“”Whoa Nelly” Being a fan of Roy, Dale and Pat I decided I wanted a Nelly Belle of my own so this 1947 CJ2A turned into one. It sure isn’t “the” Nelly But I think Pat would recognize her. She is very stock, 6V, L head stock axels. Tires about 2 years old with less than 500 miles. Radiators good, fuel tanks new, all gauges work. Starts, runs and stops fine. No steering wobble. The Nelly Belle tins included of course, 20 mm ammo cans, hand fabricated doors and a cut down windshield complete with gun port. She’s ready to parade or play, biggest problem is finding people who know who Roy, Dale, Pat and Nelly are. Isn’t that a shame.”

“1946 Willy’s bought new at Al Archard Motors 224 E. Grand ave, Escondido. Has the very desirable half cab top that was originally canvas but was covered in galvanized tin back in the early 1950’s by tom Bandy’s Blacksmith shop. She starts right up and purrs ! Engine runs strong and all gearing and four wheel drive components function. It will need the brakes, steering, suspension and cooling system addressed before putting her back on the road. This jeep was built for both agricultural use and recreation. The prior owner told me stories of he and his father driving it up 395 into the Sierras in the 1950’s then returning home to use it as the tractor on the ranch. It was still attached to a plowing disc when I purchased it. This little Willy’s is perfect for parades, Tractor shows or just looking good in the yard. I have title and it is registered ‘non-op’.”

According to IMDB, “This film depicts World War II through the eyes of several Dutch students. It follows them through the beginning of the war, the Nazi occupation and the liberation.”
This made me laugh. Just a silly movie.
Buz spotted this beautiful CJ-2A that will be auctioned August 20th. You can learn more about the auction at the Owls Head Transportation Museum or visit the museum, which is on Route 73 about 85 miles north of Portland, Maine. I think that will be a long drive for most of us!
It isn’t particularly stock, but it looks nice enough.

Notes from emails:
The script on the front is the same as the 46-49 Willys station wagon tailgate script.
In 1950 Willys Overland lost the rights to use the full name, so they had to switch to Willys.
Willys 2WD trucks had column shifts from 1947 until end of 2WD production and this van sits on a 2WD Willys truck chassis, so mechanically, it would be like a Willys truck or Willys 2WD station wagon. The truck chassis had a wider track at the rear and a longer wheelbase that the station wagon, but same Jeep engine and transmission.
Seller info: “EXTREMELY RARE WALK IN METRO VAN-I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANOTHER ONE LIKE IT-IN FACT, I NEVER KNEW THAT WILLY’S MADE THIS TYPE OF TRUCK. THERE IS NO TITLE NOR ANY IDENTIFYING INFORMATION, I CAN ONLY GUESS THE YEAR TO BE LATE 50’S TO MID 60’S. LOTS OF RUST, SOME BROKEN GLASS, MISSING THE BACK DOORS, SIDE DOORS THERE BUT RUSTED BADLY, FRAME IS BADLY RUSTED. NO MOTOR, TRANS, WHEELS BUT THE ROOF IS IN PRETTY GOOD SHAPE WITH NO HOLES. I WANTED TO MAKE THIS SWITCH AND HAVE A ONE OF A KIND TRUCK THAT NO ONE HAS EVER SEEN BEFORE BUT HAVE NEITHER THE TIME NOR MONEY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS. I AM SURE SOMEONE HAS BOTH AND HAVE OFFERED THIS ON A “NO RESERVE” BASIS. KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS IS NOT A ROLLING ASSEMBLY AND MUST BE PLACED ON A TRAILER OR ROLL BACK TO BE MOVED. I HAVE ONLY BEEN ABLE TO GET A FEW OVERALL PICS BUT I THINK THEY SAY IT ALL. IT’S A PROJECT BUT IT’S WAY COOL AND DEFINETLY A ONE OF A KIND FIND. Darrel wrote me recently noting that he has a 1945 GAZ-67B living in his garage. He said it was also known as an Ivan-Willys, which is similiar to a real Willys, because it has a Ford-A engine that was made in Russia under license. It is cool! Thanks for sharing Darrel!
Darrel writes, “The GAZ 67 World War Russian vehicles were produced from 1943 to 1953. There were only 5000 of these models made during the war, but in total there were 92,843 of these models produced. It had a 4-cylinder 3280 cc gasoline motor and a top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph).”

Here is an example of a grass cutter being used to trim some clover.
Mike Mark shows that he knows how to cut a clover field with his 1948 CJ-2A.
I guess the part about the tub being part CJ-2A and part CJ-5 is only shared on a need-to-know basis. That said, for a run about vehicle it probably functions just fine.

Debbie, you and I need to talk. Seriously. I mean, to claim this is “Unadulterated” is a bit of a stretch, don’t you think? I know it is a big word, but, still, I feel like I have a pretty solid grasp of the concept and this isn’t it.
“A fine unadulterated example of the CJ2A model from the last year they were manufactured. It has an older Emerald Green paint job that’s year appropriate and looks fine at 20 feet, but is peeling in places. The body and frame are very solid, showing only light surface rust and no rust penetrations. It starts easily, runs and drives well, the 4-cyl flathead “Go Devil” engine is strong and blows clean. The electrical system has been converted to 12-volt for reliability.
The jeep has been barn kept for the past 10 years and used around the farm to pull garden equipment. This jeep would make a great summer driver as-is, and is the perfect candidate for a simple restoration to make it a 10.
