Sunglasses required to look at this truck!  It’s a bright one.  I can appreciate a seller telling it like it is.   The seller did the painting and notes “I did the painting, there is no bondo under the paint. Sorry the paint is not great.”

“1955 Willys Jeep pickup, This is a pretty straight pickup.  The paint is bright, but rough.  Someone put a 351-C6 in this pickup, but did a lousy job.  They butchered the firewall and front differential pinion shaft.  It is in there and seems to run good.  Please ask questions ahead of time, I will do my best to answer them,  i will also try to get you any photos you want, feel free to ask.”

The seller indicates this is a ’59, however a potential buyer (see Q/A at bottom of ebay page) felt that based on the speedometer design, this was more likely a ’56.  I’d agree with the potential buyer, because this document indicates that the serial number of this jeep, 56337 10425, makes this a 1956 DJ-3A, the 425th DJ-3A made.

“This is a 1959 Willys Jeep 2 wheel drive Gala Surrey or Dispatcher project.  These are rare and valuable vehicles when they are restored, but this one isn’t.  It needs A LOT of restoration, but what’s here is in fairly good shape.  It would make a good starting point for a restoration.  Fortunately, these are not too hard to work on.  I bought this many years ago and have slowly been collecting a few parts, but I have too many projects and not enough time or money.  This project has to go.  This is a body & frame and axles and some parts.  There is no motor or transmission.  I have a correct type motor and correct column shift T 96 transmission with overdrive, but they are listed seperately on ebay and not included with this listing (see my other listings).  The guy I got it from had started to convert it to a 6 cylinder motor and was going to make a sand buggy out of it.  He removed the original motor mounts and put some other mounts in, but I don’t know what engine they are for.  He didn’t do any significant damage to the frame, and the correct motor mounts should go right back on the frame”

The drain holes have been plugged, which I suspect means there’s been some work done on the passenger and driver’s side areas of the body.

Here’s a CJ-2A that has the spare tire on the driver side and the bow holders on the passenger side.  I see no evidence to indicate this was a military vehicle or a military ambulance.

“I am selling a 1948 Willys for a friend of mine.  It runs good, all tires hold air, and it’s fun to drive around the farm.  It has a clear missouri title.  He was told that it used to be a military ambulance.  I have posted several pics of it, but I can get all the pics you need, so just send me an email and tell me what you would like to see. Some of the folks over at the ww2talk.com website had a discussion regarding the Museo Storico Piana delle Orme – Latina (Italy).    The museum describes itself as a “historical theme park designed to accommodate one of the largest and most diverse collections in the world: planes, tanks, locomotives, wagons, radio, weapons and hundreds of military vehicles, agricultural tractors, threshers, trams and coaches, tools and thousands of objects of all types and sizes. Dedicated to the twentieth century, the Museum is a journey through 50 years of Italian history. 14 themed to tell the traditions and culture of the peasant, the great works of improvement, the Second World War but also to show the vehicles and means at the dawn of industrialization and great toys with which children entertained themselves.”

For the purposes of ewillys, the highlight of the trip might just be the opportunity to check out these two modified flatties a little closer (ok, hopefully we could find many more highlights as well!)

In the foreground, we have a MB that has been converted into a tow truck.  Behind, and to the left, is a jeep with a water tank(?) on the back of it.  Maybe a water transporter?  This photo was taken by “Captain Bill”.

Doing some research on Warn hubs this morning, I ran across this image on Warn’s corporate website.  This may very well be  the original Warn Motor’s Service station in Seattle, Washington, where Arthur Warn developed his early ‘Summer Hubs’ as Mike refers to them.  Note the signs atop the roof, “Jeeps”  and “Warn Motors”.

If there were just one of these trucks, i would call it a custom one-off project.  However, two of these suggest to me this was a kit of some kind?  It kind of looks like the prototype for the Willys we have named a Tender.

I wish I had found a complete picture of this truck from Camden, NJ, but it appears we’ll have to make due with a partial image.  I think that’s supposed to be a wooden typewriter on top. Here’s the original link.
