Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “6-cylinder, not running. Not sure what is wrong with engine. Head is off of the engine but is still there. Some dents in body and some surface rust. Cab corners solid. Front corners damaged. Floor is solid. Some rust in floors and bed. ”

Here’s a good looking FC-170 Glenn found.
Glenn writes, “Was out roaming in NH yesterday looking at a DJ3A. Happened by Ryan’s Garage in Center Ossipee, NH and spotted this freshly done FC170, a real sharp job. Around the parking lot was several other Willys pickups along with another FC donor. Sorry I didn’t get a front shot, but what you don’t see just to the left of the pix is a vey large, loud, chained dog. Nobody came out to tell us differently, so we stayed right in the car. Maybe some of the locals can tell us more. This is SNOW country and these FC models didn’t last long up here.”

It runs via a Chrysler V8.
“Small displacement chrysler V8 engine . These were in production from 1956 until 1963. There arent many that have survived. This is the only rust free example i have ever seen. I have the complete history for this truck. It has been in the central valley of California since it was new. Complete truck running with a few new parts in boxes.”

“old crusty jeep FC170. i bought it for the flatbed,that will NOT come with it.
it has the flathead 226 super hurricane motor with hi comp head,and it runs well. the tranny is shot. i’ve driven it around the yard. the windshield is decent,couple chips no cracks.
this is not something to buy and try to revive. it’s parts truck. i have a title,sign by a po and never finalized.”

“One of the most sought after Jeep Forward Controls. 1 of 400 made and one of 60 known to still be around.
1964 M-677 Kaiser Jeep Willys forward control FC 170 4 door with factory Cerlist 3 cylinder Diesel engine.
Complete truck needing a total restoration. Very rusty but almost impossible to find a 4 door in any condition.
Clean title. Price $6,000 with the Cerlist Diesel, $4,000 without the Cerlist specific parts. Most people hot rod and don’t use the original equipment.”

I bought the truck for the bed and don’t need the rest. This is the wide track version not the narrow track. Solid cab corners and doors. Desirable set of lockouts. Now the bad, for some reason the last owner welded around where the top of the cab meets the bottom and welded straps on the body. Never seen anything like it. Not sure why they did it. I was told running when parked but if it was it was a long time ago.
If you know anything about FC’s you know finding a rust free cab with good doors isn’t the easiest thing to come across.
