Four in a Jeep — International Posters

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Artists/Drawings, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Die Vier im Jeep (Four in a Jeep) was the original title of this 1951.  It was filmed in Austria. Anyone seen it?  I found some neat posters about it. Here’s more on Wikipedia.

“In post-war Vienna, occupied by the Allies, four sergeants representing each of the occupying nations (USA, England, France, Soviet Union)patrol in the same Jeep. One day they are given the mission to capture and arrest a prisoner who has run away from a Soviet war prisoner camp. But when they learn the truth about Karl, the runaway, and Franziska, his wife, they decide to help him instead. The trouble is that the Soviet sergeant is held on a short leash by his superiors. He has strict orders not to let the fugitive slip away and he comes into conflict with his fellow military policemen. In these conditions, Will Karl and Franziska be reunited and live free again?”

You can find Four In A Jeep: Director’s Cut at Amazon.com

I found a variety of posters at comicartfans.com.  These were all posted by the owner of the originals, Roy Mann.

Salem Jeep Club Plaque **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Artists/Drawings, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE II: Sold, was on eBay.

UPDATE:  Two of the three facts I got from the internet were wrong (imagine that, lol), the date it started and the fact it was no longer around. Thanks to Greg for updating us! This plaque was listed on eBay.

Greg wrote, “My name is Greg Peters, President of the Salem Jeep Club. The Salem Jeep Club was started in 1964, and joined the Pacific Northwest Four Wheel Drive Association in 1965, and are still members to this day. Our club at this time has four member families. In our heyday when everyone was racing, we were in excess of thirty families. At this time, we are somewhat active in fighting land closures, and “anti-access” groups. The club has participated for many years in PNW activities. The placque should have a stamped number on it somewhere, thereby identifying the club member it was assigned to.

This placque was supposed to be returned to the Salem Jeep Club upon termination of membership. This is the property of the Salem Jeep Club, and should never under any circumstances be sold. just for information purposes. The T P shown on the teepee was a way of honoring our sponsor “Taggessell Pontiac” and Jeep in Salem, OR..

More Clowning Around

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Features, Old Images • TAGS: This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

On January 7, 1953, Ringling Circus clown Paul Jerome posed for photographer Joseph Janny Steinmetz.  The reason for shooting a clown in a jeep on the beach is unknown; however, Steinmetz lived in Sarasota, FL, so maybe the location was convenient.  Both photos are from the State Archives of Florida.

Note the jeep has both bowholders and possibly a spare tire carrier on the driver’s side.

Here’s a wooden jeep from Military Mohagany.

” This handcrafted mahogany wood model is an extremely beautiful replica of a World War II Willys jeep with machine gun. Weapon is optional and can be easily removed if desired, it also rotates 360 degrees. Model has an extremely detailed interior with gauges, foot and brake pedal and steering wheel that rotates.

This is not some cheap wood toy, each model takes an average of 18 hrs to complete and is coated with 3 coats of polyurethane for a super high gloss finish. You will not find a better more detailed model than this.

Handmade Flatfender Tin Sign on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Anyone know anything about these?

“These signs are hand made. Each sign is made one at a time on recycled or scrap metal so that, no two signs are exactly the same.

The metal may be scratched, dented, bent or intentionally distressed to make the sign look old. They are made on 24 gauge steel and then the enamel paint is baked, and clear coated. 17 X10.”

I like the motion in this illustration.

“Original illustration (painting) on board (not paper). See blue ruler and oatmeal container to estimate size. It’s LARGE, and in nice shape! Probably done for a 1960s or 1970s men’s magazine.”

Male Call Cartoons With Jeeps

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Comics, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

John took the time to scan Male Call comic strips that contain jeeps and post them at his google page.  Surprisingly, most of the drawings appear to be Ford GPs. You can view the cover of the book here.

He writes, “My Dad had a copy of this printing of Milt Caniff’s Male Call and had it stashed in the back of a dresser drawer. Fair game for a 12-year-old when I ‘discovered’ it in ’64. Don’t know what happened to his copy. Saw a copy on Amazon and grabbed it. I scanned all the images that include all or part of a Jeep in the strip. Consider this a fresh look, enjoy!”

You can see all John scanned here

1944 Meier & Frank Ad for United War Chest on eBay

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Artists/Drawings, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

This is an original ad published in a Portland, Oregon, Newspaper.

“Full page newspaper ad by Meier & Frank Co. is approx 22″ x 16″ and original….1 page only. These came from a very well preserved collection of WWII Portland Oregon newspapers. All are in good to very good condition…this one has some wrinkles toward the middle. Scanned images are blurrier, may appear trimmed, colors darker, lighter or uneven but actual items are not. They are bigger than our biggest scanner so used camera shot and even that doesn’t quite get it all.”

Women Legionnaires Jeep Stickers **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Features, Women & Jeeps This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.

These are unusual.

“Very old jeep decal for the American Legion affiliated womens organization “Twenty and Four, The Honor Society of Women Legionnaires”. The installation instructions are on the back along with the manufacturers name and address which predates zip codes, so this must be from the early 1960s at the latest. It is 6 1/2″ by 4″ and has two jeep decals. The lower left corner has been bent once. Otherwise this great image would be excellent.”

(10/31/2012) A couple weeks ago Glenn wrote me about a book he ran across call the “Doug and the Old CJ” by Bill Nelson.  Based on Glenn’s recommendation, I wrote Bill and recently received a signed copy of my own.  I still have a few books in front of it, but I’ll write a review once I finish it. I leafed through the book and it includes a nice collection of illustrations, too.

Bill published the book in 2009 and according to him, ” It was loosely based on my boy’s adventures with a 1960 cj5. Beyond a good kids story, I tried to present many mentoring lessons, shop safety, thinking out problems, it is ok to get flustered when talking to a girl, the proper way to talk to a girl, the value of knowledge, setting goals, and general constructive living.”

The Adventures of Tin Tin: Destination Moon

• CATEGORIES: Artists/Drawings, Features This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Belgian writer George Remi wrote and illustrated the Adventures of Tin Tin, a series of comic strips and books, which have been adapted for radio, television, theatre and movies. The sixteenth series of comic strips is called Destination Moon, which features a great illustration of our heroes in a jeep racing for a rocket. If you do a search for “tin tin” and “jeep” on eBay you’ll run into a variety of toy jeeps for sale. I’ve never read the comic series, so I really know very little about how much the jeep is involved in the series.
