Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I have a complete M38A1 Willys Army jeep from 1954, it is complete! With the original data plates and all the parts are there including top bows and seats, Has new military canvas driver seat as well as the rear bottom seat cushion. I can finish the cnavas job on the other seats if you so desire it. I have spent the better part of 16 months bringing this old Army veteran jeep back to its military glory. It has all the hard to find accessories and attachments. All Five tires are original military tires, as are the rims. I just installed a rebuilt T-90 transmission this year, a complete new old stock exhaust system. This jeep needs some paint and your markings and you are ready for parades, vfw functions or just to jeep around with. I have a box of extra parts that will come with it. Currently the jeep is in 12 volt, I have all the parts to convert over to a complete dual battery 24 volt system. This is the most complete M38A1 offered. Has all the original lifting shackles and front bumper that has not been molested or cut. New ties rods installed, new steering bellcrank, two new front brake cylinders. The fuel tank is original and has already been gone through and restored so you will not have to worry about a fuel tank leaking. Comes with two fuel cans (5 gallon military one is dated 1977 the other is new old stock from 1955) Also comes with two gallons of the correct semi-gloss paint you will need to finish the restoration. “This is a rare cab-over style Forward Control Jeep with a 2.3 liter F-head 4-cylinder engine, 3-speed T-90 manual transmission, and two-speed T-18 transfer case. I have a clear Texas title in my name. These unusual trucks draw a lot of attention.
The engine and transfer case have seen no use since being rebuilt and they are out of the vehicle, along with the gearbox. Radiator is rebuilt. This truck was sold new in the Phoenix, AZ area and remained there with the original owner’s family until I brought it to central Texas about five years ago, so body corrosion is minimal. Brakes are rebuilt with no miles on them. All window glass is good. Comes with new hoses, wiring harness, clutch, pressure plate, brakes, a spare set of doors, rear window glass, bare cylinder head, spare disassembled 3-speed gear box, vacuum brake servo, plus various extra pieces of trim, and small mechanical items….”

“Considering 66 years have passed since this CJ2a came off the line it is in nice shape. Why would you buy a Rhino or gator for your ranch when you could drive a piece of history, this is the first civilian jeep very much like the one our grandfathers won WWII in. Drive Train runs strong, has a slightly later F head engine with a side draft carb instead of a hole in the hood, brakes have been rebuilt, new carb. The front clip is nearly perfect, the tub has some welded in patches and needs some attention. I think the steering box is missing a tooth and the wiring could be redone, but otherwise it is pretty much complete.”

(06/14/2012) Am I missing something here? $5000 for this? I agree, the body looks good, though this doesn’t have a tailgate like it should. And, it seems to be missing leg room for the back seat passengers. And, it requires some assembly. And, … well, you get my point.

(03/22/2013) Is this a Maverick? It’s got two tone paint and two tone interior.
“This a 1961 Willy’s Wagon with original 230 flat-head six cylinder engine. I have replaced many general parts. It has been painted and new interior. Engine and transmission are very strong. This vehicle starts and drives great. You may also make a reasonable offer.”
We just got back to Seaside, Oregon, after a long trip down the Oregon coast. During our drive we squeezed in a visit to the Tillamook cheese factory, visited the Blue Heron cheese store, and dropped by to see the jeeps and planes at the Tillamook Air Museum.
The building at the Air Museum was very cool, as it is the largest wooden structure in the world. According to the website, “Stationed at NAS Tillamook was Squadron ZP-33 with a complement of eight K-ships. The K-ships were 252 feet long and filled with 425,000 cu. ft. of helium. With a range of 2,000 miles and an ability to stay aloft for three days, they were well suited for coast patrol and convoy escort. Naval Air Station Tillamook was decommissioned in 1948.”
The facility is now an air museum with thirty air craft. Also housed at the museum are two jeeps. One jeep is a very nice CJ-3A that may (or may not) have been used by the Navy. No documentation is provided to show what its history was, but its paint job suggests a Navy affiliation.
The second jeep, according to the documentation, is a “1944 Willys Jeep. However, you can quickly see this is a militarized CJ-2A. The only military Item I could see was the front grille.

Blaine forwarded a picture of the Kapi JIP yesterday. The picture was taken at Bruce Weiner’s micro car museum in Madison, Georgia.
While Frederico Saldana is said to have patterned this after the American Army Jeep, it looks much more like a CJ-3B/Wagon hybrid.

“A rare, working, 1952 Willys Jeep CJ2A with an Auburn Jeep-A-Trench trencher. It will dig a trench 6″ wide and 46″ maximum depth. The trencher was made in Auburn, Nebraska by a company that is still in existence today. I have used this trencher 3-4 times a year for the past 6 years. It has been kept in a barn, each time I just put battery in it and it is ready to go. I have used it for installing water lines, electrical lines, drainage tile and rain water downspouts. It was previously owned by a local plumber. It is simple to use and once digging is started you just stand back and watch it work. It runs great and has not overheated in our hot and humid Kansas summers. Brakes are soft and steering is stiff but you’re really not going to drive it any distance anyway. It is self propelled via creeper gears and the digging outrigger can be raised and lowered via an electric motor. All of the standard Jeep CJ2A features are still retained. It was converted to 12 volt then the trencher unit was added at the factory along with a Governor to regulate engine speed, a PTO unit, an additional drive shaft, heavy springs and frame stiffeners. Exact mileage unknown, but it can’t be to high because the trencher has been on it since day one. Comes with spare parts including extra trencher teeth and chain links and owner guide. Have a clear title. Sold AS IS, no warranty. Also for sale locally. I will not deliver. If you arrange shipping I will assist with loading. Deposit payment of $500 via PayPal within 24 hours of auction ending. Balance of payment will be cashiers check or cash. “Three warn overdrives for a model 18 transfer case. There is enough to put together two good overdrives, the third has gear damage but saveable with some new parts. Includes shift lever and linkage. Selling all together, cleaning out garage and don’t have a use for them. $250 takes all, these overdrives are similar to Saturn overdrives. To buy new they are $800+ per overdrive.

“Not sure of the year of this beauty. Believe its a CJ3A. Lots of patches and rust and I think the top is homemade and nicely done. I do have the doors. It is still a 6 volt system and believe it or not it runs, drives and stops like it should. Shifts into all gears with no noise or popping out of gear. Could use a tune up and a lot of love. I have a temporary gas can on it to move it around. There is a good gas tank on the passenger seat that will go with it. Would make a good farm jeep or put a new body on it. Lots of good parts”
