Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. The jeep is small in the photo, but I thought the hard top looked interesting. The rear window has an angle in back and it looks like the front door has a very small window. This is a reprinted photo.

Vincent spotted this stock CJ-5. It has good restoration potential.
“For sale 1963 cj 5 2 owner jeep. This Jeep has a factory hardtop with the full size doors, so the windows are much bigger and also roll all the way up and down. The body is very straight, only two small rust spots on the tailgate. Just put new fuel tank and sending unit. Also put new fuel pump tuneup and carburetor rebuild. Runs and drives very well. Very rare find!! 4 cylinder 3speed transmission.”
This may be worth a look.

At first I thought someone hacked the entrance areas on the passenger and driver’s side. But, after looking more closely, it looks like it was done by design.

This doesn’t run, but that’s because the seller doens’t have the key. This deserves a close look.
“I have a 1958 Willys Jeep CJ5 Project not currently running, Complete, Stock powertrain 4cyl 3spd, Not sure what all it needs to get running I do not have a key to ignition so key would be a good start. Previous owner put new timing set on engine so timing might need to be set and radiator and gas tank are removed but come with Jeep.”

(09/07/2012) This may be a pretty stock jeep, but them boxes across the front sure don’t help.
“I have an original 1947 Jeep Willys CJ-2A for sale. It has been used as a hunting truck for its entire life. It has green paint, power take off (pto) winch, tow bar, mud terrain tires with a lot of tread left, heavy duty snow chains for the tires, and a heater for those cold mornings in the field. The only reason I am selling it, is it belongs to my great uncle and he doesn’t use it anymore because of his age. He has a stack of receipts and paper work for every repair/work done to it. This rig is completely original, right down to the 6v wiring.”

There is an item I can’t identify on the floor in front of the transmission shifter. Is that some type of heater?
“1948 WILLYS JEEP RUNS GOOD. GOOD TRANSMISSION. I DON’T HAVE MUCH HISTORY ON THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN LOTS OF PHOTOS SO PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT.”
Check out Brendan’s “Hardtops and the Civlization of the Jeep, Part I“. It’s a great early synopsis of attempts at topping the early jeeps.
Looks like it has some early Cutlas hubs. Might get the whole thing at a cheap price.

It has a lot of rust at the windshield and tub but the drive train (motor is locked up) is complete and many good ORIGINAL parts for the collector. Have title, owned this since 1965. This was a sweet running Jeep, I enjoyed driving it and 4wheeling with it. $2,500.”
