Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. I ran across a story on G503 about the creation of a Nuffield Airborne Jeep in Australia. The details of the build are great!

(11/22/2010) This looks like a worth project for the price (it doesn’t sound like there’s much to do)
“I got this on a trade I had visions of making a finished hot rod with it but I just dont have the time anymore. Its mounted and channeled over a S-10 frame with the 4.3 liter engine still in it. The engine still runs but there is no gas tank installed. There is a pretty fair amount of metal fab left, but if you have the skills needed for this project it would make a cool ride. There is minimal rust left on the body. The old floor was rotted out and a new floor put in by the previous owner. I have some more pics if needed. This is located in Broadhead WI which is about 1/2 hour west of Beloit , WI. I live in Sycamore, IL so anyone wanting to see will need to make arrangement with me to look at it.”

“This is a fully original 1949 Willy’s with clean title, civilian model with 12volt electric. Jeep has extesnion on back that can be taken off to reduce price. This Jeep has been great around the ranch and does need some body work. 16″ wheels but can trade out for 15″ both with desent tires. Breaks and front wheel cylender rebuit. “The original L 134 “Go Devil” 4 cylinder engine runs great. The 4 wheel drive works good also. I added WARN locking hubs, Optima 6V battery, had the brake system professionally redone, and other work that I will give the complete history on to serious buyers. Most of the jeep I believe is still original vintage. The tub has a few rust spots here and there, but still pretty solid overall. Fold down windshield has plexiglass that is scratched but still usable for road wind / rain block when you need it. Underneath there are some drips and leaks from some seals and gaskets, but nothing serious. Would make a good fix up hobby jeep for somebody mechanically inclined, or to use as is, as I have done.

(01/24/2012) This appears in good condition. This has an unusual front carrier.
“1946 Willys CJ-2A, fully restored from the frame up about 8 years ago. It still runs perfectly. It would work as a daily driver, as long as you don’t need to move too fast. I have a bimini/bikini top for it as well. Everything you see goes with it. Everything works, but the as gauge. Never really needed it to work, just planned ahead. It has been converted to 12 volt, so it always starts. Please no BS; this is my toy and I would like to sell it, not give it away. Please email me with questions and further information.”
It appears solid. The dash plate isn’t installed.
