For the price, this could be worth a look. Though listed as a 1952 M-38A1, the body and front clip look like they are from a CJ-5 (except for the fact that there is no “JEEP” stamped into the cowl.

While I doubt this served during the Korean War (which ended in mid-1953 .. see G503 discussion), this is the USMC version (Note the rings at the ends of the rear bumper) .

Mike spotted this classic Fresno-modded jeep. The Muller top, the side doors, the upgraded engine, and more are common among jeeps with Fresno mods.

“My Dad has a 1952 Willy’s keep he needs to sell. This is the M38A1 this is the 1st year of the CJ5 / Military Edition. He has everything there. The motor is not in the vehicle. It was pulled to rebuild but he wound up buying another complete used engine. He has just gotten older and no time to fix it back up. It includes the original mechanical winch as well. He may be open to trades.”
Tom shared this M-38A1 project. It looks like there is value here.

“I have up for sale or trade my 1953 US Army M38A1 Willy’s Jeep. The price is $4,000 OBO but that doesn’t mean that there’s a lot of wiggle room on my price. This Jeep has a clear title but hasn’t been registered. As far as trades go I’m mainly interested in anything military style firearms or firearms related in general but feel free to offer what you got. The Jeep isn’t currently running but it does turn over, clutch and transmission seem to work as they should. This Jeep is mostly original with good tires wheels, body pan, and really won’t take a lot of money or time to get it up and running. This is a project that I simply don’t have the time for that’s why she’s looking for a new home. Please, NO LOW BALLERS!! If the ad is still up then it’s still available. May be willing to meet you halfway depending on the distance for the right deal. Thanks for looking and if you have any questions please feel free to ask”

“1953 Willy’s M38A1 Military Jeep, Serial Number 63413, 1/4 ton, 4×4, showing 7712 miles, runs and drives as it should, all original except for after market lights to legally travel on the highways, a few switches on the dash and comes with a nice top and doors. Frame, and floor panels are rust free, original front and rear seats are in excellent condition. Also comes with clean Pa title, decals, and Military Service Manuals. “This is a 1953 Willys military jeep. It is not perfect but has been saved and redone in many areas. Mechanically good it runs and drives. The carburetor has been rebuilt and the jeep has new batteries. The 24 volt military electrical system in intact and most work. An electric fuel pump has been installed. Sure it is old and not a high speed truck. But rolling history in relativly good condition.”
Not a bad price given the amount of work that’s been done. Still, it’s only a 2WD vehicle. It does have a good looking Kelly hardtop.

“Selling my late husbands project car. Numerous up grades were started but never completed. The jeep also comes with several parts that were purchased or came with the jeep. New tires and spare, $2000.00 of work on engine, $700.00 for Media blasting paint and rust off rear and front seats, and numerous new parts (too many to mention) suspension work I paid for after his passing. I do have paperwork on the vehicle but it was never registered. Please only serious buyers. I do have a trailer for delivery in the area.”
Seller has removed a layer of blue paint which revealed olive drab. Otherwise, I would have thought this was an Air Force jeep. Maybe used by the Army, then. the Air Force?

“1953 M38A1 Willys Jeep. It is pretty much original though the electrical system has been converted to 12 volts. The brakes have been rebuilt and the tires are new. The canvas top is laying in the back on the floor. The exterior and interior were painted blue and the seats are upholstered in blue. I was going to freshen up the exterior paint. The blue easily came off with sanding leaving the original olive drab and markings. To restore it back to olive drab will take more time and energy then I have so it is for sale. Asking $6000.”
