Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1950 Willys CJ-3A civilian jeep 4×4. We used for hunting and lake vehicle. Original 4 cylinder engine – rebuilt in 1998 – yearly driven miles = 2-15. Starts right up – definately under-used. my uncle put in a heater, bought the canvas top/doors etc.. supposedly did axle work, clutch , driveshaft replacements and misc other stuff when he rebuilt engine and put on new carb. 12 Volt system now. Rust in several areas – but been here in Dry New Mexico for quite a while. Headlights not working ( switch?) but tail lights are fine – no turn signals.
Extra parts included – whatever i can find anyway.”

This is a good looking CJ-3A. The seller is a bit off with the note regarding this as the ‘last year of production of the WWII model.

“This Jeep had an off the frame complete restoration done. It has the original 4-cyclinder engine, new transmission, and a rebuilt transfer case. Also, has new brakes, hoses, springs arched, radiator, and carburetor. The original lights and horn are 12-volt. The Jeep does have lock-out hubs. Jeep is winter green with black interior seats. Jeep has the original working heater and metal Koenig top with doors. Jeep has approximately 300 miles on it since restoration. This Jeep is in excellent original condition with new tires and is ready to go”

“Got this Willy’s jeep from my brother several years ago with the dream of rebuilding it…… Well, wife says my time is up.
It was running right before I got it, just smoked a little so my brother took the engine out to rebuild it and that’s where this project has been for some time now. Engine is sitting inside the cab, tranny and driveline are still in. Everything seems to be original. Hate to see one of my dreams go, but reality seems to be taking over. Will dig the title out and find out if it is a 3a or 3b and what model year. $1200obo come take a look!”

Here’s a beautiful restoration.

-Restored to look original with non-original parts. Most parts were purchased from Beachwood Canvas.
-New steel tub from Willys Overland
-New seat cushions/upholstery – New rear seat from CJ3A
-Restored odometer (reading 44K), oil pressure gauge, gas guage. I have the other gauges but they need to be restored, and have new guages in place for now.
-Original style cloth covered wiring harness.
-Original 6V system. Rebuilt generator, rebuilt starter. Electricals work very well.
-Original oil-bath air filter.
-New brakes, new brake lines, new master cylinder.
-New clutch.
-New exhaust
-New windshield, rubber new.
-Jeep starts great, runs and stops as it should, no problems.”

(08/20/2010) Looks pretty stock. Something’s been added to the front near the grille, but I can’t tell why.
“This classic 1952 Willys jeep has brand new tires, and I had a mechanic do over $8,000.00 worth of work on it. It has a top, and I have the two doors that came with the top that have not yet been installed. I also have other jeep parts I will include with the sale. It is registered and runs.”

The seller of the body has thrown in a running CJ-3A for combo price of $2500. I have to say, I’d really like this combo. I think that’s a good price.
