UPDATE: As noted in the article below, these were developed by O. E. Szekely & Associates, who also created the modified CJ-3A for the Navy. The APU pictured in color below is from the Miramar Marine Corps Air Museum in San Diego.
I keep thinking that I’ve seen all the different jeeps that were ever built. But nope, here’s another one I’ve not seen before, discussed on this Argentinian website. Both the pics below and the video are from that website. It’s really cool!

If you are like me, you love to eat slow, pit cooked meat (pork, beef, bison, chicken, and just about anything else). Actually, I’m partial to Kalua Pork, named not for the beverage, but rather for the method of cooking: Kalua Pork translates as “to cook in an underground oven”. Now, I don’t have an underground over, but I have a heavy crock pot. All you need is about 5lbs of pork butt or a picnic cut, a table spoon of liquid smoke and a table spoon and a half of salt. Drop it into your pot (don’t add water). Turn it on high. Wait 5 or 6 hours. Throw in about 1/4 cabbage sliced. Cook another half hour, and it will be done: I guarantte you will have some fantastic Kalua Pork. Easy and nutritious.
But, if you don’t feel like cooking your own pork and you are near Port Aransas, Tx, then drop by the Rusty Jeep Hickory Pit. And, of course, there’s even a rusty jeep in the parking lot (which no doubt ran until it was parked? lol). Josh’s sister sent him some pics, seen below, and I found a few additional pics on the net (thanks Josh).
The sign below is attached to the front grille of the jeep.

Can’t see much in the pics. I’m guessing it doesn’t run.

It runs and doesn’t look too terrible.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was for trade.
This seller is looking to trade for a truck.
“I have a 1946 Jeep Willys cj2a im looking at trading for a 71 chevy shortbox pickup. I would prefer a 4×4 but a 2×4 might be alright too if its in good shape. Engine doesnt really matter neither does transmission really. It should run or be close it but i wont turn down a good project if its in good enough condition. My jeep willys is a 46 Cj2a and is complete minus a gas tank and ignition. Clear title in hand yours should be too. It comes with a brand new tailgate, windshield frame, seats and all rubber seals. The jeep is taken a part right now but sits as you see it in the picture. I picked it up a few years back and just havent had the time to get into it yet.
Tires hold air just fine its been garaged for the past 5 years so shes ready to be restored to your liking. It still has the original hurricane flat 4 engine too which turns over smoothly. All new brakes on it too. wired 12v instead of 6v now.
Im located in rapid city. I can trailer the Willys to you within reasonable distance for milage if you dont live in the area. I may take cash for the Willys too if your interested but dont have a nice shortbox for me. Shoot me an email and we can go from there.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2000
To register in Cali, it will cost an extra $700, but it sure looks like a good price at $2000.
“1959 willys jeep with a 289 ford v8. runs good . 3 speed manual tranny, twin stick differential shifters, decent mud tires. brand new performer intake, flowmaster, rancho shocks and edelbrock carb. 700$ back registration due. no pink slip .runs good”
As the eWillys Senior Envoy to Colombia, Sebastian continues to bring back some great pics and information. This time he’s posted them at the Flat Fender Club of Butler’s website. Below are a few of them. Thanks Sebastian!
The CJ-3B Page has some great pics of Fire Jeeps. Here’s a few I found by accident on this page.
Here’s a kid’s book called Willy: The Little Jeep Who Wanted to Be a Fire Truck. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s supposed to be based loosely on a real event and a real 1947 CJ-2A. The book has its own website.
From Amazon.com, “Join Willy as his dream of becoming a fire truck takes some surprising twists and turns. Travel with him on an adventure that brings him from the sidelines to center stage and safely back home again.
Written originally as a Christmas present for a friend, WILLY has already captivated children of all ages. As one reviewer noted, “The book is written for a child, but has so much meaning for adults as well. I don’t mind admitting that a tear of joy rolled down my ‘headlight’ too!” Others have described Willy as “lovable,” “endearing,” and “plain ol’ fun.”
The story, penned by volunteer firefighter Don Estes, is based on actual events that happened in Clinton Corners, New York and Clinton, Connecticut.”
UPDATE: Was $3400. **SOLD**
Here’s a highly modded flattie.
“1948 4X4 Willys Jeep, 283 Chevy engine, 4 speed transmission, front disc brakes, air compressor, back seat, 8000 lb winch on front, 33″ swamper tires that go great in the sand, dana locker rear end. This jeep has been in the woods and the beach. It goes anywhere you take it. Asking $3400 obo.”
After seeing this ad multiple times, it got to me. The seller claims in each ad that the photo below was taken during the Prohibition era.
I mean, c’mon, how difficult is it to look up Prohibition (1919 -1933) and look up when jeeps were built (nothing before 1940). I mean, am I asking so much?
Now here’s a more complete version of the picture. Note the jeep is atop wood slats which are atop beer bottles.
Ok, here’s the best one I found. I thought I had posted it previously.
and a pic of the Andrew sisters .. is that them? Could be.
UPDATE: The seller has dropped the price to $2000 and is throwing in a beat up 1952 M-38. I’d say this is a good price.
(12/27/09) The seller notes that this would not make a good original restoration projection.
“I have a 1952 M38 for sale along with a 1955 M170. The M38 is still 24 volt and would make a great restoration project, it does not run. The M170 has been converted to 12 volt and has aftermarket seat frames, it would also make a great project. The M170 was a military ambulance when it was in service. Both are classic vehicles and would be great for trail jeeps or collectibles. I priced them together and cheap because i need to get rid of both of them. All i am asking is to get my money back out of them. Please call or text 334-750-1062 and ask for Mac. I am 25-30 miles outside of columbus. Please no emails. Thanks for looking!”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $4000
This looks like a solid truck.
“willys needs a new home moving and cant take it this truck is almost completely restored with 28,000 original miles clear title ready for transfer 4000 cash or best offer i have lots of pics if interested”
The pics aren’t the greatest, but this might be nice.
“I hate, hate, hate that I have to sell this Jeep. I purchased in the early 2000’s and have 293 recorded man hours into the restoration. I have a full photo album of pictures from the very early stages through completion. However, none are online. I have taken a few pictures of the pictures with my camera phone.
Too much detail to go into regarding the restoration, but I do have a printout of everything that went into it. It runs well and is started weekly to keep everything in working order. T-90 Transmission and Transfer Case Model 18. Engine: #J45856. This restoration is one of the nicest that I’ve ever seen. This jeep is a great collectible and a piece of American history. Please feel free to ask questions, I’ll do my best to answer. $15,000.00 OBO… Make an offer!”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $2800.
This looks like it’s in great shape. Might be a deal.
“1960 willys cj5 jeep. Runs and drives good. It has a fiberglass body with original drive train. It is a 4 cylinder f- head with a 3 speed transmission. Twin stick 4wd with locking hubs. Many new parts including Brakes, tires, windshield, paint, seats, steering wheel and wiring harness. Needs very little to finish. Like mirrors, e brake and the horn has to be hooked up. I have the mirrors and horn, just haven’t had any time. A lot of time and money have been spent, but it has to go.”
No pictures. Is this tailgate really so rare?
“I have a super rare Willys pickup tailgate stamped with the W over the O that became the most recognized Willys Overland symbol. It is in very good condition. While the pickup remained the same from the 40’s to the 60’s, this tailgate was only made from 49-52……..and I challenge you to find one available for sale. replies MUST have WILLYS in the subject or I will delete as spam. Will consider all sorts of possible trade material….motorcycles, tools, firearms….what do you have?”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $400.
I’m assuming it’s the green jeep for sale?
“1952 willy mb green with a 289ford v8 and headers, need work (master cylinder, body and wiring) engine runs very good and has a excellent vinyl top black in color . $400.00 firm. Pick-up only”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $5400.
Located in Windsor, Rhode Island.
While this may be a fine jeep, claiming that, except for the longer length of a CJ-7, this is a ‘perfect copy’ of a M-38A1 seems a bit dishonest to me. Exactly what part of this jeep is a ‘perfect copy’ of a M-38A1?
“Up for sale is a Korean war era M38A1 1985 CJ7 MASQUARADE. Apart from the fact that CJ7s are about 8 inches longer this is a perfect copy. Its got a 5 speed transmision with the AMC 258 L6 motor and the 3.31 axel to gear ratio. And good 28′ wheels and tires. Only 130,000 miles on it (pretty low for a jeep) …. Military stuff: Comes with “lusterless forest green” high test military paint job as well as has “USN 023990″ painted on hood (yes the navy actually had more green jeeps then grey jeeps). Has military canvas seats, an authentic m38a1 dashboard (with all gauges hooked up and working, military black out lights and locking toggle switches (including blackout light, convoy lights and military rear and front light clusters). Comes with digital camo hard top and authentic jerry can and bracket.”
Someone traded this in for a Jag perhaps?
“Rare Numbers Matching Ford GPW Military Jeep! This Jeep has been very well cared for and captures history of WWII Much More Information. Call Zachary Blaugh, Internet Sales Manager at 941-232-4236 OR 800-791-4271. VIN GPW261030”
If this sat in a barn for 15 years, that barn must have been pretty leaky!
“This Willys is being sold to settle an estate, it will be sold at No Reserve with NO TITLE! The odometer shows 1,572 miles but will be sold as true miles unknown. Fresh from the barn where vehicle has been parked for 15+ years. Great for restoration or donor. Willys & Jeep parts are becoming harder to find as the years go on, this one is complete with every part you need. Included in the auction are both side doors with great frames, front windshield assembly which is complete with glass & wipers, and all framework for the top. Please ask any questions and i will answer you asap. I am listing this for another person who is settling the estate. Local towing can be arranged if needed. Once again it will be sold with no title and true miles unknown.”
UPDATE: Price dropped to $2900
(12/6/09) For the 4wd not to work, is the front drive shaft missing?
“1952 willys jeep, 4 cylinder, Runs like a champ, fun to drive. The only thing that doesnt work is the 4 wheel drive, has very little rust. the price is $2900 OBO. Hand in the 3rd photo not included, lol …Call for more details. 706-474-2507. Thanks for looking. Lee”
