The kids are in town for Christmas, so updates will be intermittent.
My sister forwarded this picture of her chickens celebrating the holidays.

Chuck wrote me yesterday to share his good looking 1951 CJ-3A. He bought it last summer off of eWillys, choosing a 1951 jeep because that was the year he was born. The body, home built by the previous owner, is made from 3/16th steel. Chuck is currently rebuilding a Koenig hard top for it.
Chuck, thanks for sharing the pics. I look forward to seeing the top when you finish it!
This odd photograph shows guys with their guns o a CJ-2A.
“Operation: May 1964
Location: United States
Specialty: Young gun loving American male hunters with their trusty shot guns and classic Willys Jeep CJ5.
Identification: Date stamp along the border of the image.
Image Type & Dimensions: Single-Weight ~ Gelatin Silver ~ Color ~ 3.5″ x 3.5″
Condition: Very Good: Some discoloration on the reverse side with minor edge and corner wear.”
The holiday spirit seems to have overtaken Lawrence and his 1929 Willys Overland Whippet. Lawrence hails from West Vancouver, BC, Canada. I guess they take the holidays pretty seriously up there. This picture shows them getting ready to deliver Christmas eve presents in style. And here, I thought he got the Whippet all dressed up just to land at the top of eWillys! Lawrence is also the soon-to-be owner of FC-150.
I stumbled across this book written by French Author Joe Ceurvorst based on a trip in 1956. I have found two different covers for it (shown below). Most copies seem to be in the UK. The author was traveling around Africa about the same time as Dorothy and Louise.
Apparently, the writers of the Catholic Herald weren’t uber fans of the book. Their review, in full, from March 9th, 1956, goes like this:
It may seem virtually impossible today to find real adventure, the French author of this book found it by irresponsibly taking an old liberation jeep, with a single passenger and a dog, on a round-African trip from Algiers to the Gulf of Guinea, thence to Lake Victoria, and back to Tunis via Cairo.
Our surprise, however, at his still being alive is greater than at the revelations of his story. It was worth writing, but the account is superficial. Good reading, perhaps. for a dull and oversafe train journey.
Abe Books has copies of this book

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay
The seller claims these were used for stamping Willys, MBs, Dodge during WWII. I don’t know if that is true or not, but it is a neat kit.
“Found in estate sale, ww2 military metal stamping kit, all the numbers and letters are there with extra stamping tool. look at my other action for moor military items, thank you”
I would imagine this is an early Howe brochure.
“This auction is for a rare vintage dealer brochure for the CJ2A fire jeep conversion. Was from Cutler Motors in Mora MN. The brochure comes with a matching envelope.”
Here’s a hard to find manual.
“This 56 page Owners Manual is in excellent shape. some black marks on outside of back cover. Inside perfect! From my personal collection of 47 years.”
I have a few more updates to do, but the Internet has
ceased functioning for the time being, so I am going to bed.
However, I thought I would share my find-of-the-day with you. It is
a jeep light/lamp that I found at a local good will. I put a hot
wheel on top for comparison.
Here’s a bonus pic of the week from Craig. This crazy was of stoking a fire is from the August 1956 Issue of Willys News.
Walter spotted this nice looking soap box derby jeep on ebay in Germany

These are a set of instructions and the schematics to build a SEEP (GPA).
“Vintage 1940s era 1/2 inch scale model of the U.S. Army Amphibian Jeep or Quack, produced by MOD-AC Manufacturing Company of Los Angeles. Included in the auction are two remaining pieces of the Jeep’s original die cut cards – nothing else remains from the set. Found in an old box of model pieces, the schematics / assembly instructions for this stood out as frameable art, especially for the lover of short-run Jeeps. The assembly instructions are printed only on one side – what you see is what you get. The cards measure about 8-1/2″ long, the instructions, about 15-1/2″ wide and 10-1/2″ tall. The instructions have been folded for almost 70 years, and have no stains or major rips, but there are some pin-size holes and a little damage in one area to the paper, probably from handling or from insects.”
Here’s evidence that Barbie wasn’t the only one with a Jeep!
“VINTAGE REMCO POCKETBOOK DOLLS

“Vintage New York Arnold Jeep Willys MB Tin Toy
Rare Original US. Export Model

The wire remote control is perfect working, forward-reverse-left-right.
Please look at the photos and zoom for condition details.”
For his Pic of the Week, Craig forwarded this unusual train built on a jeep platform that was featured in a 1964 issue of Jeep News.
I found an example of the above train-jeep being used at Africa, USA, though the details were slightly different. These pictures come from cardcow.com.
I’m wondering if this jeep train out of St. Augustine, FL, isn’t a custom version of the above platform. You can see the older St. Augustine Jeep Trains here.
This is a neat combo.
“UP FOR AUCTION, A SWEEEEEEET USED MATCHBOX … no.36 JEEP WITH GLIDING CLUB TRAILER, & GLIDER PLANE, MADE IN ENGLAND, BY LESNEY 1976… THIS IS A VERY COOL JEEP AND TRAILER, IT COMES WITH A GLIDER PLANE YOU PUT TOGETHER, AND IT ALL FITS IN THE WAY COOL TRAILER.. This one is missing some parts. Here’s a more complete example, from old toys.com.
“Vintage Holgate wooden Jeep up for Auction. Has all wheels including the spare on the back. (09/30/2012) I imagine there aren’t too many of these matchbook covers left. The colors sure are bright.

Buz unearthed these two jeep related photos in the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum online collection.
1) Mascot of 4026th Army Signal Photographic Battalion Sits in Jeep
A monkey named “Lady” who was the mascot of the 4026th Army Signal Photographic Battalion, sits in a jeep, somewhere in the Philppines. Donor: John Paxton.
2) Secretary Pace Talks with People in a Jeep
This photo was taken circa 1952. There isn’t a description. It is one of the nicer Military Police Jeeps I’ve seen. The door is particularly unusual.
Written by Carolyn London in 1957, The Adventures of Mr. Jeeponary: The Autobiography of a Jeep Truck is a missionary story for boys and girls. It appears someone released a new version in 2011. Used paper back versions from Alibris and Amazon range in the $10 and under range. The new version is in the $40 range on eBay.
Another version:
Apparently, Toy King Louis Marx not only made toy jeeps, but also owned a jeep he used to cut his lawn. In this unusual home video being auctioned on eBay, it apparently shows him driving a Lefty CJ-2A with some kind of mower or cutter behind it.
“We are proud to offer:
“The Marx of History” a home birthday movie made for toymaker Louis Marx by his family in 1953.
This lot consists of :
One 16mm film on to 2 rolls
Run time: circa one hour
Type: black and white, silent
Recently found in the archives of Academy Award winning producer Jerry Fairbanks one 16mm home movie for the 1953 birthday of Toy King Louis Marx. This black and white silent work print of the Hollywood producer appears to be the only surviving copy of this 1953 film.
The film is in good condition with moderate signs of use.
By all appearance mostly filmed on the grounds of the Scarsdale Estate and Mansion, this film shows the luxurious life style enjoyed by the family of the at the time largest Toymaker in the World.
This film was put together by his family as a birthday gift to Louis Marx on the occasion of his 57 birthday in 1953.”
UPDATE: **SOLD** Was on eBay.
We can add Bear Lake County, Idaho, to the list of Jeep Patrol or Jeep Posse groups.
“Vintage Bear Lake County Idaho Sheriff’s Jeep Patrol Patch
This is a vintage Bear Lake County, Idaho Sheriff’s Jeep Patrol Patch. The patch measures 4 3/8 inches in height by 3 5/8 inches in width. The patch is unused, shows medium wear and is in good condition.
Shipping is $.80 Will combine shipping with other items.”
Below is one of Robert’s holiday cards. You can see all his holiday cards here and check out other items by him at zazzle.com.
Roberto forwarded this link that appears to show the rebuilding of a wrecked M-151A2. My vietnamese is pretty weak (ok, non existent), so I have no idea what the thread’s text says.
Before the rebuild:
