“1967 Jeep CJ6 model and is pretty much original. Has the 4 Cylinder with the T98 four speed with a rear facing PTO output. Has a warn winch from the 80’s up front and the original Jeep hardtop. I am the third owner of it and have only added a new fuel tank to it and a BDS 2.5” spring lift with new shocks. Outside of that it is untouched since last owner. I have both the original Willy’s wheels as well as the cj5 renegade wheels that go with it. Runs and drives good just not fast. Issues I know of that it has: Surface rust on driver floor. Passenger door needs to be tinkered with can only be opened from inside. Rear seat is not on original brackets and needs cove Need to file for lost Title as previous owner lost it and I have never taken the time to go take care of it. Have all paperwork (registration and maintenance) from two previous owners dating back to 1977.”

The engine runs, see video, I replaced the entire wheel brake system. Something is broken in the transmission. Front and rear differentials will most likely need to be overhauled. It has four brand new wheels and tires. Brand new windshield glass. It also has an over drive transmission. “1942 Ford GPW Script Jeep with matching serial numbers on the frame, motor and data tag. Definitely a project but pretty rare with the matching numbers. Missing parts include grill,lights,rear seat, air filter, spare tire and carrier, 2 combat rims. Most parts are F marked. Those that aren’t F marked include the windshield and passenger seat. Engine needs one valve tappet freed up. More we’re stuck but we’re freed up with soaking. Engine turns free 1 1/2 turns at which time the stuck tappet stops the rotation. Have not removed head yet but the cylinders, pistons look good and move freely. Body is as shown and the frame will need work on the front rails and rear. Hood needs a patch as shown.”

This eight-page issue published for June of 1962 starts with the movie Hatari! Pages two and three are all about dealers (and some love for Tornado engines). Most of pages four through seven cover more Hatari info. Page eight highlights the seventh annual Truth or Consequences (NM) ‘Jeep’ Derby. I plan to go back at some point and figure out when the ‘Jeep’ News began covering club and race information. At some point during the late 1950s – early 1960s the notion of jeeps as “fun”, rather than just utility workhorses, enters both the ‘Jeep’ news and Jeep’s advertising. I’m want to learn more about that subtle shift.

“NOS pair of front axle drive flanges for all the CJ jeeps as well as the M38 and M38A1. These hubs do not have the splines in them so you are always in 2WD. Bearing in the center of each hub instead of splines. You are buying 2 flanges per transaction. Mint condition.”

Nearly an entirely original M38A1
This M38A1 came out of the military and was previously a civil defense rig which explains the side decal and the yellow paint.
Cruises 50+ mph on the highway.
Rev 10/8/23: Upon further research, I found a little info that could explain the Tailgate opening and the reason for why the spare tire location is different, read the article in the link below. Some jeeps had a mounted gun. Might also explain why it doesn’t have the rear seat.

Looking this M38A1 closer, the Tailgate opening appears to be factory it has olive Drab paint and rounded bends vs rough cut saw marks. Then the 2 pieces of “C” channel were welded in later to hold the Tailgate.
The side mounted spare appears to be factory with all of the appropriate brackets and hardware.
-Engine s/n: MD80350 stamping near water pump
-tag behind seat is present but covered with yellow paint that isn’t easily removed chemical removal attempted but abrasive removal hasn’t been tried due to concerns of damaging the tag.
-Clean title – licensed in North Dakota
-VIN tag states 10/53
-Title states 1954
-Runs and Drives
-Functional brakes that work but pull to one side when applied.
-Nearly original 24 Volt electrical system, the only thing I am aware of that was changed over is the ignition coil, it has 2 – 12 VDC coils in parallel, and the aftermarket blinkers.
-Good glass
-Very solid vehicle with only surface rust, no serious rot.
-Solid underseat toolbox as shown in pictures
-Yellow paint condition is poor and was likely applied by the civil defense with a paint brush, however it did a great job protecting this vehicle for many years.
-Vacuum wipers are currently non functional.
-All gauges work with the exception of the fuel gauge, stuck on full.
-Tailgate is not original.
-Fairly straight sheet metal, Front bumper and passenger fender have the most significant dents as shown in pictures.
-Engine bay is original olive Drab green and very clean as shown
-Black out lights included, condition unknown
-Working parking brake
-Tires are aged and 2 have slow leaks
