Here’s a new illustration from Roberto Flores. Someone else will need to translate 🙂
1943 Letter w/ Jeep Illustration at Top on eBay
Here’s a letter on a jeep illustrated letterhead, one I’ve never seen.
“An original World War Two letter including the envelope written by Cliff Brandow who was in the 256th Field Artillery. This letter is dated Oct. 18, 1943. It has the logo of a jeep with soldiers and says, Camp Gordon Augusta Georgia. I currently have other letters written by this individual listed. The letter is in very good condition, with some light wear, the cover has wear.”

1951 M-38 Jackson, MS $2200
Mark listed this over at warjeeps.com.
“What you are looking at is an original 1951 M38 Jeep. The Jeep has the correct MC engine, but does have a repairable crack above the distributor. A correct RMC engine block will come with it. The body is pretty straight. It has the usual floor rust. Most of the rust through area is in the driver front floor, but just where the flat panels are meaning it would be an easier repair job if you know how. The engine is not locked and spins freely. The Jeep has most of its original paint from the Korean War era and also still has its hood numbers both are pretty unusual to see on a Jeep as old as this. I would prefer this old steel soldier to find a good home to bring it back to life! I don’t usually sell my project Jeeps, but my dually needs 6 new tires.”
1949 CJ-3A Bangor, ME $850

“This is a very early (599th one produced!) 1949 CJ-3A with an L-134 Go-Devil 4 cyl engine, T-90 Transmission and D18 Transfer case. This runs but will be a serious project.
Frame:
Overall excellent. Some rust in spots but no rot or evidence of repair.
Body:
Extremely rough but minimal patches and/or bondo so you can see what you are dealing with. Worse tubs have been brought back to life with the little dedication and a MIG welder.
1948 CJ-2A Helena, MT **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1000.
Doesn’t run.
“Here is a cute little CJ2A I picked up a week ago that needs to find somebody with time to work on it. It looks like it is all complete, the engine turns over and some of the expensive things you never think about when figuring what a restoration will cost — like the seat springs are there. The gauges are all there, with a little tinkering it would probably fire up and run and go play. Or if you need parts — here they are. The little L head engines are getting hard to find, if I didn’t already have a good running one and a spare one for my 48 CJ I’d just keep this.
There are a lot of good parts here, these things have really gotten popular in recent years and the supply of some original parts is pretty slim. The gauges are worth money — the new Chinese ones are crap – the grill and starter and generator and wheels are all worth some bucks.
I just put 48 in the year, I don’t know exactly what year it is and the 113275 is actually the model number. I put parts only in for the title because I don’t have it in hand yet but they are supposed to be sending it to me. When I get the title it will have the year and all that on it — should be in the mail in a day or two.”

Just a Couple Updates Tonight
I got back late from Seattle late last night, so just a couple updates. Several readers asked if I got anything done on Biscuit while there, but (as Mitch can attest, because he dropped by) I took an hour to stare at the jeep, but between minor book fixes, caring for dad, and sonny-do projects, I didn’t have much extra time.
On my way home I stopped by to visit Roy Williams and his friend, Todd Francis. Todd is the 2nd or 3rd largest manufacturer of two-piece high performance VW blocks in the world. He ships them all around the planet. It was a real treat to watch the blocks being milled, drilled, and cleaned. His racing buggy was pretty cool, too. I didn’t have my camera with me, so no pics.
You can learn more about them on Facebook or at his website (which will be receiving a makeover sometime soon).
Hundreds of M-606s
Blaine spotted this great photo showing hundreds of what appear to be M-606s about ready to be shipped to Iran in 1962. It’s part of an article in the Toledo Blade about the 75th anniversary of the Willys-Overland-produced jeep.

One Way to Save on Gas
The green FC-170 pictured below is the one for sale out of Chicago. I have to say, this is one way to save on gas!
The Australian Combat 6 & Sportster CJ-5s
Maury ran across this rare CJ-5 and figured few people knew about it (I’ve never written anything about it). Kaiser Jeep of Australia built what they called Jeep Combat 6, a CJ-5 derivative. They had Ford 170ci straight 6 motors, the same engine used in the early Mustangs. It was the Australian answer to the Dauntless V6 being installed Stateside.
About 460 Jeep Combat 6 vehicles were made. Of the 460, it is unknown how many were CJ5’s or CJ6’s, as all documented records were either lost or destroyed. The chassis and the tubs were imported from Kaiser’s US plant and assembled with the Ford engines in Brisbane. Here’s photos of 1968 Combat 6 that was for sale about a year ago in Australia:
You can learn more about them at the CJ-3B page (scroll down to the page’s bottom). Here’s an example of a Combat 6 brochure.
According to the 3B page, the Combat 6 marketing didn’t last for long. The Australian arm of Kaiser Jeep dropped the Combat 6 brand, possibly replacing it with the Sportster. As you can see in this ad that was for sale on Australia’s eBay, the Sportster CJ-5 had the inline 6. If anyone has more info, please let me know. I couldn’t find much on these.
1948 CJ-2A Hayward, CA **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $7500
(12/03/2013) I see nothing to indicate it’s earlier than 1947, but it does look good.

All original drive train. Has overdrive. Mechanically perfect, needs nothing.”
1955 Truck w/ Dump Bed Chehalis, WA **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $6500.
(12/28/2016) Might need some engine work.
“Up for sale is a 1955 Willy’s pickup truck.
I acquired the rig in southern Idaho 2 years ago and have been working on it on and off since. This rig was previously in Colorado so it has been in dry climates most of its life. I bought it a a restoration and to use as a around town work truck but ended up getting something newer so its up for grabs.
It is tabbed and platted in Washington.
I have done a lot on this truck, last time I started it a few months ago it ran drove and stopped.
The body is really solid, its got a few dents and dings but is actually in amazing condition for its age. The bed is a 6’8” x8′ dumping flatbed. Dump hydrolics run off of PTO, engine is early to mid 60’s gmc 283 small block v8. T18 transfer t90 tranny. It comes with a 8k lb Ramsey work winch that is currently mounted in the bed. Paint is good in some area and fading in others it might be the original paint job. All lights and signals work. This rig has a 3\4 ton payload

There is a small amount of body damage from an accident that bent the frame and broke the steering linkage. The Jeep is currently on non-op and the title is clean.”
