The flattie looks to be a M-38, so the year should be 1950 or later. The other I’m guessing to be a M-38a1. It’s a bizarre parking job.
“The red jeep ran when i got it 5yrs ago. The drive train worked good too. It has a title. The yellow jeep has the motor taken out of it and is in the back of it same with the front clip. The drive train is good on it though. It dosent have a title. I was gana take the two and make on nice one. And take the rest of the other one and make a trailer for it. I will bring them to denver for you for an extra 300. If you have any questions feel free to ask @ mrdobrinski@gmail.com”
This jeep runs on propane. It’s got some good mods too.
“46 CJ-2A Flatfender Jeep. Body is solid with a few dings and dents does have scratches from the trails, motor is solid and was rebuilt a few years ago and is set-up on propane. If you don’t think it’s worth it make a offer I can be reached at tbrooks42@gmail.com or by phone 662-322-8503”
I’m wondering if this is a VEC and maybe not a WWII body.
“1946 Willy’s Jeep CJ-2A, Complete Jeep but Not Running, Soft Top with Doors, WWII Body on CJ-2A Frame/Running Gear, All Original Parts/Complete Engine and Accessories, Have 2nd ’46 2A Advertised on C.L. Will take $950.00 for Both, Call Todd – 706.633.6072″
There’s got to be at least some value here. That rear almost looks like it has a full floating set up.
This was my 4×4 project until I got sick. It has a REAL strong 4 speed, chev 6 that runs, Dana front end and rear end. It just has no wiring right now, but it is a great project or parts vehicle. Priced to sell FAST. (425) 971-1769 cell, Please no text message Todd needs a good home with someone willing to finish my dream project”
UPDATE: Price dropped to $1500
(06/08/09) This is an MB mixed with an 80’s Toyota of some type?
“1942 Willys with Toyota running gear (Engine a 22R, 4 speed manual tranny, tranfer case and axles are all out of an ealry 80’s Toyota). Tires are 38 inch Gumbo Monster Mudders Radials, siped with 60-70% tread left. This rig is open front and rear with stock gears and keeps up with fully locked, re-geared rigs. It is a pure mountain machine, its light, very flexy and extremely capable in mud and snow. I would consider selling the jeep for less without the tires but will not sell the tires without the jeep.”
UPDATE: **Status Unknown** Was $3495
(09/12/09) This is a Shriner’s jeepster.
“4 cyl. 3speed overdrive, runs good, old parade car”
Steve tells me he spotted this M-38 on eWillys and decided to purchase it last July. On the right you can see the ‘before’ condition which is how Steve purchased it, but I think it pretty much tells the story. There was a bunch of metal welded onto the jeep in odd places and it was red, everywhere.
As you can see in the pics below, just taking off the metal and painting it green has done wonders for this old M-38.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $16000
(Sept 19, 2009) “Ford GPW, tub off restoration to motor pool specs. I’ve had this jeep for three years and have driven it very little. Date of delivery is Nov. 30, 1942. I have spent a lot of time and money on it but I’m getting too old and just don’t have that much time for it. I’m asking $18,000 OBO. I don’t know how to post pictures so if interested you can come by and see it, email me with questions, or call me and ask questions. It is in lusterless O.D. and Marine Corps markings. It has five combat rims and Ford marked military tires.”
UPDATE: I dropped by the seller’s house today to check this jeep out. Kim’s father is the actual seller and Kim is selling it for him. Both father and son rebuild wagon’s, with Kim specializing in Sheep Wagons (see pic to the right). I suspect the large Basque population in southern Idaho (5th largest community of Basques in the world) fosters this unusual hobby (at least I’ve never seen these anywhere else).
As for the jeep, it turns out to be a pretty stock M-38 that runs. It’s got some rough edges and needs some paint. It’s got the dual battery setup. It could use new seat covers and a new gas tank and a few other items. A professional mechanic has done some work on it and can provide more specific information.
I gotta say I like this jeep. There’s enough old school stuff to make me smile. Check out the battery, the roll cage, the art on the back, the dashboard, the gauges, the gas pedal … I could go on.
The owner of this jeep is 16 year old Trevor, who inherited it from his father. Trevor’s going to make some updates to this jeep, such as adding power steering. He asked for some advice regarding steering so naturally I asked for pictures.
Trevor wrote, “thanks so much for your time and advice! it really means a lot to me cause i wanna get this thing out on the trails like my dad did back in day.”
This has an unusual paint job.
“What we have here is a 1946 willys with a 305 engine in it .. it has dana 44 rear with 488 gears, detroit locker dana 27 488 in front. new suspension shocks and stabelizers. 305 has wiend stealth intake with new edelbrock 600, engine has a sig erson mild cam with headers. The trans and transfer case are Dana t 90 steering is Jeep 1946. Also it has 33×12.50 tires on it .. Its been painted white with purple a few years back so showing some wear but good hunting wagon or just good transportation .. I have only what you see no more meaning no top or doors etc. any more pics or questions call me at 620 360 4482 or email me at countryside@elkhart.com”
Except for that bump in the hood, this looks like it was a good solid build. Non runner now.
“Started to rebuild and ran out of time. Two bodies 2 trannys, transfer cases. Everthing must go. Need more room in shop. $3500.00 takes it all..”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $300
This looks good except for the chunk missing from the dashboard.
“1953 Willys CJ-3B Jeep Body with hood, windshield frame, and grille. Great body for rock crawler project. Thanks for taking a look I will Delete post when item is sold.”

This looks to be a reasonable price.

UPDATE: Was $4800.
It looks like a great old M-38.
“This is a good running and driving jeep. Most of the military equipment is present and in good condition. 4 cylinder flat head 134 C.I. “Go Devel” engine with correct MC serial number. Borg/Warner T98 transmission & T18 transfer case. 24 volt electrical system, water proof ignition system, all blackout and convoy lights work, radium face’s on gauges, dataplates and body I.D. tag in great condition including plate for fording cable, fuel filler neck extension, engine lift bracket, master cylinder heat shield, fittings for fuel primer, vented for fording kit, headlight guards, mounts for rifle scabbord on windshield, original Scheller steering wheel (but it’s cracked), spare wheel mount, 5 correct rims, trailer receptical, footman loops and top bow stoage brackets, rear seat mounts, pioneer tool mounts, pintel hitch….”
I ran across this Bantam website the other day. Its full of pics of a single Bantam. I love the Bantam multi gauge.
There’s not much information on the website. This is all there is: “Less than 3000 Bantam Jeeps were produced. This B.R.C. 40 is #2649. The date of delivery was “June, 1941”. Fewer than three dozen of these classics have been fully restored and this, I believe, is one of the best! Be sure and check out the additional pages of pictures of this Bantam listed below”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3680.
This sounds like someone who bought this jeep, painted it green, made sure it was mechanically ok, and is selling it.
“Title: Clear Engine: 4 Cylinder Exterior color:Green Transmission:Manual Fuel type:Gasoline Interior color:Green Options 4-Wheel drive Steering checked out, new master cylinder, brakes were adjusted and check out with no problems. Strong engine with good oil pressure, cold natured, so it needs choking until warmed up, but when warm, just bump starter and she fires right up, after 500 mile trailer ride there was only one small oil spot underneath it, it’s what we call “marks it territory very little”, shifts smooth, does NOT jump out of second gear, 4 wheel drive works great, has 5 new 7:00 X 16″ NTD (means non-directional tread, pulls just as good in reverse as forward ) 6 ply tires and tubes on original 16″ CJ rims, has WWII style fender blackout with NOS 6 volt blub (has voltage reducer) …”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $3500.
This looks nice and close to stock.
“1950 Willy’s CJ. 4cylinder, 3spd with 2spd transfer case. Runs and drives great! $3500.”
It doesn’t run. I suspect it’s the type of project where a lot needs to be replaced.
“1948 Willys Jeep with 289 ford motor. It currently doesn’t run, family owned since 1950, would make a great rebuild project. Make reasonable offer. 1-231-663-6029.”
UPDATE: Still Available
(08/10/09) Here’s a very early CJ-3A with a serial number of # 12041
“1949 Willys Jeep-CJ 3A, 62,000 miles, PTO winch – tow bar – roll bar – warn locking hubs – half cab with doors, 4 cy Jeep engine – 6 volt system – This Jeep was purchased by my father in 1960 as a hunting vehicle. It has the original running gear with the exception of the engine which was changed several years ago. All gauges are functional. Diamond plating was added on lower sides of body and new steel panels to floor of cab. Seats have been re-done. It was originally white then painted blue then green. Although there are some small rust areas, it has been under cover all through his ownership as well as mine. Noel 360-521-4163 nsplawn@netzero.net”
Sometime next week I hope to be bending my roll cage with my home-made tubing bender. I’m waiting for the die to get here still. I’m also waiting for the delivery of my windshield and cowl rubber so that I can get my windshield all ready to go. In the meantime, I’ve been busy updating the website and doing a few things to the jeep.
One of those things was the installation of my brodie knob. I discovered I could cut down a piece of rubber that I think was used by my dad when he installed his CJ-5 body on it’s frame. It was the perfect thickness, so I cut it down, shaped it and installed it. It’s nice and tight. Here’s a few pics.
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $15,000
Looks great!
