Engine runs, but produces white smoke.
“1949 Jeep Willys
Asking $1,700 OBO. Great Jeep Willys for restoration or hunting.
Body:
1949 Willys body in excellent condition, only small dent on driver’s rear corner. No rust other than normal surface rust as expected. Windshield frame is in good condition, does not have glass.
Interior/Electrical:
All electrical is in working condition (12V). Front seats need re-upholstering but pans and mounts are in good condition.
Engine:
1948 Willys. Engine runs but produces a white smoke. I think it needs new piston rings. I have not opened up to find out. Currently gas tank is pulled (in good condition but pulled to clean interior). Has new plugs and good battery. Will include new oil filter.
Drive train:
4×4 and hub locks work well.
Tires:
In good condition but not original look.
Brakes:
In working condition.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $350.
Philip forwarded this. I’m try to get my brain around this, but I can’t quite picture a trencher here.
“Willeys jeep trencher. Seems to all be there. $350.00”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2500.
This jeep has some unusual history. The engine and tranny are out of it. There is a video of the inauguration parade that shows a CJ-5 pulling a float at the 4:17 mark. http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65675034028_John-F-Kennedy%E2%80%99s-Inaugural-Parade_fireworks-in-the-sky_John-A-Volpe . There is a reference to them at the G503, too: http://g503.com/forums///////viewtopic.php?f=19&t=162217“Click here for ADDITIONAL PHOTOS
“This is a 1961 Willys CJ-5 with some history. Snow was predicted for the 1961 JFK inaugural parade and 2 Jeeps were commissioned to lead the parade and plow if necessary. This is one of the two Willys outfitted with snow plows that led the parade in Philadelphia (plaque on dash). I’m told the paint color was chosen to match Air Force One. After the parade the Jeeps were donated to a Philadelphia school. When they had served their purpose a school employee purchased this Jeep, and we bought it from the next owner who bought it from the school employee. You may have noticed the engine and drive train have been removed; this was the start of a restoration project that never went any further. Items that go with the Willys are: original drive train and engine, extra engine, PTO driven winch, snow plow and all other pertinent items for reassembly.
The dash plaque reads: THIS Jeep VEHICLE WAS AN OFFICIAL UNIT IN THE INAUGURAL PARADE HONORING THE 35TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY JANUARY 20, 1961”
This doesn’t run. It was a column shift at some point and appears to have all three data plates. Not tool indents are evident though.
“I have a ’46 Willys CJ2a in good condition for sale. It was running smoothly before winter and will need a little tlc to get it back to running after sitting for a few months. Most parts are original, I know for sure the electric has been updated, 2 sets of brakes have been upgraded to disc brakes, gas tank has been replaced, and the column shifter was moved to the floor. I am not a mechanic but you will likely need to do three things to get her back to running: bleed the brakes, charge (maybe replace) the battery and check the fuel line.
Things that I know need work:
Some of the gauges need work, specifically the fuel and speedometer.
There is slight rust, but nothing bad.
I’ve driven it around town without any problems and gone about 40 miles outside of town. Tops out at about 50 mph, so highway isn’t really ideal. There is a tow bar in front, a roll bar over the top and has 4wd using manual locking hubs.
It has been a very wonderful Jeep, and hasn’t given me any issues outside of needing attention more often for being a ’46. I recently started my own business and I hate to just have this antique just sitting around. Antique car insurance is currently running me about 5 dollars a month through state farm. You should be to get similar rates.

UPDATE: **Status Unknown** Was on eBay
This is unusual. It could use some work.
“1957 Willys Diesel Truck this Truck has the Mitsubishi 6DR5 factory straight 6 cylinder Turbo Diesel conversion with less than 25,000 miles on it. It gets 30 miles per gallon and is very dependable. It has a brand new 4 core radiator, has a block heater, new starter, alarm on motor compartment, Stock t 90 transmission know as the twin stick, it has a Warn overdrive splitter that splits all gears, so makes this truck a 6 speed, electric air horn, spot light, 6000 pound American made (Portland Oregon) Bellevue Winch with a 135-1 ration, dual batteries $250 each, duel tanks, UHF and VHF two way radio with a scanner This truck has had two owners, and has 55,000 original miles. This is an original Nevada truck and has no rust except for the drivers door and I have another door. Call if you would like more info.”
The paint job on this is unusual. The cammo even extends across the headlights. But the inside of this looks quite nice. The jeep may be in good shape.
“Call 906-341-3582 or e-mail for more info. Nice old jeep. Great shape.”
Looks like a fair price for the combo.

This sure looks like a good price. I wonder why is wrong with it . . . Maybe the price is a misprint?
“Original engine runs very good. Vehicle has been restored. Has newly upholstered front and rear seats, has roll bars, 31 x10 tires, chrome rims (used). These photographs were taken by Ron Day, who wrote articles about the races and has hundreds of additional photos. I’ve contacted him, thanked him for publishing the photos, and asked if he had any additional information he could share. Ron now lives in Alaska and continues to photograph. You can see his website here: http://rondayvous.com/

Not all the vehicles were modified. Many 1970s racers were trail jeeps with winches and tow bars still attached, such as this drag racer.
