(01/18/2014) I don’t often see a Capstan Winch on a CJ-5.
“Up for sale is a 1959 Willys Cj-5 with a rare Braden J-2 Capstan winch. The jeep runs and drives great but the brakes are inop. Trans/t-case are in working order. The engine starts right up and runs great with the exception of the exhaust needing to be replaced. The Capstan winch is complete and operates smoothly. The winch is correct for a WWII Willys Mb or Ford Gpw and would look great on your restoration. It can also be left on the Jeep like it is currently for that oopsy when you get stuck on the trail. “This is a very rare authentic 1973 Jeep CJ-5 “Super Jeep.” It has been meticulously restored to original specifications and details. It has its original factory issued 304 V8 with power steering and power brakes. These were rare options at the time this model was produced. Most of the Super Jeeps had 258 6 cylinder engines with manual steering and brakes. It was last registered and inspected in August of 2012 and still continues to run and drive great.
There is not a lot of information available on the Super Jeep other than the copies of a few articles written about them at the time, They were only manufactured for one year in 1973 and it is rumored that only a few hundred of the models were made.
Everything works besides the gas and oil pressure gauge. I’m not sure why but the previous owner reset the odometer during restoration so the actual mileage of the Jeep is unknown. Since the restoration, 420 miles have been put on it. The Jeep does not have a roof, and the original style white soft top is almost impossible to find. However, there are many aftermarket soft tops that can be fitted for this CJ-5.”

(04/20/2014) This includes an early Belleview winch. Was the chrome piece on the hood some kind of aftermarket item? It seems to fit pretty well.

“Excellent running Willy’s with F-head 4-cyl. Electronic distributor, K&N type filter. New tires and clutch disk. It has factory lockers front and rear for true 4-wheel drive. Lockouts and clear title in my name. There is a tow bar for it. I have all the factory original parts. I will not move much on this price. It might take a while to get back to you…please be patient. The odometer reads 11,800. And, it looks like it could really be low miles. Might be worth a closer look. Not sure why the tailgate is a different color than the body (though the tailgate seems to match the dash.
“This is a well kept, hard to find Jeep. I have original title, was used to maintain driveway of roller rink for many yrs, then stored many more. Actual mileage is 11800+. The engine is the std jeep engine from that yr. Runs quietly, etc. Has hydraulic lift for plow. I also have that plow if interested. Body is very good for a vehicle of 58 yrs. Insured appraisal at time of my purchase was 7500. If you are looking for a great old vehicle to work on or just bum around in this is for you.”

“just testing the waters, she ran when she was parked almost 30 years ago, she has the v5 225 dauntless v6 engine very hard to find one stock and original, they were only in some cj5’s from ’66-’71, I plan on pulling her out and cleaning her up once the snow clears, probably won’t get rid of her, unless price is right or I think trade is worth it, don’t give me a bogus price offer, and I won’t trade for any crap.”
