Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1942 Ford GPW restomod project for sale. All power train and drive train has been rebuilt or replaced or upgraded. Runs and drives and stops. Rancho springs, conferr shackles, body lift, 31″ tires. Saginaw steering and upgraded front and rear crossmembers. Warn premium hubs. Original grille, hood, and dash. Original data plates with matching frame serial number. Fiberglass tub and fenders. New windshield and frame. New bestop tigertop. Fuel cell. Needs some minor electrical and body work and making sure everything is torqued. Engine is a rebuilt MB engine. New T90 trans. Rebuilt transfer case and axles. 11″ drum brakes. 12v conversion. New Optima red top. Reman carb, painless wiring harness. I’m not in a hurry to sell, i just don’t have time to work on it now and could use the space. I have too many projects and need to consolidate. (04/29/2014) This has an old school feel. This may be a MB or GPW body/chassis. Note the hubs on the rear. What’s really interesting is the reshaped entrances for drive and passenger. It’s well done and gives the jeep a slightly different look.
“Bought this Willys to restore but have decided it is too much of a project for me. It is either a 2A or 3A (year and model unknown since no identification on body or frame and no title). It has a modified body, roll cage, frame and axles. Has a raised hood with one rust spot and lots of bondo (probably part of conversion to V8) and modified steering.
I installed used tires since the pictures were taken so I can roll it around. It can be used for parts or rebuilt. Looks like it had a Chevy v8 in it at one time. It has surface rust but metal seems solid (several holes have been cut into the floor and inner front fender wells for unknown reasons).
You may notice the rear axle is really a front axle installed in reverse (reason unknown) and pictures also show a Dana 18 transfer case (it has a hole in the side so case is not useable).
It appears to have re-arched springs to give it a 2-3 inch lift.
Asking $450 with wheels and tires (tires have minimum tread) or $350 without wheels and tires.Jeep is located in Helendale. I can deliver within local area (for a price) if necessary. No title, bill of sale only.

“I have a body that came off a Ford WW2 Jeep. Someone cut the rear panel for a tailgate. It has minor rusts issues on the floor, but it’s actually pretty solid for being 70+ years old. The sump is missing and a homemade glovebox was added over the original one.
Based on my research, this is actually a Ford “Script” tub , despite the missing Ford script rear panel.

The numbers match and body sequence is correct. The Jeep was manufactured in Ford’s Louisville plant in May 1945 and believed to have been used at Cory Navel Base in Pensacola and later sold to the West Virginia Highway Dept.”

The passenger entrance has been lengthened. I wonder if the driver’s side has been too. The body has tool indents on the passenger side as well, but is not a M-38, so it is likely a replacement body.

“I am selling my one of kind 1942 Ford GPW with a 1951 M100 Trailer. Sold as a package deal only. I did a complete frame off restoration of this jeep and trailer in 2004. The paint is a little faded, but pretty much everything is good to go. The engine and transmission where missing when I got the jeep, so I installed a 1985 4.3 liter Chevy V6 with a 4 barrel carburetor and a later model Military M38 T-90 transmission. This Jeep has lots of power and is a blast to drive! The transmission does pop out of second gear sometimes. I just put $1200.00 worth of new tries and wheels on the jeep last August. I kept the jeep as close to original as possible, except for the engine and transmission. It was titled as a 1948 Willys Jeep when I bought it, so that is the way it is still titled. I am asking $9500.00 cash for it and the trailer. Email this post for more info.”
