Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “1948 CJ2A with newer F head 4 cylinder motor 3 speed manual trans. LT225/75R16 BF Goodrich mud terrain tires with 90% tread on them. Soft top. Engine needs some work but does run.
An ad for a 1946 CJ-2A referenced the following article from the July issue of Automobile Magazine. I expect this will fill a variety of CJ-2A sellers with visions of value where there might not be any. They assign a value of $12,500 to $20,000 for a restored CJ-2A and $12,000 to $18,000 for a restored CJ-3A. What they neglect to mention is how difficult it is to find a properly restored 2A or 3A.
This appears solid and pretty stock.
“947 Jeep Willys with a snow plow. Runs good, drives good, snow plow works well. Snow plow powered by Chrysler power steering pump. Jeep has new plugs, wires, cap, rotor button, condenser, and points. Jeep also has new fuel pump. Jeep has new 6 volt battery but will not hold a charge. The top on the Jeep was replaced 4 years ago.(some seams are split overall top in fair condition). This Jeep is mechanically solid, I have plowed snow for the last 3 years with this Jeep at my home and for others in the neighborhood. The process to obtain a title has been initiated through the Colorado DMV. The title is clear. For this process to continue in Colorado, all lights have to be operational on the vehicle. The wiring is 60+ years old. In my opinion, it needs a complete new wiring harness. (Complete new wiring harness available at Kaiser Jeep Willys for $314). In addition to the Jeep, I also have 2 brand-new Firestone 6X16 military tread tires and 2 brand-new sets of military-issued tire chains. Snow plow has recently been painted and upgraded to all quick-release pins and all brand-new hydraulic hoses.

“This is a 1946 Willys Jeep model CJ2A Universal. The body is very solid although it has had some patches done some time in its life. Drive it as is, or would make an easy restoration to factory original. It runs great and all the running gear works great. It does, however need brake work, electrical work, radiator service and some other misc. stuff. Currently registered in my name with transferable ownership available immediately. This Jeep is NOT ready for the road just yet, but it wouldn’t take much.”

“All original with the exception of the top, rear gas can holder etc… I added alot of extras to make it appear to be a WWII MB. It has 23671 miles on it. It has warn lock out front hubs, a warn overdrive, a period correct heater. It has been coverted to 12 volt. There is no rust anywhere except a little in the tool box. All five tires are brand new Firestone 7.00×16 NDCC. There is also a trailer to haul the jeep, it has surge brakes and ramps. Email me for more info. (02/15/2013) Walter forwarded this CJ-2A. The seller says he has the arctic top, but it isn’t attached. I’m wondering if the pics are prior to the work that was done. It doesn’t have a title.
“I have a early 40s Willys Jeep, 4 cylinder runs good, looks to be rebuilt before I got it, 4 wheel works, body rusty but pretty solid, has anew gas tank, I think its a M38 Military type. Over drive, low gears, power steering, winch, 33 Inch tires with spare and chrome rims, needs the head gasket replaced because the machine shop gave me the wrong one. I just need to pick it up and put it on.”

Runs and drives.
“This is a 46 Willys CJ 2A. It runs and drives. 4 cyl motor was rebuilt a few years ago. New fuel tank. New radiator. Usual tranny issue with these trannys is third gear only works sometimes. These trannys area a dime a dozen. T-case works as does the 4X4. Runs great. Converted to 12 V. Water temp, oil pressure,fuel gauge and speedometer work. Full rollbar and bikini top. Seats are a little rough looking but they are comfortable. Rear seat is a fold and tumble seat. Has seat belts. Body is in decent shape for a 1946. No major rust that cant be fixed or leave it alone and drive it. Ready to take deer hunting. Why buy a Rhino when you can buy this for. 1/3 of the price. The tow bar is working an ready to tow. Have title. Currently non- oped. Come take a look and drive it. $2,700OBO. Located in Loomis”
The seller lists this as having a 1945 title and matching VIN plate, but I don’t see any evidence it was a 1945. There’s been some repairs near the drain hole areas. The front frame rail on the driver’s side appears patched.

Real warm interior in the winter. Someone Bubba’d the frame horns some with a plow mount but still solid.
