(12/04/09) Here’s a relatively low mileage CJ-5. You gotta love the Sears ‘Winch’.
“1961 Jeep Willys CJ5 4×4 2.2 liter, 68,000 Original miles, New Battery and Muffler within last month. New Black top worth $1000 2 years ago, fully tuned up weeks ago, This thing runs like a champ!!! This includes a PTO and snow plow. Looks like a good price. I haven’t see too many of the Bonanza II hardtops.

The price might be good on this. I can’t tell if there’s rust across the rear bottom of the windshield or if that’s just an illusion.

Interior is pretty much gone, body has rust, not the prettiest thing but parts wise and mechanically there is alot of good value here. It needs brakes, battery, radiator, maybe carb rebuild, knowledge and some time. Would be great for parts or with effort a good plow truck

Hog forwarded this auction. Bidding just ended on this CJ-5 previously owned by Bing Crosby, reaching a high of $5850. I suspect it will be back on eBay at some point.
“Barn stored since 1973. Perfect running condition. Originally used on Rising River Ranch by the Crosby Cattle Co. Owned by Bing Crosby from new until 1973. All original, but seats and turn signal assembly. As you can see in the pictures the cosmetics are not perfect, but are easily fixed. This thing could climb a wall! “This is a 1955 Jeep CJ5.. VERY RARE and Very nice conditon Hardtop and doors. HY-LO hyd plow, running F-head motor. I purchased this Jeep as a plow vehicle but have moved on to other pursuits. 2 known issues… The Carb floods the engine. The gaskets are either dry rotted or the carb needs to be rebuilt or replaced.. New ones are $100.. The frame is cracked right infront of the passenger rear wheel. It can be patched, ($50) but a Good condition used frame is included in the price. Brakes work great. The jeep can be ready to plow for $150… Bill of sale only..”
Brett spotted this ad. There is one parts jeep and two running jeeps, though each of the running jeeps has issues.
“I have 3 cj5 jeeps for sale. A 60,62,63 F-head 4cyl style. I bought them for a project but due to my disabilities Its hard to work on them anymore.The 1960 Is all original and runs but has a rod knock.I shut it down right away when it happened to save further damage. It has the hard top with the doors. Original front Seats(full bench) have been recovered. I have title for it.
I bought a 1962(Dont have title so thats the best date I can give of 62 jeep) with the 4 cyl. F-head that is supposed to be good. It’s a parts jeep.
I also bought a 1963,(with title) that has been modified with a 6 cyl. the firewall had to be cut to fit the engine. It runs well but has some leaks. It has a hard top with no doors. All original except the engine,and seats have been replaced with high back bucket seats. The rear seat in it was taken out of a subaru brat. Has roll bar. New gas tank. will be a good runner with a little work. I also have 1 spare 4 cyl F-head engine in the garage that is froze up, but complete for parts. just sat in the elements too long or so I was told from the seller.”

This appears to be a time capsule stuck in the desert. It will need some work, but appears pretty straight (except for the bumper).

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $250
There’s some value in the parts.
“I bought this from an acquaintance who needed the money. It would make a cool project, but not for me. I’m from the west where this kind of rust means the vehicle is long gone. Since moving here I’ve heard people describe this condition as “restorable” or “just a lot of surface rust”. Yeah, except both sides of each surface have rusted to form holes. It ran as of a year ago when I parked it here in the weeds, but while taking pictures I noticed the carb has been uncovered all year. It has push button start, and sounded like it was running on 3 of 4 cylinders when it ran. Plenty of blue smoke to entertain the neighbors with.
Before too long it will get hauled to the salvage yard, it’s worth $250 in steel to me, hence the price. But I’d rather see it go to someone who’ll use it or at least parts of it. I have a clear title from 1989. Brake line is missing, carb leaks fuel. It might be handy for some extra parts though, the grill and hood are decent, and there’s an extra grill included. It also has the PTO drive included. I have no idea if it’s complete, I just know I have a small steel pan with gears in it that bolts to the underside to run a PTO. I also have the original Willys tailgate, which would make a better garage decor than a tailgate because of rust. But it looks cool. The tires in the back are from my Ranger, they are about the same size as the Jeep’s and in better condition, they’ll go with the Jeep also.”
