UPDATE: Price dropped to $6000.
(01/31/2013) Numbers matching according to the seller, but still plenty of work left.
“1942 Ford GPW war jeep. This is a matching numbers vehicle and therefore considered the best choice for an accurate, period restoration. Matching number Ford GPWs are almost impossible to find, due to the fact that the motor pools would change-out engines as needed and not rebuild and replace the same one.
Also, this is an excellent restoration choice due to the condition. The jeep has not been modified at all, with the exception of the addition of a roll bar, and retains all of the correct parts. Jeeps of this era have usually been modified to an extreme. After the war, bought surplus, they were used on ranches and farms, for hunting and survey work–and in recent decades, extreme off road use. Each brought its own modification.
This rare bird has a body–the tub– in rare un rotted/smashed/chopped up condition. This adds a great deal of value for the final restoration product.
It has not been run in a couple of decades, but was driven until it was parked. The engine turns over easily, without a wrench needed.
What matching numbers means: The frame # and the engine # match. There are no numbers on the bodies of this type, other than the data plate, which unfortunately is gone.
The tires are suitable for rolling around, but it will need a trailer for transport.
This GPW is the one all the serious restorers are looking for. As complete restorations go, it will be easier than most, due to the condition and completeness.
Asking 10K. The price may go down in several months, but for now that’s it, so don’t bother with offers unless you want to go on the waiting list.
Not interested in trades, I need the cash. The truck is near east Oakland, California, across the bay from San Francisco. Please reply via this ad. Can be shown during the week as well as weekends. Please be a nice person, i.e. don’t waste my time if you don’t have the cash.
See the pictures here on the link below for Photobucket.
Have a great day.
