Merlin spotted this oddity; I hope Irma didn’t sweep it away. Some folks on Facebook immediately dismissed it, but I think it was pretty well executed for what it is. The VW hood even mates up with the truck cowl pretty well. We’ve seen much worse….

“Very different and one of a kind rat rod. Built on a 1969 VW Beetle chassis with a 1972 dual port 1600 motor. 1960 Willys truck cab and title. Motor is fresh, completely new brake system, new tires, nice looking rims. Needs wiring to be completed. I have lost interest, too many other projects.”

Five Piccolino Protypes and More for Sale

• CATEGORIES: Advertising & Brochures, Features, Unusual This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

In 2013, I posted the brochure below with note explaining that there wasn’t much known about these mini jeep-looking vehicles. Yesterday, Peter Furrer sent me an email yesterday explaining that he was the developer of the Piccolino and that his five prototypes and everything else related to them are for sale. He’ll only sell them as a package. His price is $100,000. If he can’t sell them by the fall, he plans on auctioning them.

1987-imc-piccolino-brochure1

Peter grew up in Switzerland. During his time in the Swiss Army in the 1950s, there were thousands of them. After completing his one year service, in 1958 Peter joined a crew of a filming expedition-team that went from Sao Paulo to the Amazon with 5 Jeeps and trailers. It took them 9 month to film the landscapes, animals and indios, people who had never seen white men before. Later, Peter became a commercial flight captain and did well as real estate broker.

In 1986, Japanese cars became very popular in Switzerland. There smaller size made navigating Switzerland’s narrow street easier. About then Peter’s love of Jeeps returned, but then he had a brainstorm. He decided to make half sized jeep-like vehicles to make parking frontside to sidewalks possible. Engineers in Paris, Switzerland and Italy designed the Piccolino to his specifications. In 1987, he showed them at the Geneva car-show, creating great interest with hundreds of reservations and dozens of dealer applications.

All he needed was the money to start mass production. In his search for money, a Thai businessman paid the airfreight to bring the 5 Piccolinos to the Bangkok car show. Again hundreds wanted to buy, but this time a military coup with tanks in the streets ended the effort and relations.

A Miami boat-show with 5 Piccolinos ended with TV coverage and in golf courses, as this would have been the only golf cart with street license. He feels they would have been great for golf-comunities.

In Detroit, he made it to the first floor of Lee Iacoca CEO building, but Lee would not see him. Later, his lawyers warned him never to call my Piccolino a Jeep!

Peter is now 81 and feels it is time to give up on his dream cars that he has cherished now for 20 years. He Will only sell them all together. He also hopes someone will donate a Piccolino to me, a very generous offer that I would readily accept, but certainly not necessary. If anyone has interest in this, feel free to privately email at d@ewillys.com and I’ll put you in touch with Peter.

Delaware Aqueduct CJ-5 From 1957

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images, Unusual This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

Paul spotted this photo of a CJ-5 used to navigate the length of the 85-mile Delaware Aqueduct in 1957, still the longest tunnel in the world (construction photos). This was the last time the tunnel was navigate in its entirety. Because of the knowledge gained during their survey, the last living member of this party, Victor Feigelman, was consulted on the state of the tunnel up until his death in 2016.

If you zoom into the area just above gas inlet you’ll note the warning: USE WHITE GAS –ONLY–. The need to limit effluents inside the tunnel also explains the odd exhaust setup.

From Wikipedia, the Delaware Aqueduct … takes water from the Rondout Reservoir through the Chelsea Pump Station, the West Branch Reservoir, and the Kensico Reservoir, ending at the Hillview Reservoir in Yonkers, New York. The aqueduct was constructed between 1939 and 1945, and carries approximately half of the New York City water supply of 1.3 billion US gallons (4,900,000 m3) per day. At 85 miles (137 km) long and 13.5 feet (4.1 m) wide, the Delaware Aqueduct is the world’s longest tunnel.

1946 CJ-2A/1959 Anglia Escort — St. Joseph, MN $2500

Something a little different.

“1948 willys stock drivetrain with a 1959 Anglia escort body. Car sat for a very long time. Story is two long for this listing but could tell it if need be. It needs lots of tlc. It runs and drives and has great potential for someone with time money and a place to work on it as it is still a project. put in plugs, pts, cap, rotor, new master cylinder, some tires and wheels. Wheels are original 16″ jeep wheels. Brakes need adj, some wiring. Body is good. Wheel wells flaired but no rust after 25 years. Would consider trade for MG. I need more of a practical driver as I have no extra cash to speed up the project. Please text or call Jeff ”

Buffalo Turbine Sprayer/Duster

• CATEGORIES: Features, Parts, Unusual This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Tim wrote me to say he’d found some of these sitting unused outside his place of employment. Unfortunately, there was too little left of them or they were too far gone to restore. The ones they had were powered by Wisconsin air-cooled V4 engines. They also had stainless steel tanks for liquid usage. He was able to take photos of  a complete one before they disassembled it. The company that made that sprayer still exists. http://buffaloturbine.com/ The sprayers look very similar too.

The Mystery Jeep Utility Body

• CATEGORIES: Body Parts, Features, Fire/Police/Industry Vehicles, Unusual This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: Ted got a hold of this a few years ago. No one seems to know who modified or for what purpose. Now he wants to let it go. If interested, email him at willysted@charter.net.

He wrote, “I was lucky enough to a be in the right place at the right time and have some interesting items to trade towards purchasing this really unique Willys body. Not really sure on origin or history on this oddball as it came from a buddy of mine who also didnt have much history on it, but I knew it was really cool and thought it would be the ultimate foundation for a great Yard -plow Jeep.

I thought it would be a great Jeep to have all your tools, torches, jacks, etc etc in to minimize walks back to the garage to get something while working on stuff out in the woods or yard. I was going to start with a good rolling and running 2a frame and make it mechanically sound and mount a Plow or Snow Scoop on front with a rear mounted PTO winch hoisting Boom on back of Jeep for a great little Utility Jeep.

Unfortunately my unfinished projects and Jeeps that need attention have got me forced to part with some of my future projects that Im never gonna have time for. This Body is very unique and definitely deserves to be restored and put to use somewhere. I think with a good rolling and running 2a or 3a frame and some work it would be a great Winter project for someone looking for a cool Willys build. My loss is going to be someones gain.

Make me an offer !!! Email any questions and I will try to help

Hunting Jeep Houston, TX **SOLD**

• CATEGORIES: CJ5, M-38A1, Unusual, Willys Trucks • TAGS: , This site contains affiliate links for which I may be compensated.

UPDATE: **SOLD** Was $1000.

I love this funky jeep. Looks to have started life as a CJ-5 or M-38A1. Then, someone with a welder and torch got a hold of it. Just bring it back to life and keep as is. It’s a great conversation piece of nothing else.

“I have for sale a jeep that I have used at my hunting lease. It is a tough vehicle that is entirely metal. It has both high and low 4 wheel drive and a hoist on the back. It has some slop in the transmission that can be fixed with adjustment of the yoke in the three speed on the floor. It has a Ford Falcon engine. It has been sitting in my barn but it was running when I drove there. Tires are good and the fuel tank is a new tank that I have in the rear cargo area. I replaced the carburetor a few years back and runs fine. Will make a great jeep for a hunting lease or just to drive around a ranch. There is no title and I don’t know what year model or make it is! I am told that this is a form military jeep but I don’t know what era it is from.”
