For the price, this could be worth a look. Though listed as a 1952 M-38A1, the body and front clip look like they are from a CJ-5 (except for the fact that there is no “JEEP” stamped into the cowl.

Bill shared this article that describes this custom build as a 1948 M38. However, it’s appears to be a modified CJ-2A. It’s an interesting build, but calling it one of the “greatest flat fenders ever built” is a stretch (in my opinion).

“My Dad has a 1952 Willy’s keep he needs to sell. This is the M38A1 this is the 1st year of the CJ5 / Military Edition. He has everything there. The motor is not in the vehicle. It was pulled to rebuild but he wound up buying another complete used engine. He has just gotten older and no time to fix it back up. It includes the original mechanical winch as well. “I have up for sale or trade my 1953 US Army M38A1 Willy’s Jeep. The price is $4,000 OBO but that doesn’t mean that there’s a lot of wiggle room on my price. This Jeep has a clear title but hasn’t been registered. Looks nice, but doesn’t run at the moment. Given the 3Bs and DJ-3As were produced into the 1960s, the M-38 wasn’t quite the last of the flat fenders.

“I have two M38 Military M38 that are 1950-1952, theres no way to tell a specific year that I’ve been able to figure out. Neither of them run, the green one is together but has a hole in the oil pan. Its a very solid vehicle. The other has been torn down and all the parts I’ve got are sitting on a pallet. Since these were never intended to be registered for road use they were not given a vin number when new. Most people used the engine number as a serial/vin but neither of these have been previously registered.

The green one has recently been issued a vin number by the CHP and I have the paperwork needed to register. The year on the paperwork is not correct, I believe they marked it down as a 1946. I really want these to go to someone that will fully restore one or both. Located here in Chico, I accept cash ONLY. I am able to deliver these if needed but we will need to discuss the details of that in person. BOTH GO TOGETHER AS A PAIR, NO PARTS WILL BE SOLD OFF OF THEM.”
