Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1942 agra jeep tow truck, PTO winch system. It’s been sitting long time doesn’t run fully welded cab with doors tow hitch.  I have the tow bar for the back for the tow truck part. No I will not trade.”
This November 1955 issue points out service bulletin 302 (have to look to see if I have that one), which introduces a new part to repair the column shift mechanism in wagons and sedan delivery vehicles.

“1951 M38 Willys Jeep 24 Volt and M100 Trailer. New fuel tank, lines, and gauge. Rebuilt carburetor. New spark plugs and wires, NOS coil, distributor. Rebuilt starter. Reupholstered the front seat with extra material for the rear seats. The engine was rebuilt in 1995 with 28,131 miles on the odometer and current mileage 37,960. The rear #4 cylinder(closet to the firewall) is at 75psi on the first pass, then up over 100psi on the 2nd pass. The mechanic believes it could be a simple valve adjustement or ring replacement. The previous owner and i have kept all repair records. The previous owner mentioned that this M38 was in the Korean theater. Clean title on both. I have extra parts and technical manuals”

“I’m selling a Willy’s Jeep with a 2-point lift and PTO original to vehicle. The jeep has a title. I bought this as a project a while back haven’t done anything with it the previous owner did quite a bit of work on it the whole entire body was sandblasted metal is in really good shape which is rare. Body is primer with Automotive primer. will not take much work to finish body. Motor is unknown Currently out of the vehicle I was told it is going to need a rebuild I have a box full of parts off the engine looks like I have everything needed. All the hydraulic lines were replaced hydraulic cylinder repacked drivetrain gone through . All by previous owner . Brand new tires were put on a couple years ago no miles on them. This Jeep also comes with a factory plow pump and half cab with doors all original will not separate must buy everything these Jeeps with the three point hitch and 540 PTO are very rare especially in this condition.”.

DASH: Yesterday was the first true relief from the past few weeks of hot weather, as we only hit 90 degrees. Moreover, there are no more triple digit days currently forecast. The cool weather will make working in the shop more tolerable.
And, while I haven’t made the progress I’d hoped, progress was made. A couple of the delays were part-related, as Ron Francis ignition switch was delayed a week. I also went ahead and ordered an NOS speedometer from Barney Goodwin at Barney’s Jeep Parts, which arrived on Tuesday (thanks again Barney). It looks fantastic!
Most of the wiring is complete, but still some loose ends dangling. It feels like for the two weeks I’ve been saying, “almost there …”

DRIVE: Last Friday we drove over to the west side (and 77 degree temps .. nice) to look at a motorhome. It was a 36′ 1996 Holiday Rambler diesel with a towing capacity of 15Klbs. It used to be owned by Rob Stafford, before he upgraded to a bus. We were very serious about buying it, until Ann had an asthmatic reaction to the musty interior smell. So, we felt it best to pass on the deal. (and out was a deal at $12k .. it sold within a few days). We’ve decided to increase the budget and look for something nicer.

I found a great price on an unusual model from Red Y Cut: the Sport Jeep. So, I supposed I ought to say that I “HOPE” the jeep model is still inside! My guess is that this is a late 1940s model, but I don’t have any documentation for that.

Good shape for a Midwestern Jeep. Runs, drives and stops. Plow works. Rare Jeep. Jeep experts call this a holy grail Jeep because of the low production numbers. One of 461. “Nice original 1950 Willys CJ3A Farm Jeep. Jeep has rear pto with shield, novi governor, ag weight. Even has the original head lights. Jeep is not running but engine turns over and transmission/transfer case shift freely. Jeep comes with top bows and seat frame, but monroe lift parts in back are being sold separately.
I have a nice repairable CJ3A tub available in another ad that would compliment this project nicely.”

(10/19/2023) I have called the seller of this CJ-2A a friend for over a decade. His 1948 CJ-2A Lefty includes numerous extras. Also included is a unique collection of literature, some of which I’ve never seen elsewhere. The seller was instrumental in provided a great deal of unique, early civilian documents.
This collection is in Europe, so for a European collector it is likely a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get all this at cost far below what it would take to ship (if you could find the equipment) from the US.
