Jim spotted this nice looking CJ-5. It looks like it has a Tuxedo Park Package and appears to have the Indian Ceramic steering wheel.
“From high up in the mountains of central Colorado comes a very well preserved, 1964 CJ5 that is largely unmolested. The reason I say largely unmolested is that other than a carburetor change to aid the drivability at altitude, this jeep is all original from factory paint to the factory upholstery. The original Carter Carburetor is included, along with the air cleaner ducting should the buyer wish to return it to its stock configuration. Carter did offer a “High Altitude” kit for the “Hurricane 4″but it was rated rated at 4000 ft above sea level, but when you consider that this jeep lives at 8000 ft, and a ride into the high country may find it 13,000’+, you see the Carter solution is not viable. Re-jet you say? Carter used metering rods instead of jets, so that’s why it has the very popular Weber Progressive 2 bbl. conversion which allows re-jetting to accommodate the thin air.

“Perfect winter project or potential parts vehicle. 1965 CJ-5 Kaiser Jeep 4×4. Clean Colorado Title. I bought this jeep two years ago for $1800 based on the recommendation of a jeep enthusiast who was going to help me rebuild it. He got transferred for work and the reason I’m selling. My loss is your gain. $1500 OBO. There is a bent rod in the motor (4-cylinder Willys Hurricane), otherwise it ran solid. Swing by and take a look if you’re interested. The seats are still in the Jeep, I took them out to show the overall condition of the floor board.”

The frame is perfect and the body is good. This is a project vehicle and currently does not run or drive. It’s been in dry storage since 1980. All of the major parts are there to complete. If your looking for a Jeep project this is a great opportunity. ”
Frazier came across a fascinating post on the Land Rover Series One Club forum. Apparently, there were discussions between Land Rover and Kaiser Willys about working together or a merger. According to this book about the British Motor Industry, the talks occurred in 1958. After exchanging information and design ideas, it appears Kaiser backed out of the deal. However it happened, Land Rover engineers apparently built a hybrid CJ-5 Land Rover. All the photos can be seen at the Rover forum. You’ll need to sign up with the forum to see all the photos.
According to one of the photo’s captions, Using the transmission and chassis from an 88 inch model (shortened to 83 inches) this hybrid LR/Jeep prototype was created by Land Rover as potential partnership discussions between the two companies were held. Ultimately no association was formed but an interesting prototype all the same.
This CJ-5 is powered by a Kubota.
“Kubota turbo diesel. runs great. needs tires and wheel seal. very rust free. from Colorado this year. clear title in my name.”
The article doesn’t specify where, but it appears this jeep is in Europe somewhere. Thanks to Alex for spotting it!

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5800.
The pics show hubcaps on one side, but not the passenger side. Looks nice otherwise.
“This is a fairly rare, uncut, unmodified, CJ5. 1970 was one of the last years for the “old style” short nose CJ5 before AMC lengthened it so they could put their 232 straight 6 in it.
This one has the old 134 cubic inch Willy’s Hurricane four cylinder engine in it and it runs great. It sounds good, pulls good, does not smoke, starts very well. It has a newer top and side doors, new tires within a couple of thousand miles ago and is a lot of fun on a hot day running around town with the windshield down.
Bear in mind this is not the newer style Jeep and it is not a highway runner. It has a top speed of between 50 and 55. Off road it is a lot of fun. It was painted by a previous owner and is presentable, it has solid floors and the body is very rust free.
All Fluids have been changed and it has a new starter. I bought a new tow bar for it but never installed it, this will go with the Jeep if you want it.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $550.
There could be some parts value here.
“Nice old jeep a little rough but all original with only 21636 miles. This is also the first jeep off the line in 1960 ser 57548. Engine setup not running, floors rotted out but frame and body are pretty good shape.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $750.
Between the top and the winch this looks to have value.
“1955 Willy’s Jeep
1969 V6 Xtra Frame Fenders to many parts to list”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Chris sold this locally. Was $15,000.
“Regretfully selling my beloved 1959 Willys Jeep CJ5. This Jeep has been 100% disassembled and restored to original condition. All steel body with absolutely no rust whatsoever. Frame was sandblasted and painted with POR-15, and every detail has been taken care of.
Here is all the information…
THE GOOD
Fully restored 100%
All steel body. Painted in President Red (the original color) using base coat/clear coat and hand polished to a mirror shine
Original engine and drive train — F-head 4 cyl engine with 3 speed manual transmission, 4 wheel drive with high/low range
Beautifully upholstered seats matching the original style, color, and stitching
Kept as original as possible down to the vacuum wiper motor (passenger wiper is manual)
5 brand new radial tires
Completely rewired using reproduction original style wiring harness
Everything mechanical has been gone through and rebuilt or replaced
Draws a crowd at car shows and parking lots
Seat belts were added, although not required by law.
Kept it as original as I could. The only modernization or customization I did was the use of stainless hardware for appearance, radial tires, and Petronix electronic ignition conversion.
Extensive research went into making this as original as possible. Research revealed the correct color of the paint, the windshield frame (semi-gloss black), the upholstery, and even the headlight buckets. Every possible attempt was made to make this as perfect an example of an original 1959 Willys CJ5 as humanly possible.
