This might be a good price on a little used Jeep.

“This is a beautifully restored Willys CJ5. The following is a partial list of new items on a fresh restoration: Windshield frame and glass, wiring, horn and steering wheel, recored original radiator, seats for both front and back, headlights, tailights and housings, turn signal and column switches, waterpump, pulley and belt, stainless dual winshield wiper motors with blades, all gaskets are new, new Solex carb for trouble-free running, (original carb saved) all new brakes and cylinders, 5 new Grabber At tires, the list goes on and the receipts total way over the asking price. There’s some value in the parts.
“I bought this from an acquaintance who needed the money. It would make a cool project, but not for me. I’m from the west where this kind of rust means the vehicle is long gone. Since moving here I’ve heard people describe this condition as “restorable” or “just a lot of surface rust”. Yeah, except both sides of each surface have rusted to form holes. It ran as of a year ago when I parked it here in the weeds, but while taking pictures I noticed the carb has been uncovered all year. It has push button start, and sounded like it was running on 3 of 4 cylinders when it ran. Plenty of blue smoke to entertain the neighbors with.
Before too long it will get hauled to the salvage yard, it’s worth $250 in steel to me, hence the price. But I’d rather see it go to someone who’ll use it or at least parts of it. I have a clear title from 1989. Brake line is missing, carb leaks fuel. It might be handy for some extra parts though, the grill and hood are decent, and there’s an extra grill included. It also has the PTO drive included. I have no idea if it’s complete, I just know I have a small steel pan with gears in it that bolts to the underside to run a PTO. I also have the original Willys tailgate, which would make a better garage decor than a tailgate because of rust. But it looks cool. The tires in the back are from my Ranger, they are about the same size as the Jeep’s and in better condition, they’ll go with the Jeep also.”

UPDATE: **SOLD**
“I am the third owner of this Jeep. I have done a frame off restoration, I have pictures and receipts for everything that has been done. Frame was blasted down to bare metal and then coated with epoxy primer. Rebuilt engine with new parts and receipt for machine work that was done. New clutch, new gaskets in the transmission and transfer case. 1300 miles since rebuild on new speedometer. Led rear brake lights. lined both sides of the tub which was sprayed in by the paint shop. Rebuilt steering, new steering wheel. The list goes on and on. Basically a new 1961 Jeep. It now has a jeep roll bar and bikini top not shown in the pics. I am wanting to start another build that i just bought but need to sell this one first. Email or call, thanks for looking.”
You can’t fault the seller for honesty.
“I am selling a jeep 1967 cj5. It is a very rare tuxedo mark 4 model. Lets be clear this jeep needs some work. The brakes are untested. I had it running this summer and has some new parts on it. It has a fiberglass tub and front end. dauntless v6 with a saganaw 4 speed trans. I never drove it on the road and can not guarantee anything. HOG spotted this nice looking CJ-5, though the rear end is a little high.

Here’s an unusual CJ-5 body.

The surface of this body appears good. The windshield looks good. There might be some value here.

One day a while back I got an email from a new reader named Jan. She spotted a CJ-5 sitting in a field for $500 and had a question about the VIN# and the model. We solved the VIN question and then I learned more about how Jan acquired this Jeep.
Jan wrote, “I really didn’t buy it, just offered to get it off his farm. He had a sign on it for $500.00 or best offer. All my friends are laughing at me and indicating it’s the uglist thing they ever saw…… but I fell in love with it!”
After bartering for the Jeep, Jan managed to sell the plow locally, which meant she was actually up a few hundred dollars. However, the body was so bad she knew she had to replace it, so she located a fiberglass tub for cheap in Indiana. She has also found a local mechanic that verified the frame was in good condition and the engine should restore easily. So, hopefully, next spring Jan will be driving around in a “free” jeep. Congrats Jan!

Brett spotted this great find. It won’t stay in 3 gear (4 speed), but it sure looks like a great price. It appears the interior has been rhino lined, the brakes have been upgraded to power brakes, and it needs a bumper.

Here’s a potential parts CJ-5.
“I bought this just for the plow set up and am now re-selling the truck. No title but will give bill of sale. You can get a title for it threw a Antique mag. Engine cranks over, frame is solid, all drive train is there. Body is very rough. Comes with 3 hard doors, top is very good. Here’s a good price on some fiberglass fenders.
“Posting for a friend. These will need a minor amount of work, nothing major. I do not know exactly what year or model these fit, but appear to be early CJ?. They are 36 1/2″ overall length from the firewall to the front tip of the fender. As you can clearly see in the pics these are molded for a rounded tapered hood and the fender tips roll down in front. So these cannot possibly fit the older flat fender jeeps. It looks like there is rust on the body, but it runs and has a plow. Either the alternator needs replacing or it has a wiring problem.

The serial number suggests this is a ’59 rather than a ’71 or ’72 (http://www.jeeptech.com/models/cj-5.htm).
