Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1942 Ford GPW (Jeep) for sale . Partial restore.
Body clean, needs a little work,
glass is good,
seats restored,
engine purr’s like a kitten.
transmission is good (a bit of whirl in the drive line)
New rubber on original rims.
Electrical is good. Dash is in good shape with S/N seal.
Jeep also comes with a winch if needed (not installed, not original), tow bars. Overall the jeep is clean and runs well. Mechanically it will not need a much work. Jeep runs great. Is a great restoration project that should be relatively easy. Gets a lot of thumbs up going down the road.

Vic surprised me with an unusual story today.
He writes, “We have an historic home (1827) where there was a fire in 1945. Following that event the home underwent some serious refurbishing. Fast forward to 2011 and my wife decided to strip the wallpaper from our bedroom – four layers as it turned out. The final layer was a blue-gray with a patriotic theme – the Statue of Liberty with a B-24 flying past and a battleship. The best part is the Jeep with a field piece.”
Due to his wife’s heroic efforts, several pieces of wallpaper showing the jeep were saved, a couple of which Vic said he will send my direction (thanks!). He included this image of jeep and artillery.
From the Hawaii War Records Depository, the two women shown below in this Ford GPW were the only women authorized in Hawaii to drive jeeps as of November 1942. According to the caption that accompanies the photograph, “Meet the jeep girls–Lorraine O’Brien and Nina Smith! These women drivers are the only two who have been authorized by the army automotive office to operate jeeps and armored half tracks and to convoy any type of army vehicle in Hawaii. Lorraine, an island girl, and “Smitty,” from Houston, Tex. . . . By Betty MacDonald.” The photo was taken November 3, 1942.

These photographs of Border Jeeps come from a Septmeber 1949 article in Mechanix Magazine. You can read the entire article here.
In this picture you can clearly see this is a CJ-2A. It didn’t take them long to customize the bumper.
The first image below appears to show a MB. I’m a little surprised it doesn’t have a top for shade like the other border jeeps I’ve seen. The second picture is likely a CJ-2A based on the bas tank inlet.

Here’s a rare grille.
“From a recent find of parts hidden away many years, This is a used and abused original front grille from a Ford GP as pictured. It’s used, it’s been repainted many times. His minor dings, see photos, will clean up for a beautiful front grille.”

This needs the clutch replaced. The seller mentions it has an ‘aluminum’ buick V-6; however, I suspect the seller has confused that with the aluminum V-8. The engine is most likely cast iron if it is a V-6. This may be a good price.
“1953 jeep willys, army green with rebuilt Buick v6 aluminum engine, only 38,000 miles. New muncie 4 speed transmission with high low overdrive. 4×4. Canvas top with bucket seats and old school cb radio. This things awesome, its lifted, it has a working winch on the front bumper, like new tires. Only issue is it needs the clutch replaced. If you’re good with cars the price I’m asking is a steal. Parts are inexpensive, all gm, and easy to come by. If you have it done professionally however you’re looking at about $1200, I have the quote on hand. All told you’d be spending around $4200 if you go that route, and $3800 tops if you can do it yourself. I’m in the military and I just don’t have the time or resources to get this fixed. For sale is our Willys CJ2A nicknamed Limey for obvious reasons. While we have owned Limey we have replaced the clutch, water pump, head gasket, head studs/nuts and have inspected the brakes. The L head 4 cylinder runs good. The T90 3 speed transmission is strong and does not pop out of second gear. 4WD works great. Limey has also been converted to 12 volts. Overall the body condition is fair to good, it would need work to be perfect but it is usable as is now. The exhaust system also needs some work but we are including a piece of piping that should fix the problem. We also have a roll-bar that we can throw in if interested. Limey’s S/N is 153,891 and the frame tag, body tag and S/N tag all match. In addition the toeboard gusset and tailgate numbers match, their number is 143,524. While this S/N would make Limey a 1948, we have clear Minnesota title as a 1947. We are asking $2,200 OBO for Limey. Please e-mail with questions or to get contact information.”

“I originally bought this Jeep because it is the style I always wanted, 4WD with windows and delivery doors. I wanted something cool and fun to drive around. This Willys starts, runs and drives really well,everything works. It is 50 years old and has some rust under the doors. The paint job is fair, glass is all good. It could be a good driver or solid restoration. I have an overdrive kit for it and replaced the rear main and front axle seals in 2011.”
