Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. As part of getting my computer up and running again (whew!), I tested out various pieces of hardware (like my scanner), only to discover Apple’s new OS (Mavericks) is more advanced than the drivers. However, with some software gymnastics, I got it working. Here’s the first result (I had to clean this up quite a bit). It’s a Sports Graphic from the 1945 issue of Willys War News. I’ll be doing a full scan of that at some future point.

The photo below shows the cover of a rare edition of The Willys War Newspaper. Published on September 28, 1945, this appears to be both the last issue of The Willys War News and the first issue of The Willys News. I base this on three facts: 1) the word ‘war’ is scratched at the top, 2) the small explanation at the bottom of the front page and 3) the publishing date.
Searches of “The Willys War News” yielded the following:

Based on those clues, I would estimate that there were were at least 24 editions IF there were 10 issues in 1943 and 10 issues in 1944 and at least 4 issues in 1945. Anyone know of other examples of this? This seems as rare as the Globe Trotter Magazine.
This was sold today on ebay. The buyer has agreed to let me scan this document and share it. So, look for more info in the future.
I had no idea there were this many Pepsi Surreys produced. I can’t believe someone didn’t get this photo in color. Eighteen of these were sent to Tulsa. I can’t imagine there aren’t a few stragglers still in the area. This photo is from the March 1960 issue of Jeeps News.
This April 1956 article from Willys News highlights the importance of fleet sales to an Oklahoma dealer.
Craig writes, “This was the Midnight Drive-away program that happened at the conclusion of the 1959 Chicago Auto show.There was a little written article about the event but it was pieced together and not easily scanned.”

Craig sent this scan from a Willys News article (though we are uncertain of the exact issue). It shows a DRW FC-170 with some special street painting equipment.

Here’s a great piece of advertising literature.
“Original salesman’s non color catalog , 11 x 17 , 8 pages , includes salesman’s messages , salesman’s contests , shows some models , etc.”

This is Volume 1, #2 of Vagabond: Adventures in 4-Wheel Drive.
“NOS Jeep Vol #1 Issue#2 “Vagabond” Adventures In 4WD, Factory Magazine sent to customers, 5 1/2 X 8 1/2, 30 pages of articles that would appeal to a broad band of potential “JEEP” customers and sprinkled with liberal doses of Jeep product ads and tie ins.”
Craig found this article in the August 1956 issue of Jeep News. A pair of signs only cost $7.00 at the time.

After a minute of great deliberation and exhaustive thinking, I decided to call his weekly feature ‘Craig’s Pic of the Week’. Brilliant, yeah? Today’s pic comes from a 1964 issue of Jeep News.
In March of 2012, Mike was trying to track down the one pictured here. It sure looks like it could have been one of the trucks shown above.
UPDATE: The was first published September 23, 2015: Perhaps one of the earliest wagons used as a tour wagon?
This unique tour jeep truck was featured in the April 1955 issue of Willys News.
