Builds: Leapin’ Lena & a Cab for sale

• CATEGORIES: Builds, CJ-2A This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE:  Kaweh says he’s asking $380/obo for the Cab, which includes a windshield, good glass, wipers, parts, etc.  It’s all there.  If you are interested, you can email him at ketminan-rad@jccscpa.com.

Recently, Kaweh used eWillys to find this 1951 CJ-3A in Osbourn, Idaho.  The owner named the jeep Leapin Lena.  She owned the jeep for 50 years and made Kaweh promise that he wouldn’t change the jeep’s name.

The jeep came with a top that Kaweh doesn’t want. He’s included some pics below.  He hasn’t determined a price yet, so if you are interested, drop a comment below and I’ll make sure he gets your information.

In addition, Kaweh is looking for a CJ-2A windshield.  If you have one and aren’t too far away from Missoula, drop a comment below.  Thanks!

DSC02549

About the top, Kaweh writes “The window on the driver side (not the driver door but the window in the cab itself) is cracked. Otherwise the cab is in great shape just needs some TLC and paint.”  Kaweh and the top are located in Montana. The windshield that is currently on the Jeep is part of the cab (you can see how upright it is installed).  The doors are in really good shape; even the insulation is still there.

A Jeep from the Phillipines

• CATEGORIES: Reader Stories This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Dexter wrote me recently about how a 2003 experience made him want to purchase an old military jeep.  The jeep shown below was one Dexter happened across in the Phillipines and is an interesting mix of different jeep parts.

“My name is Dexter Abellera, and I’m emailing your from Lodi, CA, about 30 minutes south of Sacramento. I came across your eWillys site, and I must say, I’ve been on it everyday for the past week!

I’m 33 years old. I was born in the Philippines, and migrated to Cali when I was 9. My dad was a Captain in the Philippine military back in the 70s and 80s, and I remember him driving us around in a Government-Issued Toyota Mini Landcruiser. Sure it wasn’t a real Jeep, but I just fell in loved with the open-top, go-anywhere driving.

When I was 18, I bought a new 1995 Jeep Wrangler. Loved it. Unfortunately, I was forced to sell it back in 2005 because my wife and I needed down payment to buy a home. I miss that damn thing a lot!

In 2003, I went on vacation in the Philippines–first time in years. My grandpa passed away four months later, and my dad finally told me some war stories of how my grandpa was one of the soldiers that walked the infamous Bataan Death March back in WWII. He also served time during the Korean War.

During my vacation, I came across this vintage WWII Willys [pics below] along the side of the road in Manila. I’m sure you better than anyone can tell what is original and what isn’t. Anyway, seeing the Jeep lit a fire within me to buy an old MB, GPW or M-38A1 . . . I guess in way to remember my grandpa as well my country’s involvement in the war. Who knows, he probably rode in one of these! 🙂

That’s me on the driver’s seat. 🙂 The owner is the old man with the green top.”

Kill the Bastards … Here’s an Interesting WWII Pic

• CATEGORIES: War Images This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: This photo appears in the September 27, 1943, issue of Life Magazine. It was the magazines’ “picture of the week” (pages 36/37) https://books.google.com/books?id=YFAEAAAAMBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false … it’s described as an ACME Telephoto; no photograph name is associated with it.

====================

Bruce provided me a copy of this pic.  That’s a pretty intimidating sign.

The sign reads:

KILL THE BASTARDS!
Down this road marched one of the regiments of the united states army
Knights serving the Queen of battles
Twenty of their wounded in litters were bayoneted, shot and clubbed by the yellow bellies
KILL THE BASTARDS!

Note the bottom blue tub.  It has the custom dash that I’ve seen on 5 or 6 or jeeps from California.  Also, it appears that it doesn’t have a driver’s side gas inlet as a part of the original design.  Anyone know anything about these bodies?

1959 CJ-5 Bethel, NY **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ5 This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Was $2450. **SOLD**

This might make an interesting rebuild, assuming the body isn’t too bad.

“We have here a good running solid 50 year old Willys Jeep. Original miles 20,000 was used on farm and stored inside until I bought it 12 years ago. I have never put plates on it and only used it to plow my own driveway. I have had it stored out side the whole 12 years but never on the road in salt. I am selling due to knee surgury and unable to work the clutch in the small cab thus I had to get a full size truck to plow with. This 4 cyl Jeep plowed better that the full size truck with the V-8 engine. Would like to see this go to a new home and be restored – the old truck deserves restoration – or just to go ahead and plow for another 50 years.”

Jeep Clubs in Pakistan

• CATEGORIES: International, Website This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Right in the middle of drafting a post about DJ-3As vs Galas vs Surreys, the internet managed, once again, to derail my efforts.  In the middle of doing a picture search,  I stumbled upon the Islamabad Jeep Club.  Hmm .. that’s in Pakistan … could that really be a jeep club?   Not only is it a jeep club, it is one of the three clubs from Pakistan on the internet with sites published entirely in English.

I admit, this is something I didn’t expect.  I admit, despite my attempts not to preconceive, my entire conception of Pakistan is desert, Camels and a mirror of Afghanistan — a montage of movies and news footage.  That was my view of Pakistan.

Here’s a video from 2008:
httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mt6hwbkmG0

Now I’ve learned there’s more. So, for your educational pleasure, below are snapshots from each of the three websites I found in Pakistan and a pic of the wide range of 4wd vehicles that attend the Islamabad Jeep Club events.  You’ll see a wide mix of old flatties, new 4wd vehicles, and everything in between. Finally, while checking out the Offroad Pakistan websites, I ran across a wonderful post about the rebuilding of a Ford F1 from California, which I cover in the post below this one.

A Ford F1 — From California to Karachi, Pakistan

• CATEGORIES: Unusual This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

As I note in the above post, I was checking out the 4×4 Offroaders of Karachi when I found this gem of a story.  It’s a beautiful rebuild.   I’d sure like to know why the builders wife wanted an F1;  a rather strange request!  Here is an excerpt:

Soon after we got married, my wife Sabiha asked me to get a Ford F1 truck for her. I tried my best but could not find any in Pakistan. Some thirty years later, on one of her visits to America, she found one in a small town called Dry Town near Sacramento, California. She convinced the owner to sell it to her and I think she got it for $140 (exact amount she has not told me – only that it cost more to have it towed to our friend Javed Akber’s house in Sacramento). Till we could figure out how to have it shipped to Karachi, for over a year the Ford truck remained parked in Javed’s garage (while their own two cars remained out in the open).”  Read more …
