From Gus and the Model Garage comes this tale. It is more adventure story than mechanic story, but it does feature a Ford GP. It is titled “Gus Helps Land a Big Catch” and published in July, 1961.

I’ve never seen this ad before now.” This is the actual ad and not a copy of one. It was published in 1947.
Layton’s Family Restaurant with a Willys Wagon Sign
Gerald forwarded pictures of this sign (thanks!). While the Willys Wagon is featured prominently on this sign, I couldn’t find any evidence of its existence elsewhere within the restaurant. Layton’s is located in Ocean City, Md, and is supposed to be pretty good according to Urbanspoon.
Commando and CJ-3A Illustrations by Roberto
Roberto forwarded these two illustrations. The process of illustrating the Commando is also shown. Thanks Roberto!

Jeep Drawing by David McMullen
I spotted this neat little drawing by David McMullen over at Sun Compass, which has a page about the Rat Patrol.
Pocket War Comics Jeep
Here are some interesting jeep comics Buz found. They were published in Pocket War Comics. Pocket War Comics were published in Britain and, as the name suggest, were pocket sized. I tried to find more information about them, but didn’t have any luck.
One great resource for this genre is http://pocketwarcomics.blogspot.com/. These came from this same site from this link: http://pocketwarcomics.blogspot.com/2011/03/war-picture-library-99-spearhead.html
Roberto’s M-38 Caricature
Roberto just completed this caricature of a M-38. You can see his progress from start-to-finish here:
Jeep Collages
I ran across the below Collage and thought it would make an interesting post to group some of the collages I’ve run across.
From Ensarf.com comes this Bob Facklam Print. It is signed and numbered. Price is $19.85:
Tim Dolan and I were selling these. I haven’t reordered any.
This is a neat illustration I saw at the WAAAM Museum by Yasuo Ohtsuka called “The Jeep . . . A Concise History”
Here are a couple from Roberto Flores:
“Private Breger” Postcards
Here’s are three postcards with jeeps by Sgt Dave Breger at postcard collectors.
On the left the caption reads, “I would hafta deliver a message to the Colonel when his orderly is sick”. On the right it reads, “‘Should bars! Get your lieutenant’s shoulder bars here.'”
At the bottom of this card it reads “He wants to ride in front. He’s getting carsick back here.”

Roberto Illustrations & Roberto Himself
We often get to see Roberto’s Illustrations, but rarely Roberto himself. It seems he likes to paint himself as much as he does his canvases :-). Visit Roberto Flores at his website to see more.
This is a pic of me posing with another canvas in process!
The “dibujo-m38-uruguay-END.jpg” is another commissioned order drawn for an Uruguayan customer, and is a present for another fellow jeeper.
Here are two others just for fun:
Ann and I Visit the WAAAM at Hood River, Or
While driving to Vancouver on Monday, Ann and I decided to visit the five year old Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum (WAAAM). So, about noon we pulled off I-84 and drove into downtown Hood River expecting to locate the museum quickly. However, it turns out the museum is located a few miles away from town near the airport. As soon as we realized we didn’t know where we were going, we cranked up the GPS and that guided us up the hill and over a dale or two. We even passed a FC-170 off to our right. Finally, we arrived at Air Museum Road.
Since it was Monday at noon, there wasn’t a flood of visitors, which worked out great for us because the staff could take the time to explain and answer all of our questions. In fact, everyone was noticeably friendly and knowledgeable.
The first thing we learned is that WAAAM has one of the largest collection of working antique planes and vehicles in the country. All the different planes, tractors, jeeps, automobiles, trucks, motorcycles are housed in two giant hangars with multiple exits. In fact, some of the planes and vehicles are privately owned, but stored free of charge at the museum. Owners can come in most any time and take their property out to fly or drive them.
Every month the museum holds a “Second Saturday” event. That’s when volunteers arrive to give rides and show off the vehicles. In May of 2012, a special Military Day will be held on the Second Saturday. That date is May 12th and I’ve been invited to talk a little about jeeps and sign books (and maybe ride in a jeep or two???). It should be fun!
Here’s an introduction to the museum:

While I had fun looking at all the cars and planes, it was the jeeps I was there to see. We saw the following jeeps:

Roberto’s Newest Illustration
Roberto forwarded his latest illustration. He writes, “This was offered as a birthday´s present, for a friend of mine. He actually owns the WW2 Willys MB jeep which appears drawn with him. I found it casually some years ago at French-Basque country and he bought it. After some resto (mainly at paint or canvas), he decored it markings of famous WW2 2nd Armored Division “Leclerc”, a legendary unit of Free French army, which liberated Paris at August 1944 with the support of the US 4th Infantry Division. In fact, he´s dressed as an officer of this Free French unit. It is 16.4″ x 11.6″
He also showed how he created it: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v82/Roberto67/Division%20Leclerc%20Willys%20MB%20jeep%20caricature/?albumview=slideshow

Jeep Comics
Here are the first three issues of Jeep Comics from 1944. As far as I can tell, only three issues were created with jeeps on the front (at least, I can’t find any others). You can these covers here: http://superitch.com/?p=14130

Vintage Ed Roth Decal eBay
I saw this tonight and it brought back lots of memories of bubblegum cards I used to collect that had similar “Rat Fink” illustrations. These were done by Ed Roth.
Here is another flatfender design I found on this website: http://timlehi.blogspot.com/2011/03/ed-roth-rat-fink.html
Wood Jeep from Etsy $375
UPDATE: I was a bit off on the price. The real price is $375 and shipping is $30 in the US.
I jumped onto Etsy today and did a ‘Willys’ search. One of the things I spotted was this neat little jeep.

Ted’s Glass Bottle Jeep Clock
A friend of Ted’s is an artist who creates clocks out of melted bottles. Ted asked him to make this unusual jeep clock. I’m sure Tom will make one for you if you are interested.
Tom writes, “For the most part the bottle bottom fold sup, if the bottom has an indent in the bottle, which is found on smaller bottles, it will melt straight down. The type used on Ted’s bottle basically comes out the same. The bottle can be mounted either horizontally or vertically. The vertical bottles have the neck wrapped so they can be hung. The clocks are battery operated. It takes 12 hours to melt one bottle and about 35% of them break while drilling the hole for the clock arms. The cost is generally $35 to $40 plus shipping and sales tax.”
Here is Tom’s bottle. Below that is an example of another clock.
Merlin’s Bantam BRC Paperweight
Merlin shared the unusual find with me today. There is picture of another one at the CJ-3B Page.
“This is a Bantam BRC Syrocowood paperweight. As far as we know these were given out by Bantam to officers testing the Bantam Jeeps. I found this one sitting in a local antique shop!”
=======================
After seeing this post, Josh forwarded me a picture of his syrocowood Bantam paperweight that includes an image of his tank syrocowood too. He wrote, “I’ve been collecting those bantam paperweights for years. They are syrocowood and should have a little sticker gold and black on the bottom that says ‘Made in the USA SYROCOWOOD SYRACUSE NY’. Here’s one of a pen holder I have, also I a few tanks; one of the tanks a pipe holder.”

50th Anniversary Model Richmond, BC, Canada
I have not seen another one of these. Anyone else.
“Rare plaster (?) cast model in great detail of a World War II army (military) jeep (Willys MB or Ford GPW) jeep in US service with two crewmen and piled high with kit and weapons. Very detailed! Commissioned by my friend, the late Roy Van Wicklin in Las Vegas, NV, USA. He owned 4WD by Van and was a World renowned jeep collector and reasearcher.
VERY detailed and accurate unlike some that have been produced by peoiple who do not know jeeps well. Sadly “Van” passed away last year. This is the ONLY one I have ever seen of this model.
Specdial for someone who has an MB or GPW or wishes they could afford the real thing.
4-3/4″ long.”
Tahiti-Pacifique Celebrates with a Jeep
Alex forward this image made by an artist friend of his, who also lives on the island of Moorea in French Polynesia, drew a picture of his jeep. It celebrates twenty-one years of Tahiti-Pacifique Magazine, of which Alex is the Director of Publishing and the Editor. Congrats on surviving two decades!
