Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This has a new body. Not a perfect original restoration, but looks very nice.
“This is a 1946 Willys CJ2A Jeep. I’ve been restoring it for about 6 years now. It has a new metal CJ2A body tub and various other new body parts. I have invested about $9500 in vehicle, body parts, paint, rhino lining, and labor. I’m asking $6,250, but would take any reasonable offer. I’d consider half cash and a trade if it were something that appealed to me like guns, guitars, or something else with wheels to make up the rest of the value. I’m ready to deal. Street legal and much stronger than an ATV.
The 46 Willys is a low geared, 4×4, original flat head 4 banger, stick shift 3 speed. It has been converted from 6v to 12v and has always been pretty much mechanically sound. Top speed is 45-50mph. It can climb paved steep inclines even in third gear with no struggle and can get about anywhere on other terrain in lower gears and 4 wheel drive. It is perfect for the farm or ranch and does well on the state highways, back country roads, hunting trails, and open fields. It is too slow for the interstate. Though it is very much still original, I wanted it to be a daily driver so I installed an additional brake light and turn signals ( not standard for the 46).”

“1948 CJ2A, Frame off painted Mil-Spec tan. Whole list of NEW items including: new wiring and ignition, tires, shocks, blinkers, steering column and gears. New gas pedal assem., cj3a windshield frame with elec. wiper, new brakes. Emergency brake has been gone thru and functions flawlessly. Under carrage has been gone thru and all works well, no squeeks or rattles. 4×4 in good shape, all guages work and it has been switched to 12 volts. Excellent oil pressure, speedo works. Engine has been gone thru with new pistons, rods, valves, valve guides(for running reg. gas), All gaskets, thermostat, carb, fuel pump rebuilt, and new clutch. I drove it the other day in traffic and was cruising around 55-60 and the temp stayed about 160-180. New radiator, and seat belts. Comes with Bikini top, role bar, shovel on drivers side, axe on other side, 2 jerry cans and spare tire. Also most importantly- clear title in hand. What it could use…….Factory seats, factory gas tank. Currently running on boat gas take under seat. (11/04/2011) It’s called a Jonco. I has a bobcat fiberglass hood. The desert scene on the back looks familiar, but I can’t quite place where I’ve seen it.

Full rollbar, 8k Warn winch, towbar, brake line lock.
It now has brand new, wheel cylinders, lines, brakes, drums,master cylinder.
We drained the fuel tank and installed new fuel line.
It was stored for years in a garage, the tires were rotted, we put on street tires to sell it. It used to have 12×15 large mud tires on the 10″ rims.
We have the clear title, this jeep used to race, its very strong, so its not for sale to any young drivers.”

Smokestacks and snorkels: Not a combo you see everyday . . .
“1947 Willys CJ2A for sale. Fully restored by the owner. This jeep is one of the best looking Willys and turns heads down every street. The restoration was a 4 year project. I will list as many things as I can think of done to the vehicle but please talk to me for further and more in depth explanations.
Engine swap: swapped in a rebuilt 1964 Buick V6 from a skylark. Do not have exact milage but I would say under 8,000. Rebuild 2 barrel rochester.
New points, condenser
New aluminum radiator with flex-a-light fan with thermostat.
Origonal drive train with new warn locking hubs
3 inch black diamond suspension lift, 1.5 lift with extended shackles.
Converted front drum brakes to disks. A very nice thing to have.
33×14.5 Mad Dog Mud tires.
8,000 lb Mile Marker winch with remote
Custom Roll cage with 4 speakers built in; 2x 10″ subwoofers mounted behind each seat. CD player with ipod ready input. External Amp
Body and frame were both painted with por90 (rust inhibiter), and olive drab topcoat.
New brake master cylinder; all new brake lines and hoses

New polyurathane gas tank
All new Autometer guages; water temp, oil pressure, tach, fuel and speed. Do not have speedo cable.

Dual smoke stacks with flappers. Stacks have glass packs in them.”

(06/03/2012) As best as my poor spanish will translate, the seller knows this is a project and doesn’t have the money necessary to put into it. The brakes don’t work. Body appears solid on the outside.

“My good time friend needs a new home. Sad to say good bye. This 1947 Willys deserves more attention than I can give. I started to clean her up after 30 years of loyal service, but find I don’t have what it takes to complete the restoration.
All of the bumps and bruises have been worked out and the jeep is primed and ready for the colour of your choice. The engine (ford 2300 cc) is good (the most reliable motor I have ever owned!) and except for the Warn Lock in Hubs and my extras, all the rest is original. Super comfy seats are from an RX7.
Her needs are minor – seals for the brake cylinders leak and the steering box is worn. It’s now easy and cheap to get parts (Willys Over-Land Motors: 1-888-265-5337 ) Rear lights need to be reinstalled. Needs a new muffler.
This little sweetie has been a lot of fun. She is an excellent climber and can go places others can not. With this classic comes an extra tranny and transfer case, front grill, axcels, brake parts, steering wheel and more. Also have a 2 piece fiber glass hard top and canvas doors.

“1947 Cj 2A. I’ve owned and had this registered and on the road since 1992.Original 4 cl GO DEVIL engine. The engine was rebuilt three years ago. The body was done last year. The body/floors are solid. I have a fully enclosed soft top that isn’t pictured. Everything that wore out over the years has been replaced. It looks to have app 68,000 miles on it. I have never plowed the Willys. The Willys needs nothing. I’l only selling it because I don’t put many miles on it ( less than 200 per year). email with questions. $10, 000 or best reasonable offer”
