Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. Here’s a sneak peak of an ambulance. I haven’t come across too many later model Willys Ambulances.
Roberto Flores shared with us a recent commissioned drawing he did of a CJ-3A. As I told him, it’s always nice to see the details of a jeep drawn by someone who has worked on one. Below it is an image of Roberto and his project.

Here’s an old dependable that needs a new master cylinder.
“63 willys cj5 w/ 6ft power angle plow. 4cyl f-head, 3spd.shifts threw all gears.clutch sticks when it sits but free’s up. i have had it going 35 or so down my street. this has been my yard plow for the past 2 years and has never let me down starts everytime. right now it only has about a foot of exhaust but really isnt that loud, ok maybe it is. the last storm the master cylinder blew out, before that the brakes worked fine. i dont have any paper work for it but will give a bill of sale. there is rot and some hacking done on the body but over all not to bad off. could be a nice off road project.”

Here’s a nice M-38A1.
“This is a Collectors 1952 Willys Jeep M38A1 with a yellow paint job that is a year old.
The seats were done year ago in camouflage red. Jeep has a 231 Buick V6 motor that is yellow to match paint and was installed about year ago. Power Steering was also added, plus the steering wheel has tilt. Jeep runs great and has been garaged every night at the Dealership. New BF Goodrich Tires and black rims, Paint and Interior are in Great Condition. Everything has been replaced and redone from Brakes, Paint, Interior, Exhaust. There has been lots of Nuts and Bolts that have been re chromed. The 4×4 works great with the 3 speed shifter with added overdrive lever. The Overdrive lever allows the Jeep to go on the Highway and will easy hit 75+ mph. Transmission is original on the Jeep, also a new wiring Kit was installed. Brand new Top is included with the Jeep. One vehicle I wanted to highlight from the Wonderful World of Willys Wagons was Charley Crossley’s Wild Willys. I tried to located additional images of it, but the only ones I found were on the WWWW website. I liked Charley’s creativity, so I wanted to make sure readers saw it as well. It looks like there’s been a patch along the driver’s side. Otherwise, this appears pretty stock. It’s not running.

“Project that I dont have time to finish. Will take $1500 for the whole thing or part out. Here it is 1949 Willys cj3a jeep. TUB has been rebuilt little surface rust, new box tubing in place of old channel iron and a lot of new steel, tool box on passenger side still there and not rusted out $500..Wind shield frame looks straight, comes with rubber moulding for windshield and NEW rubber cowl moulding $150.. Front fenders, have some cracks and support on passenger side is rusted off $100 for both..Grill comes with head lights and new parking lights “not stock size” $100… Tailgate, needs some work still has Willys logo $50…..Hood has a few dents but looks straight, as far as I know original Willys hood $100…Soft top, Comes with mounting hardware, its not perfect. $200…. Frame, Comes with front and rear axles, 1 1/2 inch add a leafs, frnt and rear shocks, and power steering gear box $500…Transmission and transfer case as a unit $400…. Buick v6 engine last started about 2 years ago ran good $500…. All four tires and rims, I believe tires are 235-75-15,never seen pavement, as far as i know and were put on new about 8 years ago, $100… There are a lot of little things that go with this jeep. This has a few changes.
“1946 CJ-2A. Has a GPW grill and head lights. 225 oddfire v-6, t-90 4 speed trans. All rewired with newer style 10 circuit fuse panel. Head lights work, high and low beams, tail lights, blinkers, dash light for the gauges, license plate light, all work. All gauges and speedometer work. new coil, new points, new plugs, new radiator, custom air cleaner designed to fit on the carb. without having to cut out the hood which is common when installing a v-6 in these jeeps. new seat covers. warn hubs, tow bar. This jeep runs great. The only thing I know that is wrong is that the brakes probably need to be bled out. You have to pump the brakes a few times then they work great. Runs great. I got this to use as a hunting jeep. Well, times are tough and some things just have to go. I do not have the title but it is in my name. If you are interested, all I have to do is get the paperwork for a lost title and a transfer of title and put it in your name. I will have DMV paperwork in hand. Ive done it before and its really not difficult at all. Asking $3,500 O.B.O. Can reach me at 530 312 1433. NO TRADES!”

(12/1/09) Note that the jeep has lived its entire life in Wenatchee. The original ad listed this as completely original. While it’s got a few extra addons, I suspect it is mostly original.

UPDATE: this is back on eBay
This CJ-2A appears to be a stock VEC CJ-2A with a serial number of 38965. What makes this CJ interesting is that it is being sold by the second owner of the Jeep, the Jeep has matching numbers, and it’s a column shift. What’s more interesting is that according to the CJ-2A site, column shifts were discontinued at number 38221. So, it’s possible that this is one of the last column shift CJ-2As made. Am I missing something?
“Low mileage – 64264 actual miles. I am the second owner of this Jeep. I have owned the Jeep since 1976. This CJ-2A has all matching serial numbers, including the tag on the front frame horn.
This flatfender Jeep is an early 1946 model. It has the original timing chain equipped Go-Devil flathead 4 cylinder engine and column shift 3 speed manual transmission. The engine was rebuilt in the 1980s by my father and me. The engine was bored 0.030 over, hardened valve seats were installed on the exhaust valves and the head was milled 0.020. It has approximately 15,000 miles since the rebuild. Has original “military standard” oil filter and oil bath air filter. Also is equipped with a NAPA top cylinder oiler. Electrical system is 6 volt negative ground. The Jeep has not been run in over a year and will need to be trailered or trucked. It will need a new battery.
The driveline is all original with the addition of a Warn “All Range” overdrive unit. The orignal column shift 3 speed transmission shifts solidly and does not pop out of second gear on deceleration as many of these older jeeps are prone to do. Transfer case is original 2 speed and shifts great. The rear axle is a Dana 41 and the front axle is a closed knuckle Dana 25. Gear ratio is 5.38…. ”
