Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. This seems like a reasonable price for an updated, trail ready jeep. The windshield looks like it’s a CJ-3A windshield, but it is flat. I wonder if there was some custom work done on it.

Final Update: Originally priced at $2800, the seller dropped the price to $1000, but changed the ad so that it was difficult to find. Eventually, the seller made good on his claim and it was given to the Youth Ranch (I missed it by two days, otherwise I would have bought it for $1000). I haven’t seen it since.

Not many specifics on this flattie. I’m gonna bet this is a CJ-3A. Looks pretty old school, especially those tires. From this pic it appears the front springs are reversed.

When some one gives you a jeep for free and you have to pull the jeep out of the mud to start rebuilding it, you know you are going to have your hands full. Irwin Arnstein nicely revives this old Jeep.
"When my brother’s neighbor T.J. generously gave me his old 1959 1-ton truck, I felt that I ought to do a good job with it and show it to him. As you could see on my Gallery page, it brought T.J. a bit of pleasure to see his truck ready for another 46 years of work. A few months later (and I think after his wife got on him to clean the place up) he gave me his 1947 CJ2A Willys Universal Jeep.
When I got the truck, I had no idea that the Jeep would soon get so lonely that it spoke to T.J. about rejoining its old compatriot. I wasn’t so keen to do the jeep but when my brother offered to help, I decided "Why not — if it wasn’t a complete junk pile."

James asked me to post this CJ-2A for him. Some of the upgrades he doesn’t mention in the ad include swing pedals with a hydraulic clutch, trusses on the front and rear axles, and reversed front springs.

I'm guessing 'thin floorboard' = rusty floorboards? No obvious modifications or damage.
"All original except farmer modified bumpers. Axles, tranny, Transfer case, and entire engine compartment is original and all there. Body is very strait except floor boards are pretty thin. Give me a offer I need to sell."
Mike got a deal on a $530 CJ-3A, but buying it was the easy part. Mike's built an extensive website called Jeepchasm that follows his extensive rebuild from a cheap deal to best of show.

Jeeps with these beautiful type of paint jobs, much more common a couple decades ago, have become rare. However, the paint job isn't the only well done item. The engine compartment is nicely updated and organized. The fender wells were carefully modified to accomodate the headers. There's just lots to like about this jeep.

This looks to be a pretty stock jeep in great condition for only $2000. This is a deal worth checking out. Note the hood has flexed a bit.

This CJ-2A appears well maintained with a very nice, newer Auger. The jeep also sports the rare borg warner overdrive that mounts behind the transfercase output shaft. I doubt any buyer will offer the $9000 starting bid request. Post Hole Digger. Roper?

This looks to be a nice baby blue CJ-2A. Oddly, the lower part of the top slopes downward as it runs from the driver's door to the back of the jeep. Maybe the top connectors slope down on the body, but that would be odd I would think.

This looks to be the same fiberglass body as my first jeep. The seller is correct; this body is light — I used to move the body myself by crouching underneath it and picking it up on my back (my current body is somewhat heavier). However, I disagree with the seller; this body makes a fine jeeping body. But, if used for jeeping, tie a cage to the frame and use the cage to help support the body.

This jeep has been for sale for a while. The owner was asking $5000 obo, but I think now will take something lower. Looks like a great little jeep.
"This is a 1948 CJ-2A willys, Chevy 350 V8, Turbo 400 transmission Rebuilt less than 500 miles ago, Dana 18 Transfercase Rebuilt less than 500 miles ago. This is a fun little jeep. Have taken it many places Pismo Gorman ect. Does not have an overdrive top speed around 50mph. But will go up, around, through and down almost any hill you have the guts to try. Needs some work but any vehicle that old will always need tender loving care. I am getting rid of her because i got married……She has been kept in a garage and i have done alot of work to her."
Update: Price dropped to $2500
The add says '45 Willys, but the body looks to be 46 or greater, so I'm calling it a 1946 CJ-2A. It appears driver's side step isn't there, so likely some rust underneath. Also, the ad says roll bar, but it looks to be a full cage. Woodland is north of Portland.

This is a nicely modified CJ-2A called “Quick Change”. The builder built a similar drive train to what I’m doing, except for using a 289 where I’m using a buick 3.8. We even have the same rims.
“This is a jeep I picked up a while back. It has been trail riding since 1981 and has the little trail ride plates on the dash. It is a modded steel body with very little rust by some trail scars. Specs are: 1947CJ2a, Chevy 283 V8 (I was told this was a stroker…no way to prove it without dissasembly), Torker intake, Tall chevy aluminum valve covers, Edelbrock carb with the offroad needles and seats (works awesome off road)…..”
This jeep has been for sale for a few months now, but hasn’t been listed in a while.
“Here is a nice running little jeep. In stock condition with all original running gear and flathead 4 cylinder engine. Drives good and looks decent. Has had 12volt upgrade on electrical. New tires, wheels, brakes, carb, recovered seats. Has tow-bar, bikini top, and spare front axle assembly that goes with it. 4 wheel drive works great. Has some rust in the floor boards typical for this year of jeep, and passenger side windshield is cracked.
Great little rig for hunting or wheeling trails. “
I guess today is 'red jeep' day; Lots of them for sale! This stock CJ-2A still looks great. Very likely it's a good restoration candidate.

I've done just a few things to this jeep including: rebuilt starter, generator, new brake wheel cylinders and a couple of other little things. It does leak oil and pops out of second every once in a while. The heater does not work, but did when I first got it…."
The package looks good but I doubt the price will hold. Neither the body nor the windshield is CJ-2A, so there’s some mixed and matched parts.

There's a number of nice detail pictures that show some nice work. Note the modern running gear (likely mid 70s CJ-5 running gear). I can't say I'm a fan of the tranny/tc mount — it's a single bar that just waiting to be hit by a rock. It most definitely needs a skid plate of some kind. I think the body is fiberglass, but I"m not entirely sure.

This is probably being sold by a seller who has been trying to sell a couple other nicely finished jeeps and stainless jeep parts.

I find this jeep slightly puzzling. I love the nice detail and old school upgrades — the full roll cage, the extra large windshield, a good front bumper mod, the nice paint job, updated seats — yet it still sports an F-head? This jeep looks like it should go fast, but can’t.
