors item. Completely rebuilt in 2010, including new body (tub costs over $2000 alone without hood, front fenders, grill, windshield frame, etc.), rebuilt engine (new pistons, rings, water pump, oil pump, etc.), transmission, transfer case and axles – like getting a “new” 1946 Jeep for much less than it would cost you to buy the parts and pay the labor to build it – and, to top it off, it is a coveted VEC model, too! Nice enough that you could run it in a parade or take it to a show, but not so nice that you’d be afraid of using it!
