Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. (04/07/2009) This is certainly an unusual GPW, complete with a Ford script body. It’s apparently street legal, though I don’t see any lights on the back.
“1942 rare ford gpw script body , paint & body in excellent condition. Custom roll cage built straight to frame. Custom tube front fenders and nerf bars alum.hood . Purple and black Mastercraft seats and seatbelts. Custom 2 x 4 tube frame with 16″ stretched wheel base, now 97″. Custom 4 link rear suspension with cantilevered Walker Evans nitrogen shocks, with air bag asist. Rubicon reversed eye spring over front springs with reverse shackle and Rubicon remote reservoir shocks……”

(04/16/2010) “Military Jeep for sale. Yes it runs! Working motor, running gear, transmission. I have video of it being driven around our yard if you are interested. I hate getting rid of it but we have too many projects going on after buying a house. Don’t want to see this rust away.
Has:
1942 Ford GPW frame, hood, windshield, grill, and other misc parts (all still have their F stamp visible)
1945 Military engine (running) with new fuel pump
1946 Willy’s tub and transmission
Needs:
– seats
– fuel tank (we just put the fuel line into a gas tank when we run it)
– drive shaft (it fell out when we flat towed it to our new place)
– tires (2 are flat though they’ll hold air long enough to tow it home or put it up on a trailer)
We sanded all the old paint off of it and it is primer gray but we never got further than that.
I have pics on a different computer. I’ll post them soon.Please note we do not have a title for it, it will be bill of sale only. According to the CHP you just need to get a VIN verification done on it (simple as bringing it down to the CHP office) and DMV will then issue title and registration.”

Small block chevy, SM465 tranny, NP205 T-Case, power steering, quick disconnect steering wheel, full cage, bucket seats, 5 point harnesses, all new wiring, new brakes, brake lines, all new axle seals, new exhaust, 37″ MTR’s, full size spare, new aluminum radiator, hoses, belts, 100amp ALT, new master cylinders, brake fluid control valve, total of 8 rock lights for night wheelin! I am selling my rig because I took a huge paycut at work and need the cash however, I am not going to give it away! I have over 12K invested in the fab work alone. This rig is one of a kind. Born in Normandy (near Saint-Lo), France, Eric says he always wanted to have a Jeep. While serving in the French Marines, he got the opportunity to drive Jeeps — In Africa and other places — which only only served to worsen his desire for a Jeep (yes, became a victim of the ‘Willys Sickness’).
Finally, in 1997, he found a 1942 GPW in the town of Carentan that needed restoration. If Eric is like the rest of us, he probably felt it would only take a year or two to restore it (I don’t have any pre-restoration pics); instead, the restoration took 7 years. However, the results speak for themselves — it’s a beautiful Jeep he named the Belly Flopper and in which he travels the countryside whenever he gets the chance.
While Eric’s family still lives in the Normandy area, Eric has moved to the central area of France, which is a bit cooler, especially in the winter. The reason Eric and I exchanged emails initially was because he was searching for a heater. I gave him some links on some newer heater options, but had no luck with any early heaters. If you know of any for sale, he still might be interested in purchase them. Just add a comment below and I’ll contact you.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2200.
It runs and drives. That’s the good. Unfortunately, the seller won’t find a ‘Ford’ logo on the back because the body has been modified with the back of a CJ-5 body. I should have started tracking these, because I’ve seen around 10 of these modified flattie/cj-5 bodies.
“I purchased this jeep last year to restore. I’ve found that I don’t have the time and it has just sat. It runs and I drove it around the block. The starter was rebuilt by the past owner but I think the starter bendix is sticking?? This is a project at this point. It needs alot of TLC but is drivable. I have the title in hand. If you have any questions please email or call. I will be as helpful to you as I can but I don’t know that much about it. It does have the Ford plackard on the dash but no ford stamp on the rear of the tub? You ask the questions and I will look and try to answer.”
