Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “OK. Here is the situation. We had this Jeep sold twice before but the buyers backed out. The reason is because we can’t find the title and the registration doesn’t match with the MVD records. The new owner would have to do an abandoned vehicle search and get a new title that way. We do not have the time to research all of this so we are willing to let it go at a cheaper price. This Jeeps blue book value is over $6000.
1946 Willy’s CJ2A Jeep. All original with added top. 6 volt system. Flathead 4-cylinder. RARE 3 speed on the column shifter. Original seat frames included. 16 in wheels. Been in the same family it’s entire life, 3rd owner in family. Spare tire. We started it a few days ago and drove it around but it does need a little TLC. More pictures available. Price is $2200.”

This includes a PTO Winch. It’s dusty, but this looks like a good restoration candidate.
“1952 Willys CJ-3A – bone stock and in great shape. I bought this to do a frame off restoration, since it is 100% original – still even has the foot rod starter. The L4 flathead engine runs, but smokes a bit.
Still the original 6V, has the PTO winch, Harrison heater, and has a solid body with with minimal rust. Had a hardtop on it, so the floors are very good. Clear title. Stored in my garage”

“1949 Willys Jeep. It’s all original, it has 3 speed transmission and is 4 wheel drive. Due to it’s age, it is being sold AS IS with no warranties. It also comes with a clean and clear title, and is currently tagged and inspected. It has a rear main seal leak that needs to be fixed, but it still runs good. We had a blast in it last summer, just riding the back roads and enjoying life.I’m going to miss it, but I have too many cars & horses, and something has to go! Bidding ended on this truck, though the starting price was $26,000! It’s a nice looking truck you could keep at your Puerto Rico Beach Mansion.

The seller lists this as a 1955, but then notes it is a GPW.

This appears to be an early GPW since I don’t see the indent on the top of the GPW grille.

UPDATE: There’s been some discussion about the engine not being stock on the ebay ad. The stock inline 6 would have been an L 166 ‘lightning’ from what i have read. However, the engine looks so nice in there, I don’t think it matters that it isn’t original.
Here’s a beautiful car that comes with a matching coffee mug.
“This is a very nice Jeepster that has just completed a very thorough cosmetic restoration to high standards. It was totally rust free having been in southern California all its life. Last year the owner brought me a coffee mug from a café in San Diego and he told me “Restore my Jeepster to match this mug. I love the color!” I think we succeeded.
The Jeepster body was disassembled down to the body tub which was left on the chassis as the floors were perfect. Body work was performed as required and the beautiful green paint was applied, color sanded and polished. It is stunning. Fenders were painted off the car to get a nice finish under the hood. The black second color was done the same way. We repainted the interior and dash as well.
The rare factory original OHV six cylinder engine was cleaned and painted having been previously rebuilt and in great running condition. This is a much more desirable engine than the four which is most Jeepsters. The transmission is a three speed with overdrive. Brakes were recently redone and work great. Tires are recent and are Coker white walls with a newer spare to match. Exhaust is great. Shocks are all new and the front suspension was totally rebuilt.
The top and side curtains are all brand new in a tan color that offsets the green and black to perfection. Top frame was repainted. The seats are older but in great shape and are black to match the trim. Steering wheel is new reproduction ….”

The engine needs a head gasket replaced.
“Selling a nice project car to make way for another. It’s a rare 1951 Willys Jeepster that is reported to be one of the last off the assembly line. It has a 6 cylinder f-head 161 cubic inch engine in it that runs but needs work (head gasket). Also has an overdrive transmission for good fuel economy. Odometer shows 80K miles. Has radio and heater … The Jeepster is in overall good condition. I bought it a few years ago from a fellow in West Virginia with the intent to restore to original. Another car’s caught my eye so this has to go … The front floors have been patched, the rears are good as-is. The body has minor rust but is very workable. The frame and suspension are in great shape with just the average surface scale. All lights work.”

(02/09/2010) Here’s a nice a Wagon.
“1959 Willys just turned 100 thousand miles. 4-Wheel without overdrive. Third owner. Purchased new in Denver then lived in Moscow for twenty something years before being sold to second owner some eight miles away. First owner changed the generator over to an alternator. Other than that no foolish “improvements.” Second owner had it also for twenty or so years and I have had it since. None of us have abused this marvelous machine in any way. Original engine and drivetrain and just about everything else but the battery and tires. Second owner rebuilt the engine about thirty thousand miles ago. No oil use. Performs as new. Cruises at sixty without any unstability or wander or excess rpm demand. NOT restored to show car condition but finished quite nicely for use with no ugly surprises. I installed a new gas gauge sender a year or so ago and it works just fine until yesterday when I put some gas in and the gauge dropped to zero. I care not to take the time now to troubleshoot it. This Willys is about as close in appearance and original working condition to when it was new as one is likely to find outside of a museum. No, the paint is not original but done about two years ago by a show car body shop. The body is not flawless as I elected to preserve the car with its history of only the fewest of dings yet if it were flawless it would most surely not be driven for fear of scratching it. This is a user and cruiser. Solid throughout. I am pleased to answer any questions or send additional photos though do not waste my time if you are not seriously prepared to buy and I will not waste yours. Located in downtown Palouse adjacent to St. Elmos Hotel on Main Street directly across from the tavern. Available for viewing just about any time or day though please do not just stop by to do anything other than hands-off looking without an appointment. This looks like a very nice wagon, but the hood doesn’t look like it quite fits right in the front (or maybe it’s an optical illusion).

“1962 Willy Jeep for restoration. I believe it is a CJ3B flat finder, high hood. It has a clear title and ran before it was put in storage. The transmision and four wheel drive were all working how ever the motor is now stuck. Body has rust and a few holes but the mount and frame are good. The floor board has only a few small holes but the bottom of the bed is gone. The top is good and it has doors as well. Most of the glass is bad or gone. I put lub in the cyclinders and I’m sure you can get the motor to run.There is no reserve and must be paid for at end of sale and pick up with in 30 days Thanks.”

“Very rare (less than 400 believed to ever have been produced, and only a handful raimaining). Kaiser built these for the military based on the Forward Control Willys platform and powered by a Cerlist diesel engine. The engine, transmission, and transfercase are missing from this rare survivor. Survivor may be a strong word considering how beat up this example is. Nearly very door and body panel is beat up in some fashion. The irony is that this is a relativley rust-free example of a Forward Control Jeep. The floors and structural body componenets are solid and strong.
This truck comes with a solid and straight civilian cab and doors that can be used to rebuild this ultra-rare crewcab body. It has the military bumpers and grill guard. The military garages are gone. I have a civilian dash to go with it. It is missing the rear seat, and has no glass.
