Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This has what appears to be a very early version of the Worman Jee-Cab with the dual sliding windows and large rivets(?) around the windows. I’ve included 1948 factory photos from that top at the bottom.

1948 Willys CJ2a “Lefty”. They only produced these for a short period in 1948. No one seems to be clear why they machined this version of the 2a with the spare tire on the left. Some say it was Jeep’s way of complying with a law certain states had at the time. Others say it is for agricultural use for state municipalities. This is a rare option that will make you stand apart from the crowd. The small production numbers makes it even more rare. The Jeep isn’t running because of low compression. It has a new fuel, fuel pump, rebuilt carburetor. Brakes will need to be fixed with new master cylinder. Tub has usual floor pan rust”

“I take cash or PayPal. Have forklift for easy loading. This was a complete Jeep that was disassembled by a previous owner. Mechanical components such as the trans/engine etc have been stored indoors. Appears to be a CJ3A chassis and windshield with CJ2A tub. Aside from the rear bumper, the frame is in really good shape. Axles spin easy. Engine is stuck. Inside of trans/tcase is clean. Not shown in pictures is a rear draw bar hitch and steering linkage. Would make a good restoration project or reassemble for a farm toy.”

“Runs and drives great. I drive it at least once a week to buy beer. The good: Engine rebuilt New Clutch New steering (gearbox rebuilt, new tie rod ends, new ball joints) New battery New ignition coil Canvas top New steering wheel The bad: Needs new bell housing (cracked) Brakes are weak, probably needs new drums. Lots of bondo/body filler. Leaks a little oil from engine and transfer case Needs muffler Needs new front driveshaft (works, just loose) Speedometer broken (makes noise and needle snapped) I’m not in a hurry to sell. “THIS IS A PROJECT AND WILL NEED TRAILERING. 307 Chevy converted, motor installed by local mechanic but never completed, 4×4 works fine, bucket is in pretty good shape very little rust, it’s been stored a while but inside or under cover all but a few days. All in all pretty good for near 80 yrs old. I bought it from a friend intent on putting her on the road but health issues interfere. A good wrench could have her driving in no time.
