Woodedn Jeep Toy Coquitlam, B.C., Canada $300

• CATEGORIES: Features, Models, toys

Blaine spotted an unusual toy on Craigslist. Anyone recognize this wooden jeep? It seems to be missing the steering wheel and a windshield. It’s probably a one-off, but figured I’d check.

“Jeep from war 1940s ? – all wood – great collectible -”

1948 Photo of MB/GPW at Cape Hattaras

• CATEGORIES: Features, Old Images

This photo was taken August 8, 1948, at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. It was posted to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore Facebook page. According to the post, “On August 8, 1948 flags flew from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, as the United States Coast Guard celebrated the 158th anniversary of its founding. Governor R. Gregg Cherry flew in by helicopter and spoke at the celebration, which also included Coast Guard apparatus demonstrations and a mammoth fish fry.”

The jeep looks to be an MB or GPW with a custom top accented by sliding doors. It’s a pretty nice setup.

Image Comparing Rear Seats & DJ-3A Seats

• CATEGORIES: Features

I was nearly done assembling this post (a post I started when I spotted the useful seat comparison image below) when I discovered that Derek already has a pretty complete post (and frankly better than mine was going to be) on the topic of rear seats (and was the actual source of the seat comparison).

But, there were still a few unanswered questions I had after reading his page, so I deleted what I had and reframed it as shown below.

I realized:
1) I didn’t know if the DJ-3A used the CJ-5 rear seat, the CJ-3A/CJ-3B rear seat or something else?

2) And, did the Surrey have it’s own rear seat or the same as the DJ-3A? (My guess, based on the pics above, and Bruce’s pics below, is that the DJ-3As and Surreys used the 3A/3B seat)

Below are photos of Bruce Agan’s DJ-3A restored back seat:

dj3a-back-seat-bruce-agan1 dj3a-rear-seat-mounts-bruce-agan

While my DJ-3A came with a rear seat, it was actually one of the folding rear seats from an M-38 or M-38A1, a topic covered in these two links:

Here’s a pic of my 1956 DJ-3A with the rear seat that was in it. While no the correct seat, it fit in there pretty well:

“This little jeep has been great for my family over the years. We have primarily used it around our property, collecting firewood and doing other chores for the last decade. I purchased this vehicle from the original owner who bought it from a dealer in Glenwood Springs, CO. This is an original Colorado vehicle that runs and drives good. It can be used “as is” around your property or is a great start for a restoration project.

We have recently moved to town out of the mountains. As much as we want to keep this little jeep, we have limited storage and no longer have a use for it. We are asking $4,800.00. Clean, clear title in hand. Please email, text or call James with any questions or schedule a time to see it.”

1957 DJ-3A Orlando, FL No Price

This nice looking DJ-3A has a few mods, such as the wrong tailgate, incorrect turn lights. extra rear bumper, extra gauges and some changes within the engine compartment. The history listed isn’t quite right either.

“The Willys Jeep Truck is a truck made by Willys-Overland Motors from 1947 to 1965. The styling and engineering of the Jeep Truck was based on Willys’ existing vehicles, the Willys Jeep Station Wagon and the Jeep CJ-2A. The DJ-3A was introduced in 1955. It used the body style of the older CJ-3A, along with the L-134 engine. Unlike the CJ-3A, it came with either a column shift or floor shift three-speed Borg-Warner T-96 manual transmission. 1961 Parkway Conversion Wagon Eatonville, WA $5000

• CATEGORIES: Willys Wagons • TAGS: .

The seller has done some research, discovering that this started life as a 2×4 for the Navy, but was then was refitted to be a 4×4 for the Forest Service (perhaps the Parkway Conversion was also implemented at that time?) .

“1961 Willys wagon 4×4. 4 speed with a Chevy small block. Vehicle has been stored under cover for the last 5 years until recently. There is some rust shown in the pictures. Hasn’t ran in 3 years and the rear brake line is bad. Does come with a tow bar and lights. Here’s a little back story on the wagon. Researching the serial number from Kaiser/Willys website this was a 2wd drive naval personnel carrier that was built at the end of the Korean War but never left the factory.

The government had Kaiser repurpose it for the forest service they transferred the body to a 4×4 chassis and sent it the forest service in Leavenworth Wa. I purchased it from the grandson of the man who bought it from the forest service. The original engine failed and was swapped out some time in the the mid 80’s. I don’t really want to sell but the wife wants a new house. Open to offers. Please don’t make a low offer I won’t be giving it away :-)”
