Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Alan has been sharing those great jeeping images from the Four Corners. He helps run a website called VMSB244.com where WWII men from the VMSB244 squadron are honored and remembered. One cool feature is that they have scanned original letters written by the men of that squadron.

This has an unusual dash. This was for sale 3 years ago at a much higher price. This might be a good price even though it doesn’t sound like it runs at the moment.

Can someone explain to me why a PA title would need to be transferred at a messenger service (what is a messenger service)? The engine has been taken apart.
“1965 Jeep CJ-5A

This Jeep has been in our family for many years. The mileage is probably not correct but it says 22946. I was in the process of rebuilding the engine and restoring it. I have the head removed and valve/pushrod cover removed. Also various other engine parts have been removed and inspected to get to the engine. I have all the removed parts inside the Jeep. This Jeep has never been rebuilt prior to me working on it. The last time this Jeep ran was sometime in the 90’s. It sat in a garage until 2003. That’s when I brought it home and started working on it. Transmission is a T-90 3 on the tree. Engine is a Hurricane F-134, partly dismantled. I’ve included 24 pics on the site but if you would like more please let me know.
Please forgive me I’ve probably left out a lot of details.
But ask/email and I will answer and send as many specific pics as you would like.

I did not know that “No Salt Cancer” is a “Mechanics Term”. Engine’s got a problem.

This is rough. Strangely, the two connecting bars between the front and back loops of the roll cage were cut out. You can just see where they were on both loops.

I hope someone can buy and properly restore Les’ Jeep (assuming the documentation confirms it was his jeep). For those that don’t know, Les Schwab bought a tire store in Prineville in 1952 that has become a 330+ store chain here in the west (company history). Not bad for a guy who became an orphan at the age of 15. I didn’t know him, but everything I’ve heard suggests he was a man of his word. According to one reader, he was an early champion of the Formula Desert Dogs. Les passed away in the summer of 2007.

1. 1961 FC-170 DRW 226, 3 spd, all original drive train, has radio and heater. $20,000
2. 1965 FC-170 Kaiser, very good original body and good bed floor, 283 V8 advance adapter, T-90/D-20. a nice project truck. $5,000
3. 1961 FC-150 wide track, it has a great body. no motor or trans. It has 70s Blazer 3.08 44F and 10 bolt 6 lug axles, installed. $2,000
4. 1957 FC-170 cab and chassis, 8 lug 44F and Dana 60 rear 4.10 gears, it comes with really good front fender flare rubber edge. $4,000.

Alan writes, “These WWII photos came from my grandfather while he was with VMSB 244 on EWA, HI. The guys would train at Ewa and then go on to Midway and many other Islands during their time in the Marine Corp.”

“1951 Willys Jeep CJ3, powered by a 1966 Buick V6 engine. Three speed, lock out hubs. Most of it is original with exception of the engine and the seats. In decent shape but needs some TLC at this point. Hasn’t been started in a while but last time I used it it ran strong. Haven’t had time to do much with it over last two years and basically it’s just been sitting in the garage. Pretty much garage kept ’til about 3 weeks ago. If you happen to be in France and staying at the Avril Williams Guest House, in Auchonvillers, France, you must take a trip across the street and visit the small museum. There you will find a set of compact dioramas from several wars. In the World War II diorama sits a restored MB or GPW of some vintage.
I found a pic of the jeep at this website, which follows someone’s journey through the battlefields of France.
