Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I have a late production MB for sale… July 10th delivery date on dash plate with matching frame tag serial number. Still has T-84 military tranny….postwar civilian replacement engine. Has not run in two years. Engine will roll over. not siezed up…may be the original horn still mounted under hood….No gas tank…someone had cut out a hole on drivers side panel to fit a CJ gas tank fill neck.. Did not come with original front seats…Back panel uncut. there is some extra holes in body and holes that have been filled in some places.The body looks to be in fairly good shape as well as the frame…..This would be a good jeep for restoration. $4500.00 with the military tires on civilian rims and MB rear seat, or $4000.00 without seat and will put back on the wheels and tires that it came with.”
It sounds like the seller knows some history about this flattie.
“1942 Willy’s MB Serial# 125537 directly from The Pacific theater. This is an older restoration showing wonderful patina on the paint with that “been there look”. No rust or holes in the usual places.. Engine block# is 220099 and has been previously rebuilt. 12 Volt system (alternator). Additionally, equipped with lifting rings front and rear. Perfect running condition. Vehicle has been fitted with a new carburetor, intake/exhaust manifolds, (NOS) complete exhaust, flywheel, Pressure plate, Clutch, throw out bearing, fork/linkage, new Transmission (Including Case) Rebuilt Transfer case, new Temp, oil pressure and ammeter gauges. This is an unfinished Project vehicle that is not registered and hasn’t been for over 20 years. Vin plate is attached to jeep, and there are no back fees. This Jeep is being sold as is for parts only. Buyer is responsible for registering through DMV.

(08/31/2010) This “mint” condition MB has an unusual cross member underneath the grille. It also sports what appear to be warn hubs. I’d review this closely.

This looks like a deal. It runs, has a top, and a plow. That’s worth $700 easily. I’m guessing this is a MB rather than a CJ-2A.

“Military Trucks and Equipment has been restoring military vehicles since 1983. We have restored 30-40 military jeeps and a few CJ2 civilian jeeps also. This 1942 Willys MB has been professionally restored to factory original. A body-off frame-up process was followed. The engine, an L134, was rebuilt with new pistons and valves, crank shaft turn oversize. (This is not the original engine.) The jeep has a new wiring harness, by Vintage Wiring of Maine, reproduced exactly as original. The transmission is a rebuilt T84; transfer case is T18 rebuilt with a new emergency brake. Gauges are all original except the temperature grade (which is reproduction). Body tub is all original with new hat channels and floor plates. The windshield, hood, and fenders are all original. The tires, 600×16, are new from Wallace Wade. There are five combat wheels–one original and four reproduction. The following are rebuilt: radiator, starter, and generator. The voltage regulator is new. The seats in front are original; in the rear reproduction. The canvas top and seat coverings are new from Surplus City. The top bows are new reproduction. The brakes and seals are all new with silicone dot 5 brake fluid. The data plates are new as are the safety straps. The drive lines are rebuilt. The headlights are new. Blackout drive and marker lights are new and work. The light switch is original. This is the original hood number. This jeep was found on a farm in Twin Falls, Idaho (high desert terrain). The steering box is rebuilt ; it has new tie rods. The skid plate is original. The differentials were checked. This jeep has new military tail lights. The fuel tank is original with new sealer; the sending unit is new. It has new tandem windshield wipers. The tool boxes were not rusted out. Tool box lids are correct. (04/14/2010) This is an UNRESTORED MB in excellent condition.
Quoting Josh, “I think this is a truly rare opportunity to buy probably the nicest unrestored mb in private hands. I’ve known the owner for a number of years now. I can attest to the fact that he only settles for the nicest/correct original parts and knows what is period correct. A true collector, preservationist, and expert. As far as original goes this jeep is the real deal, top of the line, and something that doesn’t come up for sale. Whoever ends up with this will jeep not be disappointed.”

“This is my grandpa’s jeep. He has been collecting jeeps since before i was born and has finally begun to sell them. He used to drive our towns old war veterans around the square in the parade with his jeeps, and that is about the only time he ever took them out of storage.
Its in good condition, and starts up on the first try or two. The fiberglass antenna is cracked and broken toward the top, and the millage is vard to read due to the numbers cracking and falling off. It does not have a title. We took the make shift top off this jeep, but i dont have the pics of it without the top. It looks much better without it though.”

(04/17/2010) For a restored slat grille, this doesn’t seem like all that bad of price.
“1942 Willys Slat Grill MB, Slat Grill Frame and Grill with Composite Body, T-90 Transmission, CJ style Wheels with all new tires, Original Data Plates, This jeep has been modified over the years to accomodate better driving performance. The jeep starts, drives and brakes comfortably. Is a good dependable parade driver, hunting and or ranch jeep. ”

This is riding pretty low in the rear. The flags are a nice touch; probably raised the value another $100.
