Importantly, the allure of buying a project jeep can be romantic. The reality of restoring a jeep can be quite different, expensive and overwhelming without the right tools and resources. “I have 1948 Willy’s jeep for sale or trade it’s a project but the engine turns over starts on starting fluid . Needs a new gas tank and a new battery that’s all that I know that is wrong with it . This is supposed to be Ward Canaday’s jeep. It does appear to have some rust.
“This is Ward Canaday’s Jeep. He was President of Willys/Overland during WWII and considered the Father of the Jeep. It’s a mostly original unmolested 1953 CJ3A wich runs great. It’s still runs on the 6 volt system and I’ve replaced the windshield, muffler and rebuilt the carb.”

(10/11/2022) This jeep came out of the Fresno, California, area and has been for sale previously. It’s got a Muller top, expanded windshield, and doors similar to some other California-jeeps from that region. One thing I hadn’t noticed was that the generator has a power steering pump mounted behind it. Is that out of some vehicle? It seems like a handy setup.

It has the L134 engine, PTO and a gear box belt drive on back to run farm equipment (it’s a rare farm truck only a handful still exsists). Bill spotted this refurbed jeep listed as a 1948 CJ-3A. It looks in good shape for the price. The engine has a 3A/M-38/DJ-3A oil filter holder, so either the year or the model is incorrect.

This is a mix of parts, including a DJ-3A body, a CJ-2A windshield and an M-38 grille. The chassis might be DJ-3A as well.

Listed as a 3B, this looks to be a CJ-3A with some mods. This is likely still a project.
“It’s a 1950 Willy’s . Has a hurricane motor in it . Changed to electronic distributor , has 12 volt battery . Needs the new alternator for 12volt. Needs new driver side door plan welded in . Motor runs . Front and rear diffs are welded . Carb has been rebuilt. New water pump , new coil , fully gone through brakes.”

“1953 Jeep Willys CJ3A. Complete, as in all parts are here. Engine in jeep had a knock and is partially disassembled. Comes with inspected and tested replacement. We bought it as a project but others have since taken precedence. It’s a 70 year old Jeep and has sat for quite some time. It’s not perfect but would be a great restoration project. Have title.
