Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. The tan body is a CJ-2A, but the frame it’s on is either a very late CJ-2A chassis or a CJ-3A chassis or later.

THE PREVIOUS OWNER DID A RE-WIRE WITH A “PAINLESS” JEEP SYSTEM THAT WAS FOR A NEW JEEP AND HASN’T BEEN PAINLESS. I HAVE ALL THE NECESSARY THINGS WORKING BUT THERE IS A LOT OF CIRCUITS LEFT IN CASE YOU’RE INTO STEREOS, LIGHTS ETC. IT HAS A NEW BATTERY BUT AFTER 3-4 DAYS IT DRAWS DOWN. I DON’T DO ELECTRIC STUFF SO GUESSING AN ALTERNATOR…BUT IT COULD BE SOMETHING REAL SIMPLE BASED ON WHAT I’VE SAID ALREADY ABOUT THE WIRING HARNESS. ALL THE GUAGES SEEM TO WORK EXCEPT THE GAS…HAVEN’T LOOKED INTO IT, AND MAYBE THAT’S SIMPLE TOO.
THE BACK SEAT IS A TOOL BOX SO YOU CAN RIDE 4 AND STILL HAUL THE NECESSARIES. I CAN ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS. I’VE OWNED IT SINCE LAST FALL, WORKED ON IT THROUGH THE WINTER AND GOT IT GOING ABOUT THE TIME COVED STARTED…SO IT HASN’T BEEN REGISTERED. IF I HANG ON TO IT MUCH LONGER I WILL BUT I’M NOT DRIVING IT EXCEPT TO KEEP IT WARMED UP AND RUNNING AROUND A MILE OR TWO OUT IN THE COUNTRY. “1946 Willys Jeep CJ2A, Sounds like the Jeeps on MASH. No title, Buyer Pick Up Only. Condition is Used. Jeep has about 1,700 mile on it since it was refurbished and has lived in California for most of its life. Runs strong and straight. No steering pulling and brakes well. I drove it about a hundred miles in the last week or so and put it into storage. Sometimes, in second gear, it will pop out of gear if are letting up on the gas. And, sometimes ‘grates’ when going into second – could be the operator, too. The battery is not getting charged for some reason. There is a small tear in the left cargo cushion. Tires look good but they are the same ones that were on it when I bought it 16 years ago. Has never been ‘off road’ or banged around. As is, where is. Buyer to arrange shipping and bears the cost. Great vehicle for The 4th of July. This is a very original Jeep. She always turns heads.”
