Travel Update
After a couple days in Omaha, we are cruising to Colorado Springs for the weekend to visit my Ann’s friends. The weather so far has been perfect, with beautiful blue skies. We have only had two near misses (cars switching lanes into us — you’d think a bright red mustang would be easy to see against the endless brown fields, but, nope, some drivers just seem intent on making our drive that much more interesting). I had my first Runza while in Omaha, which is a lot like a Russian Piroshki, but not deep fried. It won’t be my last.
Thankfully, the mobile broadband is functioning beautifully, hence the updates this afternoon. On Monday we will be in Denver for two meetings I have, then on Tuesday we head back to Omaha.
A Unique Hunting Jeep
Paul forwarded me some images from a friend of his who built this hunting jeep for a client. I think there is some nice work here. Thanks Paul! My weapons specialist gf thought it was very cool!
Paul wrote, “this M-38 was built by a friend of mine (Rob Fife), who is a master at fabrication. He restored the M-38 for a customer, who then decided he wanted a hunting rack on it. He built the frt/rear racks to be quick attach, with quick pins, and the rear seat mounts on pedestals so it can be used front or rear. Then the customer decided he wanted to use in parades so gun mounts were added for (3) airsoft m60’s for crowd control. It handles good and isn’t too top heavy.”
1946 CJ-2A Monmouth Junction, NJ **SOLD**
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay
“I AM LISTING THIS WILLYS FOR MY SON. SO, RIGHT NOW MY DESCRIPTION MAY NOT BE ALL INCLUSIVE UNTIL HE REVISES IT. THIS IS A NICE RUNNING WILLYS THAT DOESN’T NEED ANYTHING TO BE A DAILY DRIVER. CURRENTLY BEING USED AS A TOY, THE WILLYS IS GARAGE KEPT IN A CLIMATE CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT. IT RUNS NICELY AND HAS THE NORMAL TOP SPEED OF 45MPH. THE INTERIOR IS BASIC WILLYS WITH NO FRILLS. IT DOES HAVE SOME SMALL ROT SPOTS IN THE STORAGE COMPARTMENT UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT AND SOME SPOTS ALONG THE INSIDE OF THE REAR WHEEL WELLS. THE PICTURES SHOULD SHOW IT IF ENLARGED. IT COMES WITH A CANVAS TOP AND DOORS. GAUGES ALL WORK EXCEPT THE GAS GUAGE. THE ACTUAL MILEAGE OF THE WILLYS IS UNKNOWN. I PUT 50000 TO FILL IN THE UPPER BLOCK AND MAKE EBAY HAPPY. THE WINDSHIELD IS INTACT. IT OPENS OUT AND IT ALSO FOLDS FORWARD. THE TIRES ARE NEW. IT HAS NO MAJOR ROT OR DENTS ON THE EXTERIOR. THE PAINT JOB WAS DONE BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER WITH A RATTLE CAN BUT IT DOESN’T LOOK TOO BAD. COULD USE THE RUBBER CAB MOUNTS ON THE REAR AND ALL OF THE OTHER MOUNTS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. IT ALSO HAS A PTO FOR A 3 POINT HITCH IN THE REAR. WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS WAS A FARM TRUCK IN NORTH JERSEY. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IS NEAT AND CLEAN. IT HAS ALL NEW METAL BRAKE LINES, WHEEL CYLINDERS AND HOSES. IT HAS ALSO BEEN CONVERTED OVER TO 12 VOLT. THIS IS A COOL LITTLE TRUCK TO TOOL AROUND IN AND IT DEFINITELY TURNS HEADS OF THOSE IN THE KNOW. CLEAN TITLE IN HAND.”

“I have a 1951 Jeep Willys CJ3A for sale. This girl is fun to drive and with summer here, will be a fun in the sun antique to drive. This jeep looks like it could have crawled up the beaches of Normandy and is a 4×4 that won’t get stuck in the mud. This Jeep is not mint or show quality, but it is in overall good body condition. When did CJ-5s switch to 12 Volt?
UPDATE: Thanks everyone!
Brian asked me if I knew when CJ-5s switched to 12 volts. I couldn’t find the answer online, so I was hoping someone might know? He has a 1956 that is 6 volts.
No Updates until Thursday — Biscuit temporarily not for sale
There won’t be any more updates until Thursday.
On another note, since I’m about to begin a month of traveling and will be away, I’m going to remove Biscuit from the ‘for sale’ category. Hopefully, between now and the end of November, I will finally get a job offer I’ve been awaiting. If that occurs, Biscuit won’t be re-listed any time soon, which might just please my mother more than anyone for I think she was the one most upset about me selling it!
For the record, I think Steve’s Jinx worked; I never received a single call about the my ad either off eWillys or Craigslist.
However, I will still consider selling the paddle tires and/or the desert dogs.
Paul’s 2WD Street and Parade Jeep
UPDATE: More pics added to this post that show the build process. Thanks for sharing Paul!
Paul wrote to me a couple days ago to share his nearly completed project. I’ll bet it will be a kick to drive. He notes that eWillys “gets part of the blame for my madness.” Yeah, I’ve heard that a few times 🙂
“My project is a 1949 CJ-2A that i inherited. It has a custom tube chassis, 2wd, rack and pinion steering and 4 link rear suspension. The body is stretched and frt wheels moved forward. The 5.0 ford engine has an aluminum head and a roller cam. The tranny is a c-4 auto. The rear end is built with a narrowed 3.73 8.8 inch ford with traction lock. The fuel cell mounts under rear seat. Finally, the markings on the jeep are from my unit in vietnam. It is going to be a street rod and parade car. I have had a blast building it so far and hope to have it on the road soon.”
