Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “You are bidding on a 1942 Slat Grill Willys mb. The serial number is MB 114517 DOD is 1/27/42 the Toe gusset # is 17920.
The Frame tag and dash data plate match.
Overall the jeep would make a great restoration project. Please take the time to go through all the pictures I’ve attempted to leave nothing out.
The jeep comes with a lot of the hard to find ORIGINAL parts such as an actual slat grill grill, Gas Gauge, 5 mph increment speedo (needs work the needle is broken), 30/30 amp guage, hinged filtertte, Rear seat, top bows, bumper, and an STL pintle.
The body is pretty straight and solid with the exception of a patch in the passenger floor board, a little rust in that passenger seam, some skimmed areas of body filler on the tub and rust out in the fuel tank sump and shovel area. The hat channels are decent but some will need a little repair. Again this is a very nice solid start (PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT THE PICTURES IN SLIDE SHOW)
The frame is very nice and has the original bumper gussets and frame tag.
The motor does run when hot wired and the jeep rolls easy. The T84 transmission transfer all seemed to function just fine.
The motor is a bit of a mystery as the boss where the serial number should be is completely unstamped. The casting at the lower part of the engine is correct for what should be in a slat so I think it would pass a two foot test and I guess you could stamp the boss with what you want if you wanted it to pass for the actual original motor. The head is an early one with the two bolt thermostat.
I do have a number of other parts that will be included such as top bow brackets, body handles, and voltage regulator; These are all pictured in the slide show which has over 160 pics. (IF IT FAILS TO LOAD THE FIRST TIME HIT REFRESH AND if you still you still have problems let me know)
Don’t miss your chance to own this great Slat grill MB project, It has a lot of the hard and nearly impossible to find parts and a ton of potential.
I do have an open clear Idaho title from the last owner and I can put it in my name if this is any what of an issue for you.”

“Refurbished 1943 Willys MB (title says Ford GPW but this IS a Willys MB.)
-1952 Kaiser straight six well mounted with military aircleaner. 110 or more compression on all 6 cylinders.
-T90 transmission with slight leak.
-Brand new military tires.
-Brand new battery,
-Brand new beachwood seat cushions (includes back seat cushion though I do not have back seat frame.)
-2/3 of wiring redone and carefully with solder.
-Bondo and fiberglass removed from body, all repairs with steel, lead filler, and brazing.
-Body stripped to bare metal.
-New Army Jeep Parts WW2 semi gloss paint.
-Original combat rim spare.
-New safety glass.
-90% of this project was done with original parts.
The Jeep looks great and we are very proud of it. Originally I bought it to break up for parts but then it ran so well we decided to save it. We stripped the body of bondo (up to 2 inches in a couple spots) and replaced all bondo and fiberglass with steel. Whole body was wirebrushed. Has incorrect rear tail lights but they sit where the reflectors should be and blend in. Someone cut a tailgate in it once, the next owner bolted a heavy panel in place across the entire rear. The large panel is not noticeable, is thick and strong, and cosmetically okay so we left that in. Has invasion star stencil along with a new number (its rebirth date), and USA markings
What it needs, speedo cable, possibly a new temperature guage, and I have not figured out the gas guage yet. The toolboxes were welded shut, and the metal was replaced over the shock towers with metal from another Jeep by a previous owner, and while shock tower repair is solid it is not cosmetically pleasing.
The vehicle runs great offroad and will pull a house down with the Kaiser 6 and T90. I have only run it short distance on hardtop.
Two months work were put into rescuing this vehicle, it would be nice for anything from parades, to reenactments, to hauling logs out of the woods. I rebuild vehicles to be durable and usable.”

“WW2 military Jeep with 1/2 cab and manual angle plow. All original including 6 volt electrical. Body has typical rust for its age but not real bad. It runs, drives and stops. I use it to plow my driveway and the neighbors. I do have another body tub,windshield frame, and fenders that’s pretty solid if someone wants to do a full resto for an additional 600 bucks.”

“1943 Willys MB SAS desert raider style restored jeep. Desert tan painted authentic. Complete with 15 gas cans (’42German can), wooden vickers k mount in center and mount for dash. Original flathead 4cyl engine. New brakes, cooling and fuel system. Restored to David Sterling’s ‘L detachment 1st SAS. I have all the receipts for all the work done includiung new brake system, fuel lines, brake lines, rebuilt engine, british gas cans, new tires, ww2 gauges, etc. I did it with historical accuracy the best I could.”

This might be a rare find for the eastern folks, however there have been a few changes.
“1941 MB “SLATGRILL” Jeep; runs fine–we have owned this jeep for the past 30 years. Engine has all Babbit bearings. It is in good condition.”
Hotchkiss’ don’t pop up for sale here in the U.S. too often. You can learn more about them on Andy’s M201 website.
“Although I’ve owned many jeeps this was my first and only Hotchkiss so I am not an expert. A few other projects force me to sell this baby. What is unbelievable bout this jeep is its condition for an unrestored jeep. It is very solid. As for the drive train it is all in excellent condition. The jeep is now riding on four combat wheels and a spare combat wheel (I think combat wheels look better than original hotchkiss wheels). The engine bay is very complete and correct. This is one of those jeeps you can enjoy for many years. During its life it has been registered and titled as an MB but from my research it is a hotchkiss which you don’t see too many of. According to the tag on the motor is say that DATE DE RECEPTION IS 2/10/63, I don’t know if that is considered to be delivery date or not but I am determining the jeep to be a 63 based on that information, if I’m incorrect feel free to email me. This jeep looks even better in person so come see it if you can. For the buy it now price I have a tandem tow bar as well as a T1 compressor that I will include. I would recommend keeping it in this condition and never restore it. I would drive this jeep anywhere in the US from California to New York, that is how good this baby runs. I am not a mechanic so, in an effort to keep everybody happy I recommend that all interested parties come see and inspect the jeep before bidding. I will consider MA, GPA or Bantam parts and manuals as partial trade towards the jeep. Good luck and happy bidding. According to the seller, who has owned this jeep for 14 years, this runs and drives good. But, it needs new brake lines because the seller never connected them? That seems a little odd.
“Great hunting jeep..or project to restore..runs and drives good. I have title. I have owned for 14 years and only used at the deer lease. Has some original parts still installed, I have the original parts that have been replaced.. water pump 1 yr old, starter rebuilt 2 yrs ago. has mud tires with lots of tread left. I have original steering wheel, it has a best top frame no top. needs new brake lines, I have never connected brakes since I have owned. This dog will hunt 4000.00 obo. I can provide more pics or serial numbers just email… Also has limited rust..some bullet holes but I do not know the history..Definetly need to come see”

The year on the hood of this jeep appears to read 1941, but the ad is for a 1942 MB. Probably an oversight, but just saying …
“you will not find a better conditioned willys army jeep than this… all original matching numbers 1942 willys jeep.. this vehicle has never been registered or even driven on a road..it has been professionally restored. its has 72 original miles ….yes just 72 as it just sits around in a climate controlled aircraft hangar and is occassionaly driven on the airfield.. it is in mint condition with no dirt of any kind on it.”
