“Listing for a friend. Not my jeep. M38 running jeep serial number 66857 May 1952. Asking $5000. Contact owner at [hidden information]. Located in Alabaster, Al. I looked at the jeep and it is very solid and practically no rust. After consulting other jeep experts we believe it has a early reproduction M38 tub, but these early tubs did not have the cowl battery box or ax/shovel indents in the tub. Jeep comes with over $600 worth of new parts including a CJ wiring harness, manuals and new windshield glass. Would make a great parade jeep, 12 volt, she thinks the brakes were replaced? I did see new brake hoses. Jeep was in the process of being restored up to about 3 weeks ago.”

This as is insteresting as the advertiser is the International Nickel Company of Canada, yet visually it feels like an ad for the upcoming civilian jeep.

“1952 Willys CJ3A. Runs good, Drives good, Stops good, 4×4 works fine. Lots of new parts installed. Rebuilt starter, new fuel pump, carburetor, Master cylinder, plugs, wires, tune up parts, sheering wheel, and steering bell crank pin and bearings. This would make a great parade or farm jeep. It would be an excellent restoration project. There is some bondo here and there, it pops out of second gear when you let off the gas and use the gears to slow it. (typical) It has leaks and some play in the steering. (All very normal for one of these) It is available if it is still listed. It is located at Quarter Ton Parts in Chickamauga, GA. Hours are 8-4 eastern M-F.”
This Forbes November 15, 1944, article titled “Will the Jeep Invade Peacetime Markets” is a pretty sober look at the reality of the WWII jeep. That’s probably because the author, Francis “Frank” Fenn, was the former President of American Bantam at the time the Bantam BRC was developed (one person argued that Frank was the actual father of the jeep).
With tweaks to the basic WWII jeep, Fenn predicted the CJ could do quite a bit, but would never make a good around-town or travel car due to it’s rough ride and basic functions. He predicted, rightly, that it would take a quite a bit of engineering for the vehicle to meet the average family’s on-road needs.
Given the early Wagoneer and the (25M63) printed on the back, this may be a Meyer Snow Plow tri-fold brochure from 1963.

“This 1944 Willys MB was owned by a World War II U.S. Air Force veteran for approximately 40 years before being inherited by the seller’s spouse in 2019. The truck is powered by a 134ci inline-four mated to a three-speed manual gearbox and a dual-range transfer case, and the body was refinished during the family’s ownership in green with military-style livery and features a canvas soft top, a pioneer tool kit, a jerrycan, and more. The included Willys trailer was purchased and refurbished approximately 25 years ago. This Willys Jeep and trailer are now offered by the seller with period WWII memorabilia, non-operational display machine guns and other items, a technical manual, service records from the past 40 years, and a clean Ohio title in the seller’s spouse’s name.
The seller states that the body was disassembled, refurbished, and repainted in olive drab green with reapplied insignias and livery in the 1990s. The included trailer underwent a similar refurbishment. Additional exterior features include a canvas soft top, a hinged dual-pane windshield, a fender-mounted Federal Enterprises siren, camouflage netting, blackout driving lights, and more. Dan bought this jeep for the hardtop and plans to put it up for sale. As is with no Oregon title it is $1600 (parts jeep). Once he goes through the paperwork to give it an Oregon title, he plans to raise the price to $2000. The body is a unique wood kit. Dan shared this ad. The seller of this jeep told Dan that his father bought a wood kit from Sears or Montgomery to make a wood body; this is the result. I searched my Sears and Montgomery catalogs, but couldn’t locate a body repair kit (but I don’t have all the old catalogs). Dan got some close of up pics which are at the bottom of this post.
“1948 Willys CJ2a Jeep. Was my dads jeep but he passed away recently. He had hopes to get it runnig and driving again as he used to drive it on his property 20 years ago. Needs work. Engine missing carb, distributor and starter. I don’t know where he put those, also I can’t seem to find the title for it so no title (unfortunately)…selling as parts.
The jeep has a wooden body from the mid body seam to the rear (forward body is original metal). My dad bought a kit to make the wooden body from sears or montgomery wards many years ago. I assume he did this due to rust in the rear body floors. It’s done very well as the kit included supports and corners. The frame and other parts are solid and only have surface rust. I was going to get this going again and purchased a rare Koening hard top for it which I will sell seperately if the new owner desires it. Also the jeep includes a nice roll bar which is not installed.”
