This article appeared in The Lima News, out of Lima, Ohio. Buy a bond and get a ride in a Jeep. That sounds like it was worth the price! I don’t see a year listed on the article.
This 1955 article in the September/October issue of Willys News highlights how dealer Elmer Horstmeyer uses his service jeep to generate more revenue.
The Ottawa Citizen published an article in March of 1955 about a jeep wrecked by a train. I think we can all agree that the moral of this story is to avoid trains when driving a jeep.
This May 1957 article from Willys News highlights the dependability of jeeps in cold weather.
In 1970 the Montreal Gazette published a story from Acapulco, Mexico, about the Las Brisas Hotel and its pink and white jeeps.
A February 9, 1944, issue of the Lawrence Journal-World featured a story about a US Navy jeep rides used to raise money for the purchase of jeeps for the military.
The Spokane Daily Chronicle shared the sad photo of this abandoned jeep.
The June 28, 1942, issue of the Spokesman-Review featured this photo. It shows Master Sergeant Kindle Walston of Louisville, KY, driving his buddies in a jeep somewhere in Egypt.
This photo depicts a Seep acting as an ambulance in Tunisia. The photo was published on March, 29, 1943, in the Spokane Daily Chronicle.
The November 1953 issue of Cars Magazine contained this two page article. Note the jeep on the lower right of page 2. See the rear extension box. It’s got a matching cover that connects with soft top.
This issue of Cars Magazine had a few more jeep references. Below are short descriptions of an electric seep, a photo of right hand CJ-3Bs used by the Post Office, and a look at the rolligon.
This short article shows one way to float a Mighty Mite.
This 1964 article shares the unusual way a jeep caused a power outage. The story was reported in newspapers across the country.
This photo shows a MB/GPW that’s got a stretched rear. There’s no obvious indication an extension was tacked onto the back of a standard body. It was published in the May 7, 1946, issue of the Spokesman Review.
This press photo from Dakar was published in the June, 4, 1943 issue of the Spokesman Review.
The Prescott Evening Courier published a photo and story about soldiers entering a freed Paris in 1942.
The 1943 Christmas Day issue of The Afro American featured a photo of kids from the Mott School in Washington surrounding a jeep that had been driven into the auditorium. The school had just concluded a war bond drive. There’s no mention of how successful the bond drive was.

The May 1957 issue of Willys News covered the 2nd Annual Jeep Derby in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Among the racers were Bud Jackson from the Hemet Jeep Club and Wally Klingele and Barney Nelson from the Yakima Ridge Runners. Klingele and Nelson drove their jeeps to the event! Only 14 of the 20 entrants completed the eighty mile race.
The San Francisco Gate published this photo of Princess Elizabeth as part of a tribute to the jeep in 2014.

In fact, even during her Honeymoon in 1947 Princess Elizabeth was driven by her husband Prince Phillip.
This May 1957 article highlights the successful slogan the Jacobson Motor Company of Omaha, Nebraska, used to attract buyers. Pete Comley, sales manager, came up with the slogan and added it to one of the company’s wagons.
The June 24, 1953, issue of the Spokesman-Review featured a photo of Yakima Ridge Runners Chet Thompson and Wally Klingele of the Yakima Ridge Runners practicing for the July 4th jeep rodeo.
This cowboy preferred to rope a cow with a saddle mounted on a CJ-3B. I don’t know a whole lot about rodeo history, but according to the Lodi newspaper competitive jeep-roping occurred at least between 1952-1998. Below is an April 21, 1982, photo published in the Lodi News Sentinenl, the best photo evidence I could find of jeep-roping.
I found this second photo from 1998, but it does’t provide much detail. In this case the jeep looks like it might be a MB/GPW.
This May 1957 article shares two jeeps with unusual modifications.
A May 1957 article from Willys News reported that the first FC-150 to Alaska was sent by plane. Unfortunately, to fit on the plane it had to be disassembled. Look how close that cab is to not fitting. Someone in Alaska sure wanted that FC badly!
